Technology in the 1940s
Today, in our society, most people use our abundance of technology without thinking about where any of it came from. For thousands of years man has been creating technology innovations and through the decades, we have made much progress to make our lives easier. For example, the 1910s brought about stainless steel, the 1920s brought Henry Ford´s automobile, the 1930s yielded the jet engine. But, nothing had a more profound effect on the future than the technology brought about in the 1940s.
In the 1940s the main focus of the entire world was, in fact, World War II. England, Germany, Italy, and Japan were already all involved in the war before 1940. After the United States was attacked at Pearl Harbor in 1941 by the Japanese, there was no question about our involvement in the war. We declared war on Japan on December 8, 1941. That day, President Franklin D. Roosevelt made his famous ¨A day which will live in infamy¨ speech. …show more content…

The Atomic bomb, for example, changed the face of warfare forever. Even though the United States was the only country in the world to ever use nuclear weapons in time of war, many countries have developed, tested and perfected their own Atomic Bombs. The threat of an all out nuclear war has happened before and the effect could actually wipe out the human race. The effect would be extremely devastating. The effect of penicillin is a good effect however. It changed medicine forever and lead to the development of antibiotics (Mindell). Penicillin has helped save millions of lives since it was first developed. Radar that was originally invented in WWII, has been highly developed over the years. In today's society, we have radar that can see things thousands of miles away. Radar set the foundations for modern technology we have today, such as, television and even GPS
