1 Peter 2:13-24 Exegetical Idea - Peter told the persecuted church in Asia minor to submit to unjust governing authority by following the example of Christ’s suffering.

Pedagogical Idea - When students question their faith because it feels like the world is against them, students need to show the love of God and follow His commands by honoring those in authority over them.

3 Aims

Cognitive Aim (head)
Students will learn about the church being persecuted by the Roman Government and the example Christ set for them as a suffering servant by reading 1 Peter 2:13-24.

Affective Aim (heart)
Students will be convinced of the need to stand firm in their faith through hardships by honoring their authorities.

Behavioral Aim (hands)
Students will apply the example of Christ’s suffering as they intentionally honor an individual they struggle to respect by doing an act of service for them.

When we are faced with trials in our lives, we can face many choices about how we can react. Sure we could go on being angry with those who put these trials in our lives (sometimes even God himself). When people spoke poorly of him he did not speak poorly of them in return and when he suffered he did not try an bring his trials upon others. His example is what we should seek to follow. Christ did not trust in his own actions to bring justice to the unjust situations. Instead, Christ trusted in his father to provide him the justice that he is due. Likewise, we should look and trust that God will bring justice whether it is in this world or the one to come. We don’t need to be the arbiters of justice and can place our trust in the fact that our trials will not go
