I am writing to express my interest in the current position as the Young Parent Counsellor. Having completed a Diploma of Counselling and a Diploma of Community Services, together with my can-do attitude and transferable skills I believe that I would make a valuable contribution to this position. Throughout my working career I have gained extensive experience in developing, implementing and evaluating current policies and procedures in keeping with current legislative requirements. These policies and procedures are then maintained through continuous improvement processes. As a manager of people and as a facilitator I have gained the ability to maintain accurate records and notes in relation to self-development and/or services provided. I have effective strategies to help manage my time, set priorities and work towards deadlines and I have achieved goals through setting priorities and working to company set KPI’s. I am responsible for ensuring that my mandatory training is up to date, and that I follow all codes, legislation, and recommendations when performing my duties. I will ensure that my job description is current, and am aware of my responsibilities within my role. It is important that I attend refresher courses to update my practical skills, and attend new training courses to improve my working knowledge and skills.

I am responsible for the development of staff and support them to perform their roles. I conduct monthly one to one meetings and identify any training needs. I organise training, sourcing suitable courses from the internal Shared Service System where courses are listed, and from local colleges and local service providers to suit the training need.

I treat others fairly with respect, dignity and honesty whilst ensuring the service users voice is heard in 1-1 sessions as well as group work. I enjoy the prospect of continuous professional development in not only my practice yet the whole teams to ensure all service users are receiving excellent care whilst looking for improvements in professional practice and processes in developing the company. This may be demonstrated through good information governance, mutli-disciplinary meetings, ward rounds and other social work forums. I am applying to your Masters of Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. I have earned my undergraduate degree in Biblical Studies from Mount Vernon Nazarene University. During my time earning my undergraduate degree I also minored in psychology. I am motivated to earn this degree because of the experiences that I have had while growing up in a home with a workaholic father and a bed ridden mother. This childhood has inspired me to work with those who are struggling emotionally and are in need of guidance and assistance.
As my previous role was a team leader it was essential that the skills learnt previously were carried into my new role and enhanced to be able to provide the best service possible. Person centred care is vital to providing support to suit an individual's needs; I have implemented this when doing the into care plans, I sat with citizens to go through their support package which can increase the understanding of a citizens involvement in their support so that their needs are met; additionally as a senior a person centred approach is also used when supporting staff with their professional development, it is about the inclusion of staff to meet their targets and aims making them appropriate and realistic to the individual. We discuss the CIPD HR Profession Map and how we can use it to assess our professional development needs. We then move on to look at how we deliver our L&D service, considering: who are our customers, how well do we meet their needs and what can we do to improve our service delivery. In the final section of the chapter we look at the concept of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and give some practical tips on how to complete a CPD Record and select activities for professional development.
