Body Art as Visual Language
1. Body art is any kind of addition to one's appearance for aesthetic purposes. Body art is believed to be beautiful by the beings who wear it. When an individual decides to decorate their body, it becomes a part of their identity. Any unwanted alteration to an individual would not be considered body art. Those could be considered body markings. (Enid Schildkrout 2001:88)
2. A symbol is something that represents a complexity of associated meaning. An aspect of symbolism is how unique it has to be by nature. We establish the meaning behind every creative endeavor. Body art is classified as symbolic because of its connotative qualities.
3. People of the past and present partake in the same forms of body art.

Some societies associate certain patterns of piercings with the sex of the human being. Painting on the body is part of many sacred ceremonies. Many tribes have particular patterns reserved for those rituals. The materials that make the paints are also known for their own sacred properties. Henna is another pigment that is created for ceremonial purposes in some circumstances. Colors also have a symbolic significance to the people who paint their flesh for more than fun. The symbolism varies by tribe. (Enid Schildkrout 2001:88) People also paint their nails as a way to enhance their appearance. For some individuals, it's an identifying factor. Patterns and colors are also present within nail art. Some artists incorporate other objects into their canvas' nails as well. Dependent upon the client, a nail artist can be fairly expressive on the acrylic. Designs can also be done to the canvas' preference. They can indicate taste, personal preferences, and interest. Since the hands are usually uncovered, painting the fingernails can be a statement. Make up is an incredibly common form of face painting. The fact that it's an art is evident due to the tools that are used. Attention to detail and patience is necessary as soon as an attempt is made. Although the artist may not know what their product was produced with, their application gives the action an intent. Every human face is unique and makeup gives people the opportunity to
Symbolism, symbolism the use of symbols to represent ideas or qualities. Throughout the book, The Other Side, the author uses symbolism. In the book Anne, a young white girl, says, “Someday somebody’s going to come along and knock this old fence down.” She does not mean the fence itself, she means the boundary between blacks and whites. The fence in the book is a boundary between the houses in the neighborhood.
2009. A symbol is an object, action, or event that represents something or that creates a range of associations beyond itself. In literary works a symbol can express an idea, clarify meaning, or enlarge literal meaning. Analyze a symbol in George Orwell's 1984, and write an essay demonstrating how that symbol functions in the work and what it reveals about the characters or themes of the work as a whole. Do not merely summarize the plot.
Symbolism is usually used to represent things that are meaningful without actually saying so, you’ll sometimes have to read behind the lines. Symbolism can be used as an artistic or poetic way of writing to represent an idea. There is a lot of symbolism used in the novel “Kindred” by Octavia Butler, she uses symbolism through her character Dana’s constant physical and emotional pain, it’s a motif. The constant pain and abuse Dana goes through represents the fact that whenever Dana travels back in time and gets hurt weather emotionally or physically, she never comes back as she originally was, she brings back a reminder of the past with her.
The body art is an ancient concept of human society. Tattoo and body piercing are the current and common trends of the body art in the American culture. In my opinion, there is nothing wrong to have these things on an individual’s body, if he or she is an art lover but if someone have this just because virtual world personalities have these then it is not relevant for him or her. As my classmates Juliet and Daniela have been mentioned about the harmful consequences of these things on human body in some ways.
Symbolism is a characteristic that stands out in a person or thing. People usually use symbolism for something that means to them or represents to them. The symbols are used for many things, for example the apple on the iphone, laptop or iPod symbolizes the brand. Symbols are also used in churches, for example the cross symbolizes Jesus Christ. It symbolizes how he was crucified, put to death on a cross. The colors symbolize something’s to for example the colors white, red and blue symbolize freedom in the United States, it also represents the United States flag. Symbols are also used in movies like the hunger games catching fire; their symbol is a mocking bird with an arrow on it.
Symbolism, is also, another way of doing things. You can do things different with this. Like in the lottery, It symbolises death, if you get a doth on your piece of paper, you will die. So it's a 50-50 chance of you living or dieing. People don't like the lottery because it symbolises death..
Accepting the fact that something is a symbol is easy. However, finding out what it means or what it stands for. Symbols can interpret more than one thing, we can only discuss possible meanings and interpretations. Symbols are not only built on associations readers have, but also on emotional reactions which captures the reader emotionally. f it isn’t symbolism, its allegory, which stands for other things on a one-for-one basis that convey a certain message. A symbol is an object, action, or event that represents something or that creates a range of associations beyond itself. In literary works, a symbol can express an idea, clarify meaning, or enlarge literal meaning. The image of the mule emerges repeatedly in different contexts throughout Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston, but remains consistent in its symbolism of Janie. The figure of the mule can also refer not only to Janie herself but to any black woman struggling for independence.
Symbolism can be found in many of the objects, places, or experiences around us. Believe it or not, symbolism may be found within a person. Symbolism represents an object that has more than one meaning within it. As an example, the color red may represent something hazardous or even love as well. Symbols can also be used in the battlefield to get through a mission, crack enemy codes, and even save a life as well.
Symbolism is when concrete things are used to represent abstract ideas. Symbols can be any person, place, or thing that the reader believes represents more than what it literally is. Authors can use symbols to help the reader get fully immersed into the plot. Symbols can also help identify motifs or themes that run throughout the story. In Naomi Novik’s Throne of Jade, the Allegiance, a ship, is used as a symbol of tension between countries, specifically China and Great Britain.
Different fashions will come in and out of style but people want to be able to stand out in their own manner showing the world how they express themselves. A common form of self-expression is by getting a piercing or tattoo, something that can set a person apart from the majority. Body piercings and tattoos on women at one time were unacceptable and distasteful in the United States. However over time women having assorted types of body art has become more acceptable in society. Today young women at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, use piercings and tattoos as a form of self-expression that is vastly encouraged by peers and social media. Each woman has a different reason for why they personally want a piercing or a tattoo but are there some factors that have influenced the college community of women as a whole?

There are hundreds of different symbols authors and poets use and even more ways for them to use each symbol. If you think about it anything really can be a symbol if the author wants it to be.
