It is important that the interview questions are not biased or leading, and that the questions do not cause any psychological or emotional harm. The subject will not be intentionally deceived. The questions and data interpretation have an ethical consideration to be valid and truthful for the research institution and for the scholarly body as a whole. Another consideration is the safety of the interviewee because the study wants honest and sincere answers, but it also does not want to leave the interviewee in a vulnerable state or location. The concern of a power differential between the interviewee and interviewer is important because the interviewer will be from a university, and the interviewee will be unemployed and possibly even homeless. While the …show more content…
There is also consideration for the safety of the interviewer because just like the interviewee, the study does not want to jeopardize their safety. When preparing my interview protocol, I will have a few friends or colleagues look over the questions to check for ambiguity or possible misinterpretation. I will also need to obtain approval from the UIRB to conduct the study. I will have to complete collaborative institutional training initiatives (CITI) training programs online. I will have to fill out an application form. I will then send a copy of the interview protocol, questions, and other relevant materials to the UIRB for review to help the study abide by ethical standards. I will also have to submit a letter approval for use of materials obtained from the Turlock Police Department. Finally, I will have to sign a promissory application contract that I will abide by the standards I have laid out that will be in line with ethical standards. Prior to interviewing a participant, they will be informed who I am and what the purpose of my study is, and they will be given a consent form to sign. This consent form
The two major ethical considerations that are important to address are 9.02 - Use of Assessments and 9.06 - Interpreting Assessment Results. 9.02 - Use of Assessments is particularly important because the psychologist must consider the individual’s language preference and competence. As was noted in the initial case description, Brandon’s parents are both Polish immigrants, and Brandon spoke Polish in home until he attended junior kindergarten. Although he may not have an accent, his language preference should be noted as English may not be the language he is more comfortable using. 9.06 - Interpreting Assessment Results should also be considered. Brandon’s test-taking abilities should be highlighted, as he is suspicious and ambivalent towards the psychological testing. These feelings may negatively affect his test scores, as he may try to either hide how he truly feels, or lie to make himself seem better or worse. It should also be noted that there could be other client characteristics that affect his scores as well, particularly cultural factors.
There are some times when there is no choice but to make decisions with possible ethical consequences at some point in any human services career when an ethical dilemma is faced. If one chooses not to make a decision, it is a decision itself (Keith-Spiegel & Koocher , 2010).
Informed consent forms will be used. These forms will contain information regarding the purpose of the study as well as the procedure being used.
Each participant was presented a consent form electronically, and confidentiality was maintained throughout the process. (See Appendix A.) Steps taken to ensure the confidentiality of the respondents included assigning an alias name or number to each respondent requesting such, presenting the consent form that explained to participants that they had been selected to participate in the study, and minimizing “off the record” conversations. The only identification of individual interview data in reports was by subjects’ MASSP
Ethics and ethical decision making play a large role in the duties of the coroner, everything they can affects someone or something. The main ethic would be confidentiality; the only topics that are not confidential are cause and manner of death. Any other information can only be given to legal next of kin. For example, if the media call asking about a homicide the only information the office will release is the cause and manner of death. However, if the decedent’s next of kin calls we are able to release any and all information to them.
In order to protect the subjects ethically and legally in this research project and in accordance with the ethical principles discussed above, researchers will obtain informed consent by describing all the potential benefits and risks of this study to the participants. The risks would include: 1) the possibility that the participants would have an increased level of distress and anxiety throughout the project, 2) the possibility of being identified as a participant in the research project, 3) the inconvenience of the project and opportunity costs such as using participants own gas to drive to an interview, 4) exploitation such as participants feeling pressurized to participate because of a sense of duty 5) Misrepresentation which means that
The authors explore the idea that the use of social media is prevalent among student and new nurses. There are little understood social and ethical implications surrounding this use. In the absence of a concrete understanding of the professional nursing accountability, the work and educational faculties are left to provide needed guidance for these two groups. There is limited research illuminating student nurses understanding of the ANA’s Principles for Social Networking or their accountability for their social media posts and how they relate to the ANA Code of Ethics (Englund, Chappy, Jambunathan & Gohdes, 2012). The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh addressed an increase in the unprofessional
Before the interviews commenced, each participant was reminded their participation was voluntary and they could leave at any time and they were under no obligation to answer questions which they deemed too sensitive. Once the researcher had established there were no further questions, the participants were invited to sign an informed consent form and fundamental demographic information, as detailed above in table 1, was collated with the use of a short questionnaire.
Countertransference is how therapists distort the way they perceive and react to a client (Corey, Corey, and Callanan, 2011). Therapists are expected to identify and deal with their own reactions with consultation, personal therapy, and supervision that their clients will not be negatively affected by the therapist’s problem. Personal therapy is an effective way for therapists to raise their awareness of probable areas of countertransference. A therapist’s countertransference can brighten dynamics of a client. Countertransference can show itself in many different ways.
serve as an instrument for collecting the data. So, there are many factors in each research that may affect the quality of the research findings such as the researcher’s experience, education, values, and beliefs(Yin 2003). The researcher was aware of bias like experience in previous researches, but has taken all measures to get aquatinted with the interview process by conducting pilot interview to change the structure of interviews as appropriate and gain confidence in the process. Other possible interviewee bias like not answering the question completely or forgetting to mention important points during the interview process, but recollecting this after the interview is possible in any qualitative analysis. The researcher tried to eliminate these biases
The author plans to set up interview appointments with relevant respondents during which he would administer the semi structured questionnaire containing 13 questions. It is estimated that the interview would not require more than one hour for collecting information required.
Aiken, Clarke, Sloane, Sochalski, and Silber (2002) study’s protocol was approved by the institutional review board (IRB) of the University of Pennsylvania for the utilization of patient/nurse data. Such board ensures that the study plan meets federal requirements for ethical research including that the risk to participants is minimized, informed consent was required and accurately documented, provisions were conducted to protect the privacy and confidentiality of the data. (Polit & Beck, 2004) The researchers are required to go through formal training on ethical conduct and become certified. The study showcased no signs of coercion, breach of confidentially, or lack of safeness. There are strict guidelines in order to be sponsored by the IRB, therefore it can be said that these researchers took the appropriate step to minimize, prevent and minimize
Furthermore, the researcher will be mindful of the impact of the research on the participant and therefore will take appropriate steps to minimise associated risks. However, this study will only commence once ethical approval has been obtained from the research ethics committee.
Initially, the highest responsible head of the municipal social service organization was contacted by email with information about the study and a question if hen approved for the researcher to conduct the study within the local municipal social service organization. When the highest responsible manager approved by answering the email, an email was sent out to prospective participants with a letter explaining the purpose of the study and an offer to participate. In those cases, the informant had a manager that had to be informed an email was sent to get an additional consent. Each participant was contacted and a convenient location and time for the interviews were determined when it was clear that the informants wanted was allowed to participate in the study. Before the interviews took place the informants were given oral and written information about the study. In the information, it was stated that they participated by one free will on a voluntary basis and therefore could say no to further
We began the interview and recorded all their answers through a recording device for a more profound analysis in a better environment. We used a semi-structured interview study for our research. We conducted this type of interview because we wanted the patient to feel comfortable in the interview. But aside from that, we also wanted to follow the protocol during the interviews to gather all the information we needed. Consent was obtained from all the participants.
