Disney films and fairytale stories tend to be cliché for the most part; a young woman falls in love with a charming man and finds her happy ending. Usually, the young woman is helpless without a man and finding him will only rescue her from misery. The woman usually comes from a middle-class family and by marrying a Prince, she becomes rich and carefree. The majority of Disney’s Princess Fairytales, including Cinderella; portray gender stereotypes and the division between middle and upper class.

In the film, Cinderella lives with her step mother and two step-sisters; they appear to be middle class because they live very well. Yet, viewers can see the clear distinction between Cinderella’s and the Prince’s lifestyle. Cinderella has been turned into a servant by her evil step-mother; she appears to be poor while dressed in raggedy clothes. Above all, Cinderella manages to do her work with a smile and always singing. The only way Cinderella can escape her misfortune is to find a man to rescue her. Fortunately, in the movie, the King wants his son to find a suitable bride so they can grant him grandchildren. In order for that to happen, the King invites every “eligible maiden” to attend the ball at his kingdom. It’s every young woman’s dream to marry a Prince so they can be taken care of and depend on him. With the help of a fairy godmother, Cinderella finds her happy ending by marrying the Prince. She transformed from being a poor servant to a rich and untroubled princess. The overall message appears to be, if a rich man falls in love with a women, in the end she will find true happiness. However, the woman has to be beautiful in order for him to fall in love at first sight. This also portrays that a woman must be rescued by a man, which teaches girls to depend on other people to help them. Without the man they are not
