Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) refers to a group of physical and mental birth defects resulting from a women’s drinking alcohol heavily or at crucial stages during pregnancy. Fetal Alcohol Syndrome was first named and treated in the late 1960's. This condition results from the toxic effect of alcohol and its chemical factors on the developing fetus. FAS is the leading cause of mental retardation occurring in 1 out of every 750 births. The frequency of FAS occurs about 1.9 times out of every 1000 births according to the latest figures, and minor effects can be seen in up to 20% of pregnancies per year. This number changes drastically for women who are clearly alcoholics. As high as 29 children out of every 1000 births will suffer from FAS

Drug abuse is a social problem America has faced for years that is continuing to get worse as the years go by. Drug abuse has a negative effect on many different individuals, families, friends, and society as a whole. Drug use is frequently tied into crime and incarceration. Looking into ways to lower the possibility of inmates returning to drugs and incarceration can help lower the abuse of drugs for the entire society. Lowering the use of drug abuse can help heal people and their relationships along with lowering the crime rates in America.

My perspective on society’s current drug use problems stems essentially from all the lives I have personally seen destroyed or disrupted by addiction. Currently our nation is experiencing a heroin abuse epidemic. NSDUH (2014) established that nearly a half a million people in America were heroin users during 2014, and the epidemic is rampantly out of control (p. 11). There is a high impact of drugs and crime to society. The major impact of drug addicts is the need to commit a crime. Drug users are under the influence of a drug creating a type of intoxication that often leads to crimes committed. Illegal drugs is associated with rape, murder, aggravated assault, theft, burglary, and robbery. They need money to finance their drug taking habits and so they indulge themselves in petty crimes and in consequence they entangle themselves in big crimes.

Alcohol is an addictive drug, cravings meet physical dependence and alcohol abuse turns into alcohol addiction. Unfortunately, some expecting mothers are the ones responsible for exposing some of our youngest victims to alcohol, their unborn children. An addiction like this can damage a fetus at any stage within a pregnancy and can follow with many birth defects. Maternal drinking has its consequences not only to herself but her unborn child as well. This child can face fetal alcohol spectrum disorders once he or she is born. Long term effects can include growth deficiencies, facial abnormalities, and damage to the brain and nervous system.

Illegal substance abuse and addiction can have far-reaching negative impacts that affect not only the people who abuse drugs but also their friends, family members, the community, and government resources. Substance abuse can lead to domestic violence, child abuse, suicide, crime, automobile accidents, sexually transmitted diseases, HIV/AIDS, and unwanted pregnancy.

Many societies are denounced by the drugs which the effects can be fighting. Let’s see what problems causes the drug abuse and which are the solutions of this problem.

Substance abuse affects the society in different ways. Drug abuse in the workplace is considered to be costly as work time, and efficiency is always lost. In addition, drug users have high chances than non-users to cause accidents thus, endangering themselves and those around them (Lyman, 2013). Most of the drug users engage in criminal activities in order to obtain money for buying drugs, and this can lead to disruption of some neighborhoods as a result of violence among the drug users and threats to the residents (Garbarino, 2001).

Abuse of narcotics has become one of the unfavorable epidemics. Drugs come in a different variety but at the end all cause the same harm. The number of Drug abusers rises on the daily. Drugs ruin life’s but with further knowledge drug abuse can be terminated.

This assignment will discuss and critically analyse maternal welfare, observing the effects of alcohol on the growing fetus. Firstly, the issue will be to identify ways in which consumption of alcohol affects pre and postnatal conception. Barnes and Bradley (1990) assert consumption of alcohol during pregnancy may have serious consequences for the fetus. There is much harm that comes about due to the use of drugs, legal or illegal. For starters there are many health risks that one takes if he or she abuses the power of drugs. Someone that is addicted to drugs, either legal or illegal, puts an awful strain on their bodies. They also put an awful strain onto their family and friends. Attempts will be made in this paper to compare the harms that occur from the abuse of legal and illegal drugs.

How do drugs affect our body and society? The alteration caused by consumption of these psychoactive ingredients that has affected human mental state and society state is as old as history. It is only in the past decade that documentation of the severity has been analysed, however it is fair to say that not only have drugs caused this, but not human excessiveness? I wish to analyse the effects of certain drugs where Derrida has written extensively about. Many people don’t consider the real effects of drugs when they are about to use it. In today’s society, there are various types of drugs or substances that are either on the legal or illegal side. Just because a substance is legal does not make it beneficial and vice versa. The main categories of drugs are stimulants, depressants, and hallucinogens. The drug category that I would like to focus on is stimulants. The most heavily and frequently used stimulant, which is caffeine. Never does it cross someone’s mind that caffeine can be considered as a drug. However, various studies have shown that it causes both physiological and behavioral behaviors and can also cause dependence.

Drugs has been in our society since 1492, when Christopher Columbus discovered America. The Native American people gave him a taste of the first drug of tobacco. Later in time alcohol and caffeine became a new addiction to society. The history that these drugs have on the people, especially in the early 20th century, have been a big part of a public health discussion because people from all types of race buy or sell drugs. These drugs; society understands the demographics and race it changes. People still see it as drugs not being dangerous. The deadly influence of drugs come from different parts of the world, social media, and role models. Our society can reminds us the power the drugs have, but does not discriminate. These three drugs are everywhere in our community. Even though they do not face too much of criminal sanctions like the one who use the illegal drugs which would be marijuana and cocaine. Now between alcohol, caffeine and tobacco they are the most common drugs that society uses for many reason. This hard drugs people take them for non-medical reasons.
