The best managers are more than just controllers, delegators, or administrators. Managers focus on structure and processes, while creating a willing workers environment for their staff members. Spending time developing people and leading by examples are important traits for a good manager. As a leader and manager you should always treat employees with respect and honesty; positioning employees for success creating learning opportunities and additional responsibilities. Good managers have a strong operation, that produce and delivers a product or services in a effective manner. Early in my career I was fortunate enough to become a Project Manager (3 divisions, 28+ employees, and 2 shifts) being not place in this role with very little experience nor understanding the general needs of employees. Let’s just say things went south very fast and from that experience I formed this as my Management Mission Statement. “My mission is to create a productive environment while developing my employees through empowerment, and keeping an efficient operation that gives quality service to our customers.”
As a manager one must always commit to learning, a lot of its on-the-job experiences by observing and interacting with others. One thing I learned from my first manager position is to hire base off skills and character, and not who other things like who you know through family, neighborhood, etc… Hiring people like this made it difficult to with discipline and perception of thinking
In the world today, there are leaders everywhere such as Parents, Pastors, The President, CEO of Companies, Supervisors and World leaders just to name a few, these individuals can be good or bad, for you or against you. A leader is a person that sees things through in order to make change either in the mental growing aspect of one’s life, the economics of the world, or spiritual belief. The characteristics of a good leader are the leaders’ ability to inspire others willingness to leader and integrity.
I believe, that this class’ DQs were design to outline and gives some insides of useful skills and attributes of an effective manager. From these excises, I learned that an effective manager takes responsibility for ensuring that each individual within his department succeeds and that the team or business unit achieves results.
As we continue to learn about leadership, we continue to see the importance of having certain qualities. There are differing opinions on what traits hold more importance than others, but in the end, each quality plays a specific role in forming an excellent leader. Three qualities that preform a role in the equation, and that needs strengthened in my own leadership skills, are enthusiasm, persistence and charisma.
Someday, I have no idea when I will go into a position of leadership. Thinking about this I will have to decide what key characteristics I should imply to help my group, but another thing I would have to think about is how I would be perceived by my fellow people whom I shall be leading.
Managers are expected to be a leader and keep the team excited in work and keep a good attitude. We want managers to have leadership skills that are similar to ways Christ would act. They must have the ambition to push the company to be more successful and the managers must be well aware of organizations to donate forty percent of the profits too. Patient is an important value the managers must have. They must train the new employees and this will require
Good leaders will collaborate well with other people. They get along with others in productive and positive ways. To get things done, collaboration is important. Someone who can work well with others has a good trait for leadership because he/she can bring people together and accomplish goals. Effective communication is a key part of collaborating, and a good leader knows how to communicate to different types of people in different situations making them an exceptional collaborator.
There are several characteristics that successful leaders are considered to have. Most theories on leadership state that such traits refer to integrity, self esteem, confidence, empathy, organizational skills, good judgment, initiative, courage, endurance, they are proactive, they have visionary skills, communication skills, and others. There are numerous combinations of skills that characterize the great leaders of the world.
You don’t have to be manager material but have a mindset that one day you will become a master manager. Encouraging employees to be trained and moved in different departments constantly to broaden their opportunities to be knowledgeable in all areas. Offering opportunities for employees to express ideas to help run business smoothly and actually incorporating them within those job duties. Encouraging team work by letting employees resolve minor issues without the assistance of management as long as they are aware of the problem. This lets employees come together and problem solve giving them somewhat of authority. If an employee doesn’t agree with a manager or supervisor, encourage employees to speak up and fear no one. Always keep a professional demeanor and proper voice tone when bring up matters. We all are human and make mistakes and as a manager, we may see things differently from employees in which they may offer great advice so be open and honest.
Organizational Behavior incorporates all types of philosophies, trained and learned processes. Another aspect I believe that helped and will help me to be a successful manager is the ability to create vision. I am not just thinking about myself when it comes to creating a vision, but also the team members that I will be working with or the staff that will support me. Usually with all tasks there is an objective that we must reach to be successful. Managers have to be able to get themselves and those who work for them to see where they are going. The manager, or as in the case of me being in the Army, the leader has to provide the leadership that provides the direction, focus, and motivation to get the team members to see where he is trying to get them to is worth it. The team members have to see the vision the leader is attempting to get them to accept. Once the team members believe in the leaders’ ability to get them to the final objective, successfully, they too will begin to have the ability to create vision, accept the direction and obtain
We live in a world where communication is easier than ever, yet face-to-face conversations tend to be difficult to maintain. Interaction is becoming increasingly digitalised, with most of us rather sending an e-mail then arranging a meeting. But one management method challenges our communication strategies by calling for deeper integration of actual conversations into the workplace. Management by walking around has been around for a while, but what is the strategy about? We’ll explore the history and the concept behind this management theory. Before providing you tips on how to best utilise the method, we’ll look into the strengths and weaknesses of it as well.
Ultimately, leadership means different things to different people. Fundamentally, leadership is inspiration to encourage change in a positive and meaningful way. Typically, a good leader will possess: ambition and drive that causes others to want to follow; a positive attitude during the good and bad times; a keen sense of people, their skills, desires, and abilities; a prime example of cooperation, trust, and openness; and the highest of moral character (Taylor, 2014). Truly, there are three key qualities of an effective leader in this day and age, which are integrity, job knowledge, and people-building skills (Manning & Curtis, 2012).
I have had a total of 6 managers over the course of 21 years. By now I have a very solid idea of which qualities a good manager should possess. I have run from one extreme to the other, my worst manager was fired for stealing, and my best manager has been promoted 4 times since I last worked there, and is an outstanding asset to the company.
