1. Disney saw its first success by gaining a competitive advantage in the cartoon industry. Disney did this by doing something that had never been done before in the history of animation; adding synchronized sound to Disney’s Mickey Mouse cartoon. This competitive advantage was valuable, rare, and because Mickey Mouse was copyrighted, unable to be imitated. After the success of Disney’s cartoon shorts, Walt Disney realized he needed to continue expanding into new industries in order to grow his company and the company’s revenues. Disney accomplished this by entering the full-length feature film industry with their debut project Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Next Disney began producing live-action films, TV specials, and television programs. Then Disney entered the theme park industry with Disney Land and subsequently Disney World. Moving into more recent years, Disney has remained successful through revitalizing its movie and TV business, making the theme parks more profitable, and expanding further into media through acquisition. In the 80s and 90s Disney began to open theme parks in international markets as well, while movies like The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, and Aladdin revitalized their animated movie front. Disney also acquired ABC and ESPN, furthering its media empire. And Disney also furthered its reach in Hollywood by opening several new studios, which produced the likes of Pretty Woman and Pulp Fiction. Disney became successful through its
