The village of Waterdown is home to approximately 19,500 people and its population is continuously growing. Waterdown can be described as an up and coming area. In the last few years the town has seen numerous residential and commercial areas pop up in what seems like a matter of days; the community is rapidly changing. I included this photo because growing up in this home is the reason why I have such a positive sense of place in regards to my neighbourhood. Fouberg et al (2015), suggests that we need look beyond physical characteristics and consider how particular places makes us feel and the meanings we hold for those places. To this day, all of my major life events have occurred in Waterdown, many in this home. I am comfortable in and around this house; everything is familiar and I know what to expect. I found myself becoming homesick during my first year at university because I was not emotionally attached to my dorm room in residence like I am to my bedroom back home. It is not about the physical aspects of my house but the sense of security it, along with the neighbourhood it is located in has provided for me.
Figure 3: Overdale Ave (taken on May 22nd at 1:57pm)
This is a photograph of my street – Overdale Avenue. This image is included because it represents the normal activity of my street. My street is quiet, there is rarely any traffic and few travel down it by foot due to lack of sidewalks and streetlights. In my opinion, the lack of activity is the reason why the occupants of Overdale Avenue are such a close knit group. Everyone has taken the time to learn about each other as we are the only people around somedays. My
Currently in Fairfax County, Virginia access to child care, and being able to afford it are often crucial determinants in deciding if both parent will work. Most families have three options for securing child care. First, parent(s) can stay at home and care for their children. Which is an option that my family and I chose because child care is so expensive we could not afford it nor do we qualify for subsidized child care. Second, parents can pay for child care out of pocket.
1. The nation is at war, and your number in the recently reinstated military draft has just come up. The problem is that, after serious reflection, you have concluded that the war is unjust. What advice might Socrates give you? Would you agree? What might you decide to do? Read the Introduction, Chapter 2 Crito and the Conclusion Chapter 40 Phaedo by Plato.
Everyone can feel, just like you and I, but there's one important question that lingers through the air. Should we really be accepting of other people?
Gordon Grice is fascinated, maybe obsessed with the black widow. He begins provocatively “ I hunt black widows. I capture it. I have found them in discarded wheels and tires and under railroads tires. I have found them in house foundations and cellars…I have found them I hospitals and in the den of the rattlesnake…. (176) In this quote Grice start with first person in place and with the repetition of “I” so that the reader can get the attention into it. Grice’s purpose in the “ Black widow” essay is to inform the audience about the widow’s life style. He shows inspiration, fascination, respect and love for widows. He furthers his purpose by using rhetorical strategies throughout his text.
Cheerleading began for me at the age of twelve. In the past I had played soccer, basketball, softball, did ballet. Basically every activity my mom could possibly put me in. All of those activities were okay, but cheerleading became something that was special to me. I first began cheering in middle school for the Hazelwood West Junior Wildcats. I cheered on the team throughout middle school literally dedicating all of my free time to cheerleading. I lived, ate, and dreamed cheer. I went on to continue cheering throughout my high school career, cheering for all Hazelwood West athletics, including: soccer, football, basketball, and wrestling. I was a hardcore dedicated athlete, and I had spirit like no other. From
2. The street in where we live is where the wealthy people live, so it’s not really crowded like in streets of the city. Besides, it’s actually distant from the city.. the noises and the poor. Basically a good place to refresh and rest your minds. To be honest, I’m not really close with our neighbours. They’re rich too and somehow, I always get the feeling they actually pretend to be nice to other people and have this evil back-up plan somewhere in their head. (Which I do not have of course!)
In the community, few trees were planted along the major street and plants were in the private residential and commercial areas. The streets and sidewalks were clean with few trash cans visible outside in the front. The majority of the people were walking their dogs, but there was no interaction with the other folks that were

The downtown area had groups of mothers and children, as well as a group of adolescents walking. The large park located near the river had several families walking around. I was born in the Oshawa Hospital and remained living in Oshawa until this year, when at the age of 24 I moved to continue my post-secondary education. My house in Oshawa is near the end of a short quiet dead end street away from all the traffic and congestion the city is known for. I have always had a passion for nature and consider myself very fortunate to have naturalized areas both right outside of my back gate, and at the end of my street. It became especially apparent to me how fortunate I was as Oshawa expanded, making it more and more difficult to find subdivisions with any sign of nature, other than a small park.
Growing up in Northern Michigan and having family members from all over the state meant that my family traveled around quite a bit to see all of the natural wonders that Michigan has to offer. From the time I was born until now I have lived in the same neighborhood (Lake Arrowhead). When I was in fifth grade my parents divorced but because both of them loved the neighborhood so much my mom kept our house and my dad built a new home about three miles away but still in the same neighborhood. I use to think this was strange that my parents were divorced but still lived in the same subdivision, as I got older I realized it was because they both shared the same love for the Lake and wanted their children to be raised by the water. This neighborhood is special for many reasons, it is a private neighborhood, there is many miles of trails for ATVs, a private pool, and most importantly there is the actual lake arrowhead lake (Buhl Lake).
‘To have quality work is harder than what most would think. Questions about ‘Why can we not just pay the people ? Or try to let other people work ? ‘It seems easy to do but is harder to carry out, we need to have people who stand up against Labor( Sweatshops) and that is what Jane Addams did. Jane Addams started off by opening hull house she was letting in European people in who had nowhere to go and no money. She stood up for not letting children labor all day long for work they shouldn't do, and even the women she stood up for not letting them work in sweatshops where they were worked too much. She even made a juvenile court for the children who did wrong, so they wouldn't have to be with adult criminals. She opened up daycares for children
In many instances, individuals neglect to acknowledge the importance of school and a higher education. Making her way toward the sidewalk, she turned right on Doveland Drive. Without a car, Anita must walk two and a half miles to reach Forest Creek Lane, the predominantly upper-class part of town. As she walked, her stomach turned as if she had ridden a fast carnival ride and no matter what she tried to calm her nerves, her attempts were futile. When she reached the street, she couldn't help but stare in awe at the beautiful houses that lined it. Some had the latest car park in front, others had empty spaces while the owner was at work. Anita imagined handsome doctors carrying briefcases and housewives wearing wearing the latest fashions. Anita, at 22, still lived with her parents in the not-so-nice part of town, where houses where becoming dalapitated and the roads and sidewalks were cracked and never fixed. Always feeling as if she didn't belong where she lived, she often imagianed what it would be like to live as other
The chapter starts off with a quote by one of the greatest poets, Robert Frost, and he says, “But God's own descent into flesh was meant as a demonstration” (Yancey 127). When I read the whole quote, I was really confused. I did not understand it. The first three lines, however, I could understand. God became human, which could be a demonstration. He took on the form of flesh because he wanted to show the world that the Savior was here to save us. The only way he can save us is if he became one of us. Therefore, God becoming a human could be a demonstration.
