Loudspeakers and Line Arrays play a vital role in live sound reinforcement. The main goal of line arrays is to evenly distribute the full range of frequencies and ‘loudness’ of the performance to the audience, no matter where the people are standing. Stage hands and audio technicians work together before a live performance in order to achieve the optimum sound quality for the audience’s satisfaction during their experience of the live event. Typically, traditional line arrays are set up by technicians on ground level. With the help of motorized hoists, the speakers are hanged or “flown” to be rigged at a specific height and achieve its J shaped curve- provided that the stage or venue is able to properly accommodate the speakers’ weight …show more content…
Furthermore, each high frequency driver consists of several movable components in order to optimize the “aim” of high frequencies. While ICONYX is supposedly one of, if not the first of its kind, Renkus-Heinz is not the only company to develop digitally steerable speakers. Martin Audio’s version of digitally controlled line arrays is called the “Multi-Cellular Loudspeaker Array” or MLA. Aesthetically, the MLA is more like the line arrays flown on big concerts and stadiums most people are familiar with. Simply put, by using the provided software, the specifications of venues or audience space is detected and analyzed by the array itself. Additionally, each of the 72 to 144 “cells” or parts of the line array is capable of having its own phase, level, and EQ individually and independently set. All of this is controlled electronically, by further use of digital signal processing. Due to the sheer amount of moving components, the MLA has the ability to constantly change its directionality and arrangement in order to adjust the loudspeakers’ coverage, or accommodate to weather changes, or rigging height modifications; in real time. Unfortunately, further in-depth scientific data and proof presented by Martin Audio is far beyond my understanding of physics and acoustics, so I will not attempt to rehash the information and instead cite the source. Suffice to say, MLA uses
Early 1960s was the time when A&R man (who was responsible for arranging and coordinating all the professionals such as singers, musicians, audio technicians and instrumentation) started getting replaced by record producer. Due to the increase in control of record companies and decrease in the authority of musicians as record producer became more important than the singer in the recording process. One of the example of record producers of that time is Phil Spector, who was considered as one of the most significant record producer because he wrote and recorded many hit songs. It was through these songs, Spector developed his famous “Wall of sound,” which included recording a large number of instruments, blending the sounds together, adding reverb,
Most successful musicians know a hidden art carried out by the work of a good sound engineer; it is essential for a magnificent album. For the rest of us novice listeners and fans, we believe what we hear through our speakers or played over the radio are the true skilled professional musicians, soaring at their craft. Most contemporary music, from pop to R&B and acid jazz to the sophisticated realm of orchestral film scores, has been modernized by several inventions encased within the studio. The art of audio engineering has taken on new forms, from the nuts and bolts, "plug it in, and see if it works" era into the digital world, because of these wonderfully tragic solutions to a
As mentioned earlier, this process is broken down into three different segments. The two-tone speaker was constructed using both active and passive components as alluded to in the introduction. The relaxation oscillators were responsible for the generation of the two noise tones, the switching of the tones and the frequency at which the tones switch. It is then passed through a 1k resistor and finally through a transistor which is connected to the tone section of the circuit. The transistor in this case acts as an amplifier, and its main purpose is to amplify the final signal and supply it to the speaker, making it audible. The simulations are tested and recorded under section
Looking at the available information [2] Polyphonic should have seen that the market trend for sales from big box stores over previous decade had been in a sharp decline (Figure 1) and considered targeting a different market segment from the beginning. Polyphonic’s either didn’t see the trend or thought that it wouldn’t affect the release of the new technology. Because of the late discovery the
Sonance is a company at a crossroads, long established as the leader in high-end home theatre speakers, it is at an inflection point where it needs to decide whether it wants to be a high-end speaker producer served through customized dealer channels, or a mass market audio systems maker. The past decade has seen the rise of a new competitive threat, the demise of its dealer channel and the emergence of a highly informed and selective customer base which have all served to hurt the company’s prospects.
It is important to recognize how the sound of music is being engineered over time. There are many audio engineers till this day trying to improve the qualities of stereo like or listening equipment to be the best
There were many design features that was used throughout the making of this product, some of these include fade in and fade out, the envelope tool (this helps with making the noise go louder or quieter and decides how gradual the effect is), change pitch, vocal reduction and
The auditorium plays a dual function, connecting the first floor to the second floor galleries, and it also works as an event area. The seats are connected to the stairs creating bleachers in between, with an open staircase pushed to the left of the wall. In this way visitors are able to engage in the space by not only going up the staircase. This exposed area provides different types of events, from a presentation or performance, to screenings projecting into the front of the auditorium, to more intimate gatherings like groups and clubs. These more intimate spaces are due to the mechanized walls that act a as a curtain to section off the auditorium. In this manner the spaces of the auditorium adapt to the circumstances and the purpose of each different event, making the visitor feel like it’s in control of the
Music has been a passion of mine for many years. The sonic power of frequency captivates me entirely along with the depth of theory that goes behind it all. Nothing is as integrated with art, human expression, and science as music is. You have sound and frequency as itself, and then the physical, tangible applications that allows us humans to harness and mold the sound into whatever we want. I have been playing music since I was young, and as time passed I grew more curious about the way things around me worked. I began to wonder how the tools of the art work. This curiosity has driven myself to knowing the ins and outs of the physical realm within the music world. I want to know how the amplifiers that I use on a day to day basis function.

Sounds and speech are captured by a microphone and sent to the external speech processor. The processor then translates the sounds into electrical signals, which are then sent to the transmitting coil. These codes travel up a cable to the headpiece and are transmitted across the skin through radio waves to the implanted cochlea electrodes. The electrodes’ signals then stimulate the auditory nerve fibres to send information to the brain where it is interpreted as meaningful sound.
The revolutionary Gracenote Dynamic EQ™ will employ the company’s industry standard music recognition technology and musical datasets to recognize a song and automatically fine-tune the audio system for the best possible playback for every unique track. It is the first in a series of improved audio technologies from Gracenote that is designed to boost the sound quality in the car.
Concerts contain so many sensations. The white chairs being put away, the stage getting placed back on the big black trailer piece by piece, and the quiet shuffles of the last feet leave the stadium; the stadium transforms into the purple and white stadium it once was, leaving no
