3.4.4 Testing & Issues Encountered Though great care was taken to test assets and scripts as they were added to ensure correct functionality, some issues still emerged. A significant problem was a major visual glitch, which made objects in the horizon disappear when in the user’s direct line of sight (Fig. 25). Initially this error was thought to be caused by the rendering layer of the alpha maps, however it was later discovered that, due to the size of the environment, the horizon fell behind the camera’s clipping plane. Increasing this setting resolved the issue. Figure 25. Disappearing horizon assets. A second issue involving the script that detected player input and performed functions accordingly was also discovered. This error caused the player’s response to the first question they encountered to be automatically applied to all other questions in the scene. This meant that after the first question was answered the user would either …show more content…

Some features for the ‘could’ section of the project’s MoSCoW prioritisation technique (Fig. 9) were cut from the prototype version. This includes a visual guidance mechanic such as a mini-map, which would have directed players towards billboard locations, however, the use of floating markers was deemed suitable enough to indicate their locations. Audio facts were removed as there was a worry that these would distract the user as they attempted to read the billboards, and possibly increase the application’s completion time above that of the 10-15 minutes intended. Animations were not added to the application as these were considered a purely aesthetic feature which would not significantly add to the application’s core functionality. The time which would have been used on integrating animations was instead spent on refining the scripts and quiz mechanics, an arguably more essential element of the
