KEY VOCABULARY/CONCEPTS:
• Compare- looking at the similarity between something.
1. Contrast- looking at the differences between something.
Text structures-refers to how the information within a written text is organized. This strategy helps students understand that a text might present a main idea and details; a cause and then its effects; and/or different views of a topic. These definitions are important because they are the Key Terms throughout this unit. The student will need to know what compare, contrast, and text structures are. As students learn to read, they should learn to recognize different text structures so they can predict what type of information is included. This will raise text structure understanding and will to lead to a permanent improvement in reading skill.

Communication is how the world expresses their feelings or shares important information. It can be through verbal, action, and written. When discussing written communication there are tools used to make it stronger. One type of tool are cognate strategies. There are 9 cognate strategies: Clarity, Conciseness, Arrangement, Credibility, Expectation, Reference, Tone, Emphasis, and Engagement. I will discuss five random ones below in no particular order.
Communication is the key to this discourse community as it is with all others. Between my sister and I, communication is primarily verbal base and varies in subjects based on several conditions such as immediate surroundings, recent or
In this reading, John Stewart discusses how the “Two of the Most Important Words” can impact one’s communication. Stewart starts off by readdressing some concepts that were mentioned in the being of chapter two. He reminds the readers that communication is “the continuous, complex, collaborative process of verbal and nonverbal meaning making” (Stewart, 141). Stewart reiterates this definition to help readers understand how the “two most important words” tie into it. According to Stewart, the words “and” and “next” are effective ways to express solutions and meaning in communication.
The discussion of how the interaction of speaker, audience, and subjects affects the text is fundamental one because it determines how effective the text is in achieving its purpose.
Fill out the different cells with regard to each theory definition. You are to identify the theory the example represents, who developed the theory (theorist), explain the relevance of the theory, and then provide your own personal or professional application example of the theory.
In addition, understanding different models of communication enable members inside and outside an organisation to depict different messages being provided by the employee or customer and develop their communication skills. The Shannon and Weaver model of communication was developed to show the effects of communication between two people (Kikoski, 1993). In the Shannon and Weaver model, a message is encoded (via a symbolic form) from a source (the sender) through a medium called a channel, and decoded (retranslated) by the receiver. However, the message can be interrupted by a process called noise and can result in discrepancy and sometimes negative feedback from the receiver (Bowman and Targowski, 1987). In response to the Shannon and Weaver model of communication, through the identification of any noise within the communication process, as a result of the manager level of attunement in communication skills, the encoded
People communicate for more meaning than only for the words spoken. Sometimes what we intended to say is not what the other person undersrands. By understanding why misunderstanding occurs will help to improve our communication skills in or prevent this from happening again (Managing and managing people, 2011a). The three approaches by John Austin (1962) who established the concept of using language as a speech act which help in identify the differences between what the speaker intended to say, the literary meaning of the speaker as well as how what was said was received by the speaker. (Managing and managing people, 2011b).
“Communication is a complex process where many variables must be considered, ensuring that the message conceived, encoded, and sent by the author is the same message that is decoded and understood by the recipient” (Lear, Hodge, and Schulz, 2015, p. 66). The sender’s message is transmitted through written, oral, listening, non-verbal and electronic channels
Communication is a complex activity which involve verbal and non-verbal communication, the topic under discussion, the prejudgments that people bring to the topic, and the “communication history” between participants in the discussion. A Speaker who transmits message must ensure that the message is delivered clearly. A listener who takes the messages must be an active listener. As effective communication can only take place when the recipient of the message understands it’s meaning and able to express that meaning back to the speaker or sender of the message.
