Shortly before 500 B.C. a great philosopher named Heraclitus was at his peak. He used the style of epigram to explain the human condition meaning in short that reality is opposition or strife and flux. (Melchert) The opposition being what keeps the flux (constant change) in its boundaries, such as a river in its banks. You can see this opposition and flux represented in Picasso’s works defined in his ever changing style and subject matter. During his lifetime Picasso “moved interchangeably between different styles sometimes even in the same artwork.” (The Art Story) Picasso is quoted stating that "Different themes inevitably require different methods of expression. This does not imply either evolution or progress; it is a matter of following the idea one wants to express and the way in which one
Understanding the similarities and differences between the two works, one can by extension understand how cubism took influence from post-impressionism, as well as what new elements it brought to the table. The setting and mood are very similar, as is the sense of timelessness and the focus on structure and forms. In Picasso's work, however, the form is further broken down into more basic geometric shapes and they are set against a two-dimensional plane, in stark contrast to the spatial depth that Cezanne featured ("Pablo Picasso's Cubism Period", n.d.).
Their aim was to change to a new seeing completely. They were more concerned in changing viewpoint as it was affected by space or time. The idea of Cubism was to show all viewpoints at the same time. The usage of human form in paintings was influenced by African tribal masks. Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque started the art movement known as Cubism in 1907. As an aesthetic and philosophical improvement, this type of sculpture and painting changed modern abstract art for the rest of the 20th century. Paintings in this style are familiar by their faceted nudes,
Pablo Picasso was a spanish painter who completed girl before a mirror in 1932. At first glimpse of this painting could advance viewers into thinking of arrogance or vanity because of the concentrated girl looking at her reflection in the mirror. However, the painting divulges more information because of the grown womb and mature face of the women. Picasso was a founder of the cubist style which broke down objects into diverse shapes and sizes and could allow the viewer to acknowledge the painting from different point perspectives.
Throughout the early 1900s, traditional African sculpture had become a significant influence with the European artists who would later be a part of an avant-garde movement within the growth of modern art. The image they received resulted in a vivid color scheme, fragmented cubist shapes, and an overall pictorial flatness. These are the features that went on to help define modern art. Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso and their School of Paris associates, accomplished these techniques by mixing the stylized treatment of the human figure in African sculptures with painting techniques originating from the post-Impressionist works of Cezanne and Gauguin. Even though these artist had no idea about the overall meaning and aesthetics of the west and

Cubism is an endeavor to express, in visual requisites, the notion of the four dimensions. Thanks to the contribution of Paul Cézanne, cubism began as an idea but later become a style. There are three main features of cubism; multiple views, geometry, and course. Pioneered by Braque George cubism started in the early 20th century. Cubism artwork entails the breakdown of objects and reassembling them in an abstract manner (Cotter 2005). The objects are depicted from more than one point of view thus creating greater context. Over the years artists have generally been influenced by the developments in technologies of their era. Through impressionism, we had Monet who saw realistic paintings as redundant after the invention of photography. Instead, Monet focused on capturing how light and shadows affect our impression on a subject. By 1916, Picasso had taken this further and depicted all sides and shapes of reality at once with Cubism. It was technologies of The Industrial Revolution that handed Picasso and other artists their new found freedom and inspiration. Their art was reflected by the attention and understanding they had to the evolving change in times. Since then, technology has changed drastically and artists are constantly using this to their
Pablo Picasso is known to be a mastermind of the art world. He essentially invented cubism and contributed to the advancement of modern art. Les Demoiselles d’Avignon is a painting that shows five nude ladies all posing different ways. All of them have very different faces and body shapes, something that was common during Cubism. The women are formed out of geometric shapes, but their forms are definite.
Every artist has a unique identity. Identity of who they are in terms of their individuality. This can be their gender, race, body, color, thoughts etc. An artist will always try to showcase his identity through his art. There are numerous artists who work in the field of identity but used their body as their medium to bring forward the ideas. Body carries many signs of identity like hairs, nails, skin, color, posture, cloths, gestures etc. There is a deep complete connection of art with human identity and this connection has been present throughout art history. The subject of the artist’s work, the properties of it and the material used to create it; all of it reflects the identity characteristics at both individual and cultural level for both the artist and his intended audience. The interest in various identities is a rediscovery and reinterpretation of different cultures and traditions from the past which we have either forgotten or we consider it from the past. This relation can be seen clearly in all the works done by James Luna. His works do connect to identity politics. Identity politics is performed by artist who targets the beliefs and activities of any race, sex, or other forms of prejudice which already exist in the society and work for social justice and economic parity.

Lady with an Ermine is a painting by Italian Leonardo da Vinci from around 1489–1490.
