The movie Juno is not only an excellent representation of film and the creative process coming together to create characters and a story that draws in the audience and allows them to invest themselves in the lives of the characters, but it is also an excellent example of the developmental process. This is because the movie reflects not only the development of its protagonist Juno MacGuff and her emotional growth and development, but also her physical development throughout her pregnancy.
Juno begins with the adolescent protagonist, sixteen year old Juno MacGuff, realizing that her one night stand with her friend and long-time crush, Paulie Bleeker, has resulted in her being pregnant. However when Juno goes to the clinic to receive the

The arising conflict, which puts extra strain on Mark's relationship with Vanessa, who is so sure in her desire to have a child, results in their separation and the falling apart of what seemed such a perfect solution to Juno's predicament. Mark and Vanessa's separation hits Juno especially hard, because in her helpless situation Mark and Vanessa's seemingly perfect situation not only grounded her but gave her hope, as her birth parent's divorce and the dysfunctional relationship between her father and stepmother seem to give her no hope for happiness now or later in life. As Juno's pregnancy reaches full-term her faith in others and relationships is restored when she realizes that Vanessa's desire and love for her unborn child makes her more than suitable to be the mother of her child, which also gives her the courage to express her true feelings for her friend Paulie. The movie ends on an inspirational and hopeful note, with Juno having a healthy baby boy whom Vanessa willingly and lovingly accepts, and Juno and Paulie entering into a healthy and stable relationship. After watching the movie with some knowledge of the process of growth and development, the role that Bronfenbrenner's, Piaget's, and Erickson's theories played in Juno's development.
Urie Bronfenbrnner stressed the importance of the systems that surround each person, and the significant impact they have on that person's development. These
Piaget, Vygotsky, and Erikson are very well known men for their different theories of development. Although each of them believe different things about how a child develops, I believe that a child can go through all of these theories and benefit from them. I also understand that not everyone is the same, and what might be true for someone could be different for someone else. In my own personal experience, I believe I went through and I’m going through all these different stages in theories throughout my life. I also work at a daycare and we use aspects from each of these theories when going about teaching children. The three different theories include: Piaget’s theory of cognitive development, Vygotsky;s sociocultural theory of
The field of study that examines patterns of growth, change, and stability in behavior that occur throughout the entire lifespan is called lifespan development. Lifespan development takes a scientific approach in its study of growth, change, and stability. This development emphases on human development. Developmentalists study the course of development in nonhuman species, the most popular examine growth and change in people. In contrast I will focus on the ways people and myself change and grow during our lives, with the consideration of stability in our live span. Together, these findings suggest that we will go through
Urie Bronfenbrenner perspective on lifespan development was the bio-ecological approach which suggest that five levels if the environment simultaneously influence indviduals. He tagged different aspects or levels of environment that influences a child’s development. Urie Bronfenbrenner five major systems are called microsystem; which is everyday immediate environment in which children lead their daily lives. Second is the mesosystem; which provides connections between the various aspects of the microsystem. Third is the exosystem; It represents broader influences, encompassing societal institutions such as local government, the community, schools, churches, and the local media. Fourth is the macrosystem; and it represents the larger
As Bernstein (2010) points out, often times people with ADHD “zone out” and miss valuable parts of conversations. This results in them bouncing back, often with a quick lie in order to continue the flow of conversation. These lies occur so quickly in order to fill voids of conversation, and so often, that they can sadly become a habit.
When an infant arrives in the world they are helpless tiny humans who depend on adults for every need from love, to feeding them. It is amazing how these tiny babies grow into adults able to make decisions and become self-dependent. There are many theories about how children develop and what roles the environment plays, what people affect their lives and how events can shape their personalities. Some of these children have and easy life and some have a harder time making that journey to adulthood.
Juno, is about a 16-year-old, high school girl faced with the challenge of an unplanned pregnancy. As she sits in an abortion clinic waiting to abort her unborn child, she decides to have the baby. She is aware that she can’t raise it herself and decides to give her child up for adoption. She stumbles upon a lovely couple on a newspaper ad and instantly knows they are the parents she wants for her child. However, problems begin to unravel when Juno and Mark start bonding, perhaps more than they should. Grief and loss are seen throughout the movie from the birth mother, adoptive parents, and the grandparent’s perspective.
Can Juno make the cut? In this essay the film Juno will be analyzed to see if it meets the criteria required to be included in this years Weird Romance Film Festival. If the film meets the requirements the film will be included in the festival, but if it fails to then the film will be denied. Some of the requirements are that the movie, most importantly, is a romance, involves an unconventional relationship between characters and the relationship has awkwardness. Juno falls into the romantic comedy genre because the overall plot revolves around romance, but there is an underlying comedic mood throughout the film. The film is also arguably a dark comedy, having dark comedy characteristics such as treating a serious subject lightly and having a social conflict but not telling the viewer what to think. The movie is about a teenage girl named Juno that gets pregnant and initially handles the situation very maturely. Juno decides not to abort the baby but rather put it up for adoption and finds a
Development psychology refers to the scientific study of the systematic psychological changes that normally occur to human beings throughout their growth period from birth to old age. It was originally concerned with children and infants, but it has since expanded to include the entire life span of mankind including adolescence and adulthood. Development psychology covers the extent to which human development occurs through gradual accumulation of knowledge, and the extent to which children born with inmate mental structures learn through experience. Several psychological theories and approaches like the behavioral, humanistic, psychoanalytic, biological, and cognitive approaches have been developed to explain the
Developmental psychologist Urie Bronfenbrenner first introduced the Ecologicial Systems model in the 1970’s. Bronfenbrenner argued that to understand human development, the environment in which the person belongs must be understood (Bronfenbrenner, U.1979). The Ecological Systems model concentrically depicts how a person’s development is influenced by their wider environment. In the original model there were four ecological levels in the system, however in 1979 Bronfenbrenner added an additional fifth level (Bronfenbrenner, U. 1994). With the developing person in the centre, the five progressive levels of environment include the microsystem, mesosystem, exosystem, marcosystem and the chronosystem.
During this time the explorations are being done and they are basing their possibilities on them. When this is discouraged it causes confusion of themselves and their role in society.
In 2007, Fox searchlight released Juno in Canada and United States of America as a comedy-drama directed by Jason Reitman. The film became hugely successful earning Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay and Oscar nominations: Best Picture and Best Actress for Ellen Page (Juno-film: www.wikipedia.org). The film written by Diablo Cody depicts a story of female character name Juno MacGuff, with an unexpected pregnancy leading her into an adoption rather than an abortion. The decision leads remarkable change of her surrounding life in family and school. As the movie received numerous positive feedbacks, but the movie also portrays controversial issues such as rational decision of pro-life vs. pro-choice, consequence of unprotected sexual
I chose to do the movie Juno for this essay because I have never seen the movie and the genre was something I would be interested in. The genre for this movie is drama, romantic, and comedy. The storyline for this movie is that this young, sixteen year old named Juno, ends up getting pregnant during her junior year of high school. She’s the type of girl who doesn’t care what others think of her. In the beginning, Paulie, the boy that Juno likes and also the father of her unborn child, like each other but she isn’t ready to have a family. Paulie is also unsure about the situation and leaves everything up to Juno to decide what to do with what is happening. Her first instincts is to have an abortion. While sitting in the abortion center filling out the paperwork, Juno soon realizes that’s not what she can go through with. Her good friend Leah recommends her to look at ads for adoption. Juno thinks she finds the perfect couple to take care of her unborn child. Before she chooses this family, she goes home to tell her Step-mom, Bren, and her father, Mac, that she got pregnant at a young age. Obviously, this isn’t the easiest thing to do especially at such a young age. After telling her parents, her parents were shocked and thought Juno was going to tell them something like she was expelled from school or hard into drugs but that wasn’t the case. But they knew that something serious had to be done. They found Mark and Vanessa Loring who are looking to adopt. Juno thinks they are
out with her best friend Leah and a guy named Paulie Bleeker, however after an “accident” with Bleeker, Juno finds herself pregnant. At this time Juno knew she had to do something so she went to the nearest Women’s Clinic, but soon she changes her mind and gives it up for adoption instead. With the help from Leah they soon find an ad in a newspaper, Juno decides to contact them and later she meets up with them. They seem like the perfect parents but after a dramatic turn she finds out that they may not be what she once thought. The big turning point for me would be when Mark reveals that he is going to break up with Vanessa. After this Vanessa gets her heart shattered and Juno wants to help them out. This led to Juno having to make many difficult decisions, even the whole plot changed from one thing to the other. All this makes this certain turning point stand out from the rest and that is why in my opinion this is the most
Juno is 16-year-old girl and is a junior in high-school. Juno is a normal girl who feels slightly out of place in high school and finds the whole situation of adolescence a bit meaningless. She discovers she 's pregnant after one event in a chair with her best friend, Paulie Bleeker. She is smart enough to know she does not have the maturity to become a mother. This makes its hard to make some of the decisions she now must make for the future of her baby and herself. She has the options of having an abortion, to keep the child, or give it up for adoption. She goes to the abortion clinic and decides not to have and abortion and to give the baby up for adoption, once she finds the baby allegedly has finger nails.
A positive feeling emanates from the opening scenes of ‘Juno’. Set in 2006 in Minnesota, the film opens in warm autumnal sunshine. The love scene between the eponymous 16 year old Juno and her boyfriend, Paulie Bleeker, is shot in soft focus and subdued lighting, conveying a sense of tender affection. In an animated sequence we see Juno walk in a confident carefree manner accompanied by an upbeat song on the soundtrack. The mood is decidedly optimistic, generating a feeling of positive anticipation in the viewer.
