Eagle Manufacturing Company
Major Facts
The major facts surrounding the Eagle Manufacturing case are varied, at best. We know the “estimate” for the maintenance department robot came in well under the proposed price. We also know that, for the time being, productivity is affected due to various budgetary and operational concerns. Finally, we know that the communication levels and productive aspects of each individual department are not well.
Major Problems
There are multiple major problems involving all facets of the Eagle Manufacturing Company. The primary problem, in my opinion, is the simple lack of communication between department heads, management and employees, and just within the company as a whole. The fact that the supply

While weekly staff meetings appear to be occurring, the communications still appear flawed. Ted’s best course of action is to send multiple communications emails or memorandums throughout the departments regarding process changes, budget cuts, and other information affecting the rest of the departments from the supply chain perspective. This may preclude the unnecessary questions that Ted has been experiencing. Ted’s next major issues lies with the procurement lead times. This is the problem that may cost the most money and stress to the company. Ted realizes the problems and needs to ensure that the other departments are submitting timely purchase request. This could be completed through an electronic submission format or by establishing timeline dates for varying values of procurements, perhaps a combination of both. Assuming, of course, the purchase requests are submitted utilizing hard copy formats. Establishing a timeline for procurements will also allow other departments to understand more effectively plan their procurements under timeline and budget constraints. Finally, if Ted can increase communications from his department to others and set hard procurement lead times, he may see morale begin to rise again. As the employees experience less stress from the immediate purchasing needs and backed into no-win situations, morale is likely to improve. Additionally, I believe in rewarding performance. One of the valued but demanding customer, who had considered Engstrom as a certified supplier, was requesting a large order but Engstrom was unable to deliver on time due to the low productivity problem. The plant manager along with his assistant were already dealing with the troubling numbers when this happened. While the task was a tough bone and not easy to tackle, and there were a lot of factors needed to be taken in to consideration. The leadership started to analyze and break down the main causations other than the overall economic trend that dragged the company into the turmoil, as it turned out, it was the low, frustrated employee morale and diminished work satisfaction.
1. There are a large number of problems at Engstrom. Worker morale is decreasing, and this is a combination of a few factors. The company instituted a Scanlon plan to drive productivity increases using cash bonuses. The employees have become accustomed to these bonuses, in part because the plan called for a reserve, which allowed Engstrom to pay out bonuses even when targets were not met. This created a disassociation between performance and reward. The employees now have a sense of entitlement. This manifests itself in reduced efforts to improve productivity, suspicion of management and in dissatisfaction when they do not receive their bonuses.
However, as a new member with a new product, electronic product in North American market, the reputation is also an important attribute. Especially, quick delivery time is a key attribute for this company, due to the demand of quick delivery in all markets. Moreover, the manufacturing process of the new product, electronic product, on which our company will definitely focus, has a lot demands. Such as, technology, innovation and quick delivery time even the ability to make the product be the first one appearing in the market (other company, which is developing the same product, may become our competitive opponents). Especially, technology is predicted to play the most important role in the manufacturing process. On the other hand, the traditional cost system has a lot of limitations. Traditional costing system focuses on the cost reduction and the efficiency, particular the products with relatively few standardized components; Clifton, however, produces a wide range of airplane components. In addition, nonfinancial aspects of

Thank you for taking the time to speak with me about the position as a sales associate at American Eagle. It was a pleasure meeting with you, and learning more about this wonderful company. After our discussion, I am assured that my skills and experiences are a great match for this opportunity. As we discussed, I believe my customer service skills and previous experiences, as a babysitter and pet sitter will entirely match as a sales representative.
A solution that improves the employees’ skills to effectively work in a team environment and restore productivity to its appropriate level will not only uphold our company's goal for a productive workplace but will also save the company financially from gaining customer satisfaction. I am enthusiastic to resolve the issues at hand and hope for the opportunity to begin the steps necessary to develop an effective
One of the primary areas of concern, noted by customers, is the order-information process. As more expansion and growth has happened in the sales and distribution areas, the bottleneck of information has become extremely problematic.
American Eagle is recognized for using warehouse execution software with the strategy of creating a omni-channel distribution center. According to the American Eagle Outfitter’s 2016 annual report, the company has “invested in building omni-channel capabilities to better serve customers and gain operational efficiencies. These upgraded technologies have provided a single view of inventory across channels, connecting physical stores directly to our digital store, providing our customers with a more convenient and improved shopping experience” (p.6). This company has available multiple distribution channels and stores that lets the company faster serve their customers’ needs. By their physical and/or digital store, customers have a better access
Both work satisfaction and organizational productivity is depleted during the furlough period (Badiru, 2014). When contractors realize that their organization is shifting from growth to decline because of furlough or a potential government shutdown, the contractors’ ability to control (external WLOC) work-relating situation drops (Lee & Sanders, 2013). The loss of interest and focus (internal WLOC) on service or work decreases work outputs and productivity (Badiru, 2014). Lee and Sanders (2013) acknowledged Cameron (1994) 's survey on senior managers working in downsized firms, where 74% of respondents noted a reduction in morale, trust, and work productivity.
Of all the topics in this course, many students find Lesson 4 to be the most frustrating. I think this may be due in part to an apparent contradiction: there are lots of numbers and equations to work with, but surprisingly little certainty in our conclusions. I share your frustrations at times. Fortunately, these cases are the only “strictly financial” case studies … the only ones where number crunching is an end unto itself. However, basic financial analysis will always be an important part of our toolkit for making pricing decisions.
There are various work relationship matters in the government environment which are among methods to improve productivity and reduce cost that impact an employee’s motivation in today’s workplace. In the government sector it is a continuous concern. Owners and managers of any businesses across the United States all have the same problem as it pertains to reducing cost and time management. This problem has to do with reaching maximum employee performance and productivity in a strategic environment (Workplace strategies). Many government contractors, owners, managers and agencies do not know how to chime into minimize this major problem. In the government contracting sector worked, it is the employer’s job to motivate the employees and increase employee productivity while saving cost on governmental contracts. There are vested employees who thirst for the best way to accomplish this (Motivation and productivity). Some leaders envision the solution by using motivational strategies while improving productivity that requires firm changes. In the government environment it is also most challenging with people who have a natural tendency to resist change because it is challenging and often frightening to the employee. On another note, employees who fear or resent productivity improvements will not be as motivated to make the changes work.
Proper following and acknowledgement of the timeline is vital to the success of this project. If the project goes overtime, it can cause serious budget mess-ups and furthermore delays.
