Dead Sea Scrolls: The Essenes

The sect often identified with the Dead Sea Scrolls is the Essenes, and this group dedicated themselves wholly to their beliefs (Tullock, & McEntire, 2012). While we understand little about the Essenes, the writers of the Dead Sea Scrolls were disgusted with the religious hierarchy and removed themselves from society to worship without disruption. Moreover, the authors of these scrolls believed that an epic battle between the righteous and those sinful was imminent and that they had to prepare accordingly (Tullock, & McEntire, 2012). Additionally, this sect tied to the Essenes by scholar likely lived in the settlement of Qumran, close to the caves where the scrolls resided. So, this sect related to the Dead Sea Scrolls lived a minimalist life
