Establishing Wind Power

Wind is a form of solar energy so when it is used it creates electricity. Electricity is a physical phenomenon associated with fixed or moving electrons and protons. The wind power development was a step forward for the use of electricity on how to generate more electricity using the wind. The accomplishments for electricity is that Senegal used 10MW for a wind farm and they gave a positive report and is now using it since the second half of 2005. (Dodge) Another thing is during the Second World War; small wind generators were used on German U-boats to recharge submarine batteries as a fuel-conserving measure. The good thing about wind power is can produce electricity at night as well as during the day and that it is plentiful, renewable, and it reduces the greenhouse gas emissions. (ERIC) The Wind Power would be cheaper to develop electricity and it is less harm to our daily lives.

In a growing world, electricity production is becoming a problem due to coal fired electrical plants releasing millions of gallons of greenhouse gases, ecological problems with pollution in water, and health risks concerning workers and people living nearby. But with new technology and advances in renewable energy sources, wind energy is becoming one of the most popular energy sources for many states.

Wind provides a source of energy that can be collected and used to power electricity. By utilizing wind energy, companies and cities can more cleanly and efficiently supply their electricity. Turbines have been installed across the globe to supply this energy and are usually placed in open fields where wind flow is high and steady, and they are not close to residential areas. However, their distance from cities makes the process of transferring the energy more difficult and costly. Because of this additional cost, some think it is a better idea to place the turbines closer to the cities for which they provide energy. Earth, as of today, is a world run by fuels and electricity. Every man, woman, and child is directly affect by them, whether it is by its consumption, uses, or price. One of the more recent sources for these fuels and electricity isn’t actually very recent at all. Wind Energy, or Wind Power when it is being converted into a useful form of energy, has actually been around for thousands of years. We are facing an energy crisis on Earth. Burning fossil fuels are harming the atmosphere; this global warming and affects produces chemicals that hurt our body. People are starting to think about using alternative energy. Wind power would be our first choice, because it’s clean, inexhaustible and renewable. Today, wind power is mainly used in Europe. We believed wind power would be the main source of alternative energy for world use.

Wind Energy is a viable industry that has become a valuable energy source. The energy generated from wind is clean and efficient. The wind energy industry helps to ensure that electric demands are met, wildlife impact is minimal, the environment is not devastated, as well as creates new jobs during the construction of wind farms, daily operations, manufacturing components, and exporting components to foreign countries.

As mentioned above, there are a couple of factors that will help to provide some context for the discussion of wind power – we will start with a cost per megawatt (MW) comparison of wind power to some other common energy production methods. A recent article by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) provides some insight on this for the near future – giving estimates on energy costs for power plants in the year 2019, in what the paper calls the Estimated Levelized Cost of Electricity (LCOE), in US dollar per megawatt hour or $/MWh. Wind power is estimated to cost 80.3 $/MWh. When this is compared to the estimations for coal, natural gas, and nuclear power generation (estimated to cost 95.6, from 49-70, and 96.1 $/MWh respectively), it does match well against

Fossil fuels are having great impacts toward nature such as global warming and greenhouse effect. Plus, the depletion of it contributes to the rising price of petroleum. Therefore, wind power rise as it is a source of clean, non-polluting renewable energy (Nash, 2008). This type of energy generation provides us with loads of benefits environmentally and economically.

Wind power is a clean and renewable energy that, while at times unreliable, has very low upkeep cost and is growing at a rapid rate. While there is currently enough wind power to provide many times our current energy need, it is unfeasible in reality. Wind power utilizes the kinetic energy of air and uses it to power a generator to produce electricity. Even though dependence on wind power is impossible, it still can provide a strong, clean, quantity of power to supplement current energy production.

Mankind for more than 2000 years have been using the wind power for a variety of different applications. The first application was when they started to put sails into the wind, and then other applications took place such as windmills to grind grains and wind-powered pumps to pump water. Prof. James Blyth was the first one who built a windmill for the production of electricity. He installed a 10m high wind turbine from cloth in his garden in order to produce electricity for his holiday cottage. It is important to define and renewable energy and distinguish it from finite energy. Renewable is the energy that is obtained from the continuing or repetitive currents of energy occurring in the natural environment and is naturally replenished, while finite or non-renewable energy is defined as the energy that is obtained from static store that does not renew itself and remain bound unless released by human interaction (Fig.2) (Twidell, Wier 1998). This takes wind to be a renewable or alternative energy method that can be served as an alternative way to generate electricity.

Wind power is the energy collected by the wind. It is one of the oldest well-known energy sources by humans and still to this day is the most efficient and reliable efficient energy of all renewable energies. Wind power is generated by converting the kinetic throughout the atmosphere into useable electricity. Wind energy is made up by lots of sources; its generated by the rotation of the earth, the heat of the sun, the cooling effect of the oceans, temperatures between land and sea, physical effects of mountains and other natural occurring features on earth.

In the graph, there is the capital cost average, the fixed operations and maintenance average, the variable operations and maintenance average and the fuel cost average. The fixed operations and maintenance average is how much the power source needs to be checked up in its lifetime. The variable operations and maintenance average is when something unexpected happens and they have to go and fix it or check it. The wind energy is the one that costs the least money, and it falls well below average costs for alternative energy sources. The only energy source that comes close to the cheap cost of wind is the Gas Combined Cycle, however, it is still a little bit more expensive. Following the recent developments in renewable energy sources, wind turbines have been one of the primary devices focussed on. Basically, wind turbines are devices that convert the kinetic energy from the wind into electrical power for human usage. “Wind farms” are created in very windy places to harness this energy.
