From my LSI survey results my primary thinking style is “The constructive style” which includes Humanistic and Affiliative styles of thinking. According to the Survey this style of thinking enables me to make decisions that allows me to improve myself and to build healthy relationships with the people around me. Another definition that I have come across that also explains this style of thinking a little more in depth explains; “Constructive thinking is basically a way of thinking constructively about your world and environment. So instead of reacting to these events, you choose to interpret and then respond to them in ways that will support your growth and development and minimize friction with the external environment.” (Contructive …show more content…
Humanistic-Encouraging, Affiliative, Achievement and Self Actualization, my thinking style embodies all of them and are utilized both in my personal and professional lives. My secondary thinking style according to the survey is the “Passive/Defensive styles” which includes Approval, Conventional, Dependent and Avoidance. I do not wholeheartedly agree with this survey but there are elements of it that characterizes my thinking style. This style of thinking means that I am cautious when it comes to the way I interact with people and it addresses certain security issues that basically decides if I trust certain people or not. As a leader, I always give my subordinates the benefit of the doubt until they demonstrate through their actions that I can no longer trust them. Although I see this style of thinking as a positive way to help shield oneself from disappointments that could be brought about by interactions with others, however “they interfere with personal effectiveness and negatively impact individual health and well-being.” (Passive/Defensive styles, 2014). When trust becomes an issue in the workplace then it does interfere with the interactions between people and therefore build negativity in the team. . Also, I do not necessarily seek approval from others to get something done but I do seek recognition or at least some kind of an acknowledgement. Even though I adhere to the rule, I do not conform myself too much into the rules because I
Writing is a powerful tool for communication and connection. As an extension and expression of the mind, writing is as much about the mental processes of the author as it is about the final marks laid to paper. As we write, we hold in mind our own thoughts on the work, anticipate the reader’s thoughts, and think both in concrete and abstract ways in order to accomplish the task at hand. Whether an academic research paper, a novel, or text message to friends, writing seeks to engage, persuade, or impress concepts upon an audience. Like language and other art forms in general, the practice of writing is ever-evolving and is subject to cultural and contextual influence, expectations, and conventions. Each writer holds a theory
Like transforming from a caterpillar to a butterfly, my writing style transformed from something mediocre to something quite exceptional. In high school, even when I took advanced placement English and Literature courses, I was never good at writing. My writing would lack structure, reasoning, syntax, and a well-defined thesis statement. My inadequate grades on writing assignments lowered my self-esteem, so I assumed I would never enjoy writing papers because I believed I could never improve. However, since attending a university my writing style has improved far beyond my expectation. My EN 101 course enhanced my understanding of the different ways I could approach my writing. Also, it enhanced my comprehension of outlines to complete assignments. Investing quality time into my writing made a substantial difference because I became a stronger writer. Through the late nights, constant revisions, and agonizing head traumas, I learned that my writing is truly spectacular whenever I incorporate well-defined thesis statements, provide sufficient supporting evidence, and maintain a clear focus in my assignments.
A typical high-school student struggles in learning new concepts, in AP Language & Composition many students learn new challenging concepts which make the class difficult.
The life styles inventory is a survey of questions that help us to gain an insight into our own personality and what type of behaviors we exert to others as individuals. It helps us to look at the positive and negative qualities of our personalities and ways to improve upon them. A look at my LSI styles complex radiates that my primary thinking style is linked to the avoidance category. The avoidance scale states that I tend to use the strategy of withdrawal by hiding my feelings and being shy to express myself. It also states that as things become more threatening to me the more I tend to avoid those situations. These thinking styles are linked to feelings of denying responsibility for my own
Employment essays detailing experience in a certain occupational field are required when applying for some jobs, especially government jobs in the United States. Essays known as Knowledge Skills and Executive Core Qualifications are required when applying to certain US federal government positions.
It’s ENC 1101, Not knowing what to expect I entered the room with absolute fear, after all it was my first year of college. Although I’ve never been quite fond of English in the past, I’ve always excelled in the subject. I had yet to work for my grade and no English course I had taken proved to be a challenge through my eyes. I am a huge procrastinator, if not one of the biggest when it comes to assignments. I most likely wrote papers the night before or the day of and still managed to average an “A” on all of them. This bad habit led me to believe that I was cheating myself. Throughout my scholastic years I always had the mentality of asking “what could this class possibly teach me that I didn’t already know?” I believed that my writing
My “primary” personal thinking style as shown in my circumplex is The Humanistic-Encouraging Style. This style means that I am “accepting of myself, and accept others for who they are without question or criticism” (Human 2010). Humanistic-Encouraging individuals believe they can “assist others in fulfilling their potential by providing a supportive climate that inspires self-improvement” (Human 2010). I believe that this very accurate summation of myself. This can easily be seen at my previous job as a waiter. I was often asked to train new employees because I was considered sensitive to people 's needs, and was willing to devote energy to counseling and coaching others. I also consider this style accurate about
My primary thinking style is Self-actualizing and I can totally see myself through the description of this thinking style. The self-actualizing thinkers are characterized by an unusual high acceptance of self, others and situations “as they are.” They have a strong interest in working to become everything they are capable of being. They have a sense of self-worth, a strong curiosity about people and things, and an acute
Introverted Thinking is least apparent and most enigmatic in this type. In fact, it often appears only when summoned by Feeling. At times only in jest, but in earnest if need be, Thinking entertains as logical only those conclusions which support Feeling's values. Other scenarios can be shown invalid or at best significantly inferior. Such "Thinking in the service of Feeling" has the appearance of logic, but somehow it never quite adds up.
My primary thinking style is dependent. This style fell into the high range of the LSI Style Circumplex with a 96 percentile score. Dependent thinking style is originates in a need for security and self-protection: dependent people typically feel that they have very little control over their lives. This type of behavior may be long-standing, or due to temporary life changes such as a new job, a promotion, an illness, or the break-up of a close relationship. When dependent behavior occurs as a result of a temporary life change, the feelings of dependency tend to diminish as the particular situation is resolved. I feel that the result for dependent style is that the dependent person tend to feel
There are many writing styles that many people pick up as they go through there many years of schooling. Each person picks up the same type of writing styles but as years go by people seem to pick up there own little types of writing style that separates them from everyone else. As I have gone through many years of English classes I have acquired more and more skills and many more are sure to come as I continue my education. My writing skills have only gotten better from the time of ninth grade English class until today. Since my days back in junior high school I was only taught the basic skills to write papers and since then they have grown to make me a decent writer. I have many strengths and also
My primary personal thinking style is an affiliate (pg.7). The affiliate scale over all tells us our degree of commitment to forming social ties and seeks out for a close relationship with others. Affiliate people enjoy others company, and they are trustworthy. They also share their opinion easily and give advice to others to form warm environment. My result on the affiliate style is 93%, and it is in a high range. Survey said that “ this type of people tend to be most efficient and comfortable in the company of others. Also will strive to improve and maintain healthy relationships that are important to them” (affiliate style). Also for them teamwork is imperative, they like to cooperate and get mutually rewarded. Am I agreeing? Yes.
After taking the lifestyles inventory interpretation test I recognize my primary and secondary thinking styles, which are passive and defensive styles. I scored higher in the conventional and dependent styles. The achievement and humanistic –encouraging closely followed my primary and secondary styles. The percentile scores were 90%conventional, 87% dependent, and achievement and humanistic-encouraging were both 75%. As regards to my conventional styles, I agree with some of the perception of what was listed about who I am. A conventional manager or chairperson is one who has a tendency to avoid conflict, very respectful of others, and reliable and steady. I have worked in management most of my career and I do a very close job with work and with people I’m around with what I’ve listed. I’ve been very successful with work and being a chairperson in a couple of positions in church with avoiding conflict and allowing others to use their ideas and skills to lead different events, this has proved to be very productive for the committees that I chair. The individuals involved in the committees that I chair offers help when needed and realize that I’m very easy to communicate with and easily to get along with, because I allow them to express themselves while listening carefully. They know that I’m a behind the scenes type person, just because I’m the chairperson doesn’t mean that I have to always be the one leading an event. I would rather watch them use their skills and
I think that the different approaches can be brought together in some circumstances but in my case it doesn’t. My personality makes more sense coming from the humanistic approach.
The development of self starts at a very young age. When a preschooler is asked how are they different from other children, they usually look at their self concept. Self concept is their identity, of their set of beliefs about what they are like as individuals. Most preschoolers give inaccurate statements about their self concept. They usually overestimate their skills and knowledge. Preschool-age children also begin to develop a view of self that reflects their particular culture considers the self. An example of this would be to look at the different views as self between the Western culture and the Asian culture. Western cultures believe that an individual should seek attention of others by standing out
