Obesity in adults and children is at out of control. Obesity is a huge social problem. We are living in the age of modern living. We are spoiled with superior technology, luxury, excessive money and we are trending toward obesity. The growing number of cases of obesity has made it a social problem. Childhood obesity is also on the rise. Many are wondering what could cause this. Obese children and adults are often made fun of, ridiculed and treated cruelly by other children. Obese children grow up to have low self-esteem and complacency. Obesity in adults/children faces social apathy. Our changing life style has brought us to a world where food is fast and has high fat content. Lack of movement and the sedentary life style has contributed
Obesity is becoming a major problem due to many causes and because of that people are struggling with obesity these days. Obesity in America is one of the major public health concern right now. Especially when Fast food now is increasing in bad way and it’s easily these days to find fast food near you or away from you. Things is different right with all these changes been made to our society. The good side of that change comes with the bad side. The problem is people are inventing technology that makes the life easier and make the person lazier, such as the computers, tablets and etc. Lacks of healthy lifestyle, people are changing healthy diet with unhealthy ones, and Obesity affects our health by having disease,
Since the 1980’s obesity rates have soared. Between 1980 and 2000, obesity rates doubled between adults and children. Twelve years later in 2012, the Center of Disease Control and Prevention estimated more than one third of children and adolescents are overweight or obese. Being overweight is defined as having excess body weight from a combination of height, fat, and muscle. On the other hand, Obesity is simply having too much excess body fat. Being overweight and obese are the result of caloric imbalance. Society tends to consume more calories than calories expended. Obesity can lead to more serious medical issues such as diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and even cancer. I believe that there are many causes of obesity, but there are just as much solutions for a healthier life.
Childhood Obesity is becoming More Significant and leading to More Adult Obesity and Health Problems
Obesity in the United States is at an all time high and will continue to rise. Adults aren’t the only one’s getting fat. The outbreak is now spreading to children at an alarming rate. Today I will give you three main point concerning obesity. For my first point I will tell you how big of crisis obesity has become in America. My second point explains what some of the major causes of obesity are and my third point is about the major risk factors of being obese.
There are even risk that are associated with child obesity. Teens and children that are obese have a higher chance at getting heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes. They also will suffer from other things that are not medical related. Teens that are obese tend to have very low self-esteem and can suffer from depression and anxiety.
If current adolescent obesity rates continue, predictions say by 2035 there will be more than 100,000 additional cases of heart disease linked to obesity (Collins 1). Childhood obesity has become more of an epidemic over the last few years. Although there are debates of childhood obesity being a problem, several factors contribute to childhood obesity such as parental feeding styles and fast food, nonetheless, which can all be prevented.
How many obese individuals do you see a day on the street? How do you think if overweight consider be a petty group as our future social norm? There are many serious health issues in our society. Today, obesity is one of the most popular diseases in America. Being overweight is usually a warning sign that people could be on their way to becoming obesity. According to Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention report, the most recent national data shows more than 35 percentage of America adult population was obese in 2009–2010. Overall, adults aged 60 and over were more likely to be obese than younger adults. However, there has been no change in obesity prevalence in recent years and over the last decade there has been a significant increase in obesity prevalence among men and boys but not among women and girls. (Hyattsville, MD. 2012) This Statistics reveals that we should raise public awareness of obesity and we should stop being obesity because obesity is a critical risk to affecting public health problem. However, obesity is a linking with physical, mental, and social as an amount of negative health issues to damage our life.
Child obesity affects 30% of the children, nearly three times what it was fifty-two years ago. Obese children are more likely to have health problems that were once only adult concerns. These include type 2 diabetes, asthma, Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD; can cause liver damage), hypertension, and high cholesterol, as well as other health concerns. Kids who are obese are more likely to be obese as adults. Childhood obesity is also linked to both higher and earlier death rates in adults.
In addition to the adverse health effects obese children are also more likely to face emotional and psychological problems because of social stigmas and discrimination they may face from their peers, and maybe even their own family. This can lead to a high occurrence of low self-esteem and depression in such children (Braet, 1997).
Childhood obesity in America is at the height of its peak. Actions should be taken to ensure that kids maintain a healthy weight to prevent them from developing health problems in the future. If a solution is not set into place, then this problem will only get worse and worse each and every year. The first solution I will suggest is that we bring back physical education within schools. The second solution I propose is that we regulate fast-food commercials on any form of media that children are able to see. The first solution that I introduced, which is bringing back physical education within the school system is better the better of the two options, because of the cost to implement it, the number of children served, and the effectiveness of this particular solution.
In the article of “Childhood Obesity”, Han, Lawlor and Kimm talk about the causes that cause childhood obesity, prevention of childhood obesity and treatment of it. The recent studies showed us the causes of childhood obesity by the understanding of the genetics and physiology of appetite control. The genetics of children have Instrumental in causing this disease, whereas the enzymes of children could not oxidize or digest the food completely or it takes along time to be digested, however, the fats accumulate in the child's body easily. The authors support their main point by a table that has information about the biology causes and habits relates to childhood obesity, such as sleeping and television viewing, according to Han, Lawlor
Childhood Obesity in America is a growing disease that has become an epidemic that has lasting psychological effects because of advertisement of fast food, lack of physical activities, and parental control has made food become a major health issue in many young teenagers lives’ today. Obesity in children is an ongoing concern which many people have to deal with. Obesity is the condition of being overweight. It affects about 12.7 million children and adolescents (“Ebbeling”). Your weight is the result of many things working together-the choices you make, your environment, your metabolism, and your genes.
Obesity is considered to be the significant health problem in the United States affecting children and adults. It occurs when a child is well above the normal or healthy weight for his or her age and height. The main causes of excess weight in youth are similar to those in adults, including individual causes such as behavior and genetics. Different behaviors include dietary patterns, medication use, physical inactivity, and other exposures. Additional contributing factors in society include the food and physical activity environment, education and skills, and food marketing and promotion. Childhood obesity is a significant health problem in the United States. Although there was slight decrease in the rate of prevalence among preschool-aged children, obesity among children is still high. For children and adolescents aged 2-19 years, the prevalence of obesity has remained fairly stable at about 17% and affects about 12.7 million children and adolescents for the past decade (Ogden, Carroll, Kit & Flegal, 2014). Approximately 17% (or 12.7 million) of children and adolescents aged from 2 to 19 years are obese (Ogden, Carroll, Kit & Flegal, 2014). The prevalence of obesity among children aged 2 to 5 years decreased significantly from 13.9% in 2003-2004 to 8.4% in 2011-2012 (Ogden, Carroll, Kit & Flegal, 2014). In 2011-2012, the prevalence among children and adolescents was higher among Hispanics (22.4%) and non-Hispanic blacks (20.2%) than among non-Hispanic whites (14.1%)(Ogden,
The causes of obesity in children, and adults for that matter, is relatively straight forward children are taking in more calories than they are burning throughout the day, but this is something that can be resolved. Eating an appropriate amount of healthy foods and exercising daily seems like a simple solution, but as a society we have become obsessed with eating sugary, fatty, and calorie latent foods. As if the extra calories were not enough of a problem, we have also decreased the amount of physical activities we get each day. The increase in the obesity rate in children is a direct consequence of these unhealthy habits, children are being allowed to eat unhealthy food in large quantities and are remaining sedentary for the majority of
Obesity has caused great dilemma in America. It was known as an adult disease. “Over two thirds of adults are over weight or obese.”(Obesity, Jerry R Ballenttne) these numbers are increasing rapidly. Obesity is not just a appearance
