Task One
a) Select at least three of the following methods of interpersonal communication and discuss the significance of the each method: language, singing, personal contact, or body language.
Introduction
Communication is about how we interact and exchange information with other people. It is a two-way process which includes giving information to someone and receiving information from people (Middleton, 2004)
Interpersonal communication is an exchange of information, feelings and meaning between two or more people, in this process ideas are formulated with an aim and message is then sent and received by the recipient who gives a feedback, it mainly occurs between small groups of individuals, typically in a face-to-face setting, where participants engage in a minimally restricted dialogue with each other (Minardi & Riley, 1997)
There are two major ways of communicating namely; verbal communication which involves the use of spoken language, and non-verbal communication which is communication without the use of spoken words such as using gestures and body movements.
The importance of communication especially for professionals in health care settings cannot be over-emphasized. Everything starts and ends with communication. Exchange of information is important in providing the best care for client therefore, the need for healthcare professionals to communicate effectively.
I have selected three methods of interpersonal communications:
1] Language
2] Signing
3] Body
Communicate is essential in health and social care settings because without a good communication to patients, families, colleagues and management is very difficult to deliver good service of care.
Interpersonal Communication is a very important ingredient in making strong, healthy relationships. Communicating is how we get a better understanding of one another’s perception of things, as well as how we help someone to better understand ours. We need to express our feelings in relationships and know that they are reciprocated. Not communicating leads to problems and misunderstandings. People need to learn to understand what the other person is trying to communicate. Interpersonal communication is the process by which people exchange information, feelings, and meaning through verbal and non-verbal messages: it is face-to-face communication. It is about what is said, how it is said, and the use of non-verbal communication through
The different reason people communicate is to show pain, anger, joy, love etc. It is important for people communicate so their views, wishes and information gets across. The communication could be formal or informal. Documentation and record keeping is important in the social care sector as this information may be used for legal reasons. All communications is confidential and are on a “need to know” basis. Communication between colleagues and other healthcare professionals is essential, as it ensures continuity of care. It also shows staff are aware of the current needs of the client.
Communication is a process of transferring information from one person or from a group of people to the other. Communication can also be defined as a way and form of passing or receiving a message. People communicate to express or share a concern and allow the passing of message. By not communicating can limit the people’s ability to connect with each other. For instance care worker to care users and other professionals in the care setting environment. People communicate so that they can understand the needs of others and it ensures ways of building trust and resolving conflicts. Communication is a two way process that enables sharing of experience.
To me interpersonal communication describes the exchange of verbal and nonverbal messages between two different people. Joseph DeVito states that “interpersonal communication is inevitable, irreversible, and unrepeatable” due to these things effective communication is a necessary skill for us to function in our day to day lives (p. 20). Therefore, I have created a theory for interpersonal communication that goes as follows; To experience effective communication you must understand: your culture, the other person’s culture, and how to listen effectively. By knowing these three things you can consistently avoid misunderstandings and promote understanding in your interpersonal and intercultural relationships.
Communication is a process by which two or more people exchange ideas, facts, feelings, or impressions in ways that gains common understanding of messages. Communication can be used to bring out changes in attitudes and used to motivate people and establish and maintain relationships, it is also vital for seeking and providing information.
Communication is a process of passing or receiving messages, through individual or group of people. Lack of communication can minimize how people interaction with each other, sharing ideas, building a relation and understanding each other can only be achieve through communication. Also, in the care setting, employee, employer and the care user’s are able to deliver care provision and achieve their objection through communication. Communication enables understanding between people.
The two words ‘information’ and ‘communication’ are often used interchangeably, but they signify quite different things. Information is giving out; communication is getting through, (Harris, 2015). Communication is a vital element in the success of any health care field
Communication is a process of exchanging information, ideas, thoughts, feelings and emotions through speech, signals, writing, or behavior. People communicate with each other in a number of ways that depend upon the message and its context in which it is being sent. There are two choices of communication which are verbal and
Schwartz, Lowe & Sinclair (2010) have stated that effective communication is very important for a health care professional and service user to interaction with each other successful and also between the health care professionals. according to Weiss &Tappen (2014),P98 Communication is considered to be a core competency in promoting inter-professional collaborative practice.
Having the ability to communicate effectively is a necessary skill that we use today in the world. Communication is an important tool in the healthcare setting when providing great patient care and improving the patient health and satisfaction. However, a line of communicating can get cross and lead to a lower score of patient satisfaction and care. Member of the healthcare setting not only need to perform their day to day duties, but also should be able to address the need of the patients. And having a clear understanding of communicating can help. By equipping the medical staff in the healthcare profession with skills and knowledge they need can provide more effective communication with the patient they serve. Teach them communication principles
Interpersonal communication can be described as communication that occurs between two or more individuals. While communication can be either verbal, nonverbal, or written, interpersonal communication is more commonly practiced through face to face, verbal communication (Burton, 2011). The interpersonal communication process begins with a “sender”, which is the person that is communicating a message to another person. The “receiver” is the person that is retrieving the message from the sender. It is then the receiver’s job to interpret the message, and give feedback to the sender, allowing them to know that the message was received, and understood (Burton, 2011).
Communication is the process of gathering meaning from the world around us and using verbal and non-verbal messages to share this meaning with others. (Beebe, Beebe, and Redmond, 2005) More specifically, interpersonal communication can be defined as; “a distinctive, transactual form of human communication involving mutual influence, usually for the purpose of managing relation ships.” (Beebe, Beebe, and Redmond, 2005, p. 6) Interpersonal communication is extremely complex and encompasses many different themes and issues that affect many aspects of our daily lives.
