d. Examinations: There will be four lecture exams and there may be periodic quizzes. Lecture exams are a mix of short answer, problem solving, and multiple choice. e. Class Participation: You are expected to participate in class discussions.

11. GRADING AND OTHER METHODS FOR ASSESSING STUDENT ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE:

Grade Determination: Lecture counts 75% and lab 25% of your final course grade. You must pass BOTH lecture and lab individually to receive a passing grade for the course.

The lecture component will be graded based on performance on weekly quizzes and the four exams. Exams 1-3 will each count 19% (19 points) and the final exam will count 28% (28 points) toward the final lecture grade. The weekly quizzes will count 15% (15 points) toward the final lecture grade.

There will be no extra credit for this course.

Your laboratory grade will be determined by the lab instructor.

Make-up for a missed exam will be allowed only with the presentation of a valid excuse (I will be the judge; a doctor’s certificate will be necessary in case of ill health). It is unfair for some people to have more time to prepare for an exam than others. Make ups have to be taken within one week of the missed test.
