What Type of Orange Juice has the Most Vitamin C?
Introduction
Question: What type of orange juice has the most vitamin c?
Hypothesis: Freshly squeezed orange juice will have the most vitamin C compared to the other types of orange juice and drinks, because the fruit is picked fresh, and it is not stored, preserved or exposed to oxygen.
Materials i. Vitamin C Indicator Solution a) One tablespoon of cornstarch b) Water c) 250 milliliters of boiling water ii. Two percent iodine solution iii. Medicine dropper. iv. (6) Disposable pipettes. v. (1) Stirring rod. vi. Cheesecloth vii. Distilled water viii. Masking tape ix. Permanent marker x. Small funnel xi.

p. Add 10 drops of starch indicator solution. q. Set up the 50 mL buret on the the ringstand. r. Fill the buret nearly full with your iodine titration solution. s. Write down the initial volume of the iodine titration solution in the buret. t. Place the Ehrlenmeyer flask (containing the vitamin C and starch solutions) under the buret. u. Carefully release the spring clamp of the buret to add iodine solution drop by drop. v. Swirl the flask to mix in the iodine solution after each addition. w. The titration is complete when the iodine creates a distinct color change in the juice/starch solution. This color change will be harder to see than with the vitamin C solution, since the juice starts out orange. The color will change from orange to grayish brown when the endpoint is reached. If you continue to add iodine, the color will darken further. You want to note the volume of iodine added when the color first changes. x. Record the final volume of the iodine solution in the buret. y. The difference between the initial volume and the final volume is the amount of iodine titration solution needed to oxidize the vitamin C. z. Repeat this step three times. You should get results that agree within about 0.1 mL. viii. For each juice (fresh, premium, or from-concentrate), calculate the average amount of iodine needed to titrate a 20 mL
We know that that the end point of the titration is reached when, after drop after careful drop of NaOH, the solution in the flask retains its pale pink color while swirling for about 30
1. To titrate a hydrochloric acid solution of “unknown” concentration with standardized 0.5M sodium hydroxide.
Thereafter I used a pipette to meticulously drop in water up to the 250ml mark.
H. How would you prepare 10 mL of a 0.25M HCl solution if 1M HCl was available? How much
Add 3 drops of iodine solution * Shake it well,
Your mass precision should be reported to a thousandth of a gram, i.e. 0.302. (Use 3 significant figures.)
In this experiment redox-based titrimetric analysis was used to determine the amount of ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) contained in a serving of lemonade. This was done to confirm the 100 percent recommended daily allowance claimed on the package for a serving of Country Time Lemonade. The titration method used was adding a thyodene indicator to the analyte (lemonade solution) there is a visible colour change when the endpoint of the reaction between the titrant (KIO3) and the analyte occurs. The following reactions show how this titration method is viable. (Draw in reactions) KIO3 first reduced with iodide (I-) to generate iodine (I2 ) which then oxidized the ascorbic acid within the lemonade. Once all the ascorbic acid had reacted any iodine
When filling up the burette it is important that a funnel is used, however as the solution reaches the 0 mark it is ideal that the funnel be removed and a pipette used instead to reach the 0 mark, this is to achieve greater precision. During the experiment, it is important to swirl the flask continuously with one hand
1. Fill up a 200ml beaker with tap water and then pour it into the designated jar
In order to minimize errors and to "place" the solutions in the same environment, the same volume should be extracted from each solution using the syringes.
ii. The second part of the titration series involves titration of NaOH with Hydrochloric acid (HCL). Again, three reps of titration and a blank titration have to be completed. A volumetric pipet is used to measure 10.00mL of HCL into three labeled conical flasks. Then the flasks are filled with deionized water until about the 50mL mark. A buret is
Add the same amount of Benedict’s solution in each tube and for the ones that need iodine use the same amount.
The next step was to place the strip of chromatography paper on a paper towel. Then dip a capillary tube into the plant pigment extract (spinach pigment extract) provided by the teacher. The tube will fill on its own. We applied the extract to the pencil line on the paper, blew the strip dry, and repeated it three to four times until the line on the paper is a dark
Hypothesis & Rationale: Pasteurization decreases the natural level of vitamin C in orange juice because the heat may cause the chemical bonds in ascorbic acid to break down and disband.
The method of titration was discovered in late 1800’s by a french pioneer name Francois Antoine Henri Descroizilles. Titration is a process used to find concentration of an unknown compound. This process is used in labs to find information need in everyday life. For instance, titration is used during blood test and urine test to determine the concentration
