2017 Ford GT: America’s First Exotic Supercar Car manufacturers often come out with a new performance vehicle and advertise something to the extent of, “This is a racecar for the road!”. Gearheads get pumped and start hooting and hollering because that is what we all want, race performance that is ready to drive down the street. Rarely the car lives up to the hype. Over 50 years ago, in 1966, Ford made the historic first, second, and third place finish at 24 Hours at Le Mans with the now legendary GT40 model (Superformance, par. 3). Last year was the 50th anniversary of the event and Ford wanted to do it again. Ford managed to pull it off with the all-new 2017 GT. For half a million dollars you can get the style and stellar performance of …show more content…
Wolfkill from Road & Track writes “The chassis generates the most grip and cornering force when it’s appropriately loaded, such as by trail braking into a corner or aggressively accelerating out. It’s forgiving, to a point, but it also expects you to know what you are doing.” (par. 18). Steering, shifting, and throttle response is instantaneous. The car is so responsive, the driver feels like they are becoming one with car. The car also talks to the driver; they feel every move of the wheels and chassis through their seat, hands, and feet. “Ford calls the GT ‘a race car for the road,’ and for once that’s not marketing hype.” (MacKenzie, par. 4) If the normal old’ Joe thinks that all that performance can be sitting in his garage, he’d just be dreaming. The base price for the GT is $453,750 and Ford is only making 1000 of them. “That might seem a bit cavalier for the Blue Oval, seeing as how exotics such as the Ferrari 488 GTB, Lamborghini Aventador and McLaren 675LT are all less expensive. But the GT counters with its unique aerodynamic and suspension designs and those should give the GT a distinct edge at a racetrack.” Edmunds, par. 6-7). Despite the small Eco-boost engine, the twin turbochargers and performance parts put a dent in gas mileage. The GT only gets 11 mpg for city driving and 18 mpg on the highway. It’s at
Another reason that this car is a beast is that this is a car that came late in the muscle car game. The Mustang, GTO, and the Camaro are already
Ford demanded more, so Shelby made the decision to install a 7.0 liter stock engine in the revised GT40s. Enter the Mark II GT40 performance era. In two seasons, the new GT40 became a strong contender on the track. In fact, this improved Mark II won the 24 Hours of the Le Mans 4 years straight, from 1965 to 1968. The ever-dissatisfied Ford was appeased; he had a gold, silver, and bronze medal to hang on his wall. This car has frequently been called the finest vehicle ever produced by Ford. <http://www.cobragt40.co.za/cobra.htm>
When you think about Ford, an automobile will usually come to mind. Most people don’t think about the man behind that name, Henry Ford. Henry Ford was the man responsible for the Ford Motor Company (FMC). He was also the creator of the invention that changed the mass production industry, the assembly line. As you read on you will learn about Henry Ford’s life, the FMC, and the assembly line.
Ford and Chevrolet (Chevy) are in the automotive industry and have been in completion for many years start back in 1908, both companies started in the state of Michigan and have been battling it out for profits, market share and hometown bragging rights. Ford was founded in the suburb of Dearborn, Michigan and Chevy was founded in Flint, Michigan.
Sprint Cup Series cars are unique in automobile racing. The engines are powerful enough to reach speeds of over 200 mph (320 km/h), but heavy weight - coupled with a (relatively) simple aerodynamic package - makes for poor handling. Their bodies and chassis are strictly regulated to ensure parity or equality, and electronics are generally Spartan in nature.

The intricacies that are involved in turning a regular car into a “Street Racer” are many; and racers pour their souls into these magnificent machines. After seeing “the Fast and the Furious” many people have or wanted to become involved in street racing. They do not realize that this is a sport that takes knowledge, hard work, and nerve. Many of these racers have spent their lives under a car, learning the trade and improving upon it. As I have learned, this is not just a hobby; it is a way of life.
Like the Mustang GT, the Camaro SS has a huge fuel-injected V-8. The engines on each of these living beasts, pump out well over 250 horsepower. Both muscle cars have excellent 0-60 times in the five-second range and with quarter mile times within the fourteen-second range, give or take a second. There are drawbacks to every good thing. The Camaro and Mustang are primarily two seaters with minimal room in the back for an adult. Children are perfect fits, although adults can ride in the back, it makes for a very cramped ride. Both of the muscle cars are excellent examples of competitive pricing, with the Mustang GT retailing for $25,140 and the Camaro for $29,656. This just goes to show that you don't need to spend more than $75,000 for a top of the line sports car. The Camaro and Mustang out perform some of their more expensive brother and sisters like the Viper.
I own a Ford truck. So I know what I am talking about when I speak on this subject. I agree with the Ford Truck commercials. The best selling, best built trucks in America. I really can't speak to the quality of today's Ford truck, however. With all the changes in the industry, changes within Ford itself, not to mention today's disposable society...
The 1960's was a big time for muscle cars, and the Plymouth Road Runner was one of the best. It was great on the street and even better on the race track. In 1976, Plymouth made a big mistake, they made a new Volare Road Runner that wasn't even as close to as good as the others. Its engine only had 160 horsepower and it rusted so much that Plymouth had to recall it. Another car that didn’t do so well was the Delorean. Even though it was a big hit in Back to the Future, the actual car didn't meet standards. The 1980 to 1981 Delorean DMC-12 might have had gull wing doors and the body panels might have been stainless steel, but compared to five other sports cars it was the slowest
The birth of the automobile was truly something special. Once a far fetched dream is now what many people believe to be the back bone of the American economy. When people think about the automobile the name that comes to mind is most usually Henry Ford. Although he is not credited with the invention of the automobile, Henry Ford played a crucial role in the development of mass production. The automobile was first invented Europe in 1771 with a top speed of 2.3 miles per hour. A man by the name of Gottliech Daimler produced what was known as the milestone car in 1889, this vehicle traveled at 10 miles per hour (Brown, 105). Not more then a handful of these cars were produced over seas. Not many people had ever
Ford uses the placement of the three different vehicles to show this family 's loyalty to the Ford brand. First, the mother 's four door sedan: a stereotypical mom 's vehicle. As Phil Patton quotes George Butcher in his New York Times article "The perk here is size. [ ']Space is the ultimate luxury,[ '] said George Bucher, the Five Hundred 's designer.", making the Five Hundred appeal to the family that spends a lot of time traveling in the car. (2004) Second, the 1969 Mustang Cobra: a stereotypical man 's muscle car. According to the Ford Mustang Enthusiasts article "Ford Mustang History" only 867 produced and came with "A 375-horsepower "Semi-Hemi" big block with NASCAR intentions…" (2016) Ford also shows the 2005 Mustang: the more modern, younger man 's hot rod that was getting ready to appear on showroom floors. This shows their credibility on many levels of the car buyer 's scale, proving there is a vehicle for everyone.
In the fall of 1964, Ford included an entirely new Mustang engine lineup and the addition of the GT group. The 200 cu in six-cylinder engine replaced the 170 cu in six-cylinder engine, thus increasing the six-cylinder’s performance from 101 horsepower to 120 horsepower. The 289 cu in replaced the 260 cu
Henry Ford was an engineer from Detroit, Michigan who had an idea. By 1902, Ford had attempted several times to produce a gas powered vehicle, but with little capital, he realized that his attempts were futile. Ford approached a man by the name of Alexander T. Malcomson about the possibility of manufacturing an automobile. Malcomson, a friend of the family and wealthy coal merchant was reluctant at first but finally agreed with Ford, and decided to assit Ford financially with his endeavor. With Malcomsons investment and Ford's engineering skills a partnership was formed and in mid June of 1903, papers of incorporation for the Ford Motor Company were filed in Dearborn, Michigan.
Koenigsegg Agera R, McLaren F1, Bugatti Veyron SS and Lamborghini Veneno. These are some of the best, most flashiest super cars out there, and cars that are the subject of envy among many. And who can blame these guys? These supercars that have defined a generation are known for their shocking sticker prices, thus making them status symbols, they move from 0 to 60 mph in a zip, and they get attention and any time, anywhere especially for local Casanovas. Because these trimmings and promises, many people dream about owning and driving a McLaren, a Koegnisegg or Lamborghini and enjoy the magical ride. But is it worth the hype, the attention and your time?
