As a potential first generation college student being part of the People program will help me become more knowledgeable about college experiences. Also it would increase my chances of attending a university. Living in America as a Latina I encountered a lot of challenges. Among those challenges include languages barriers, identity problems and struggles coming from a working class family. I would like be productive during my summer.
I applied for the People program for many reasons. One of my reasons is that I think it will help me increase my chances to attend a university. I also applied because it will help me experience how a college student goes through every day. Also it will help see in my own eyes how college is really like. It will
I’m applying to UA Early College because I want to be able to step into college ahead of the game. I have been an overachiever since I was little and take each chance I get handed to me. This program additionally prepares me for courses I will take when in college. It gives a more profound understanding of how classes will be and the paces they will go at.
I became a part of the EOF because I like to study and work hard in the summer. This program is helpful because college is different than high school and in college I have to work harder and do all my best to pass the summer program with a good grade. This program will help us to do well in the fall semester and they support us with many things such as tutoring, academic skills workshops. The reason that I applied for the EOF is to get to know the college that I will go to and at the end of the program if I passed I will get college credits and that’s one of the things that I am looking forward to. The EOF is designed strengthen my preparation for college level and academic success.
I came to the United States as an international student on a student visa. Working with various student organizations as the president of Nicholls International Community, I have become more comfortable with working with those of all races. After graduation, I worked professionally for four years where I met people from all walks of life. During this times, I learned advanced techniques of performing whole genome and exome sequencing, trained other employees, coordinated projects and managed meetings. Additionally, I learned to manage work conflicts and become a strong leader through proper communication. These experiences have taught me to never stop working hard. Experiencing being part of the community in Nepal to New Orleans and to New York City has really broadened my view on the world. I will be able to share these experience and skills with the diverse student body of
As a nontraditional student as well as a Sophomore my goals as well as responsibilities are different from the typical student’s. As a father of three, including a six month old balancing my professional, academic, together with my personal life has been the most challenging aspect of returning to school.
I am applying to Hofstra because I believe that the university can help me achieve my goals. From the time I was a young child, I knew I wanted to go into the medical field. While there is a long and difficult road ahead of me, I am sure that attending Hofstra University will help me go down that road.
Over the summer coming into senior year, I completed my Personal Finance (FINL 041: Financial Literacy) and Physical Education (AEROB 045: Aerobics) credit online at Brigham Young University Independent Study. Alongside taking these online courses, I worked with my Latin teacher Joshua Crumm to learn Latin 3 so that I can join AP Latin my senior year. I passed his final with an A and was allowed to join AP Latin. This is the reason why Latin 3 and the online courses are not presented in my transcript.
At first I thought that it was only a program that would tour colleges but the presentations given have explained it in much further detail and has drawn me in. I feel that this program will aid me in achieving my goals by strengthening my relationship with GOD, giving me the opportunity to learn from others - both peers and elders- about life and education and how to balance it all, showing me that there are more choices in colleges other than the major and predominantly white universities, and because it will allow for myself and others hands on experience with our desired careers. I do understand that will all these benefits that I also need to give back to the program and I will do so by ; completing all given assignments for both Campus Connection and school; staying out of any and all trouble; showing up for every event dressed appropriately; and by following all said and unsaid rules associated with the
I have many reasons why I should be part of the pathway program. As a person I feel like I have a lot of potential and I will do anything in my power to be successful. Although procrastination and bad time management was something I struggle with my whole life and it really impacted me during high school. I never though I could feel so low and devastated as I moved to the next grade and knew I was a step closer to going to the real world it progressively got worse. But for some reason I always had some fight and desire to be more even though I thought the odds were against me in the classroom and on the football field.
I wish to participate in the summer bride program because of the many opportunities it will provide that I could not have gained otherwise. Being a first generation student I have been taught since I was a young child that a higher education is crucial to making a difference in the world around me. My father was raised in Ethiopia and while he did experience it himself, he was well aware of rampant poverty and the lack of access to education for children and adults alike. Many individuals my father saw were not able to complete high school or college because of socioeconomic problems and were left with little choices for sources of income. Women and children would run up to car windows and beg for money for food in order to feed themselves
I believe there is a reason for every opportunity given to a person. I applied for the Alumni Chapter Scholarship for many reasons. The primary reason is because I believe in school pride. A pride that will carry on for the rest of one’s life. I believe the alumni of Truman State University are the basis of such a notable school. I choose Truman because helping people is my passion. The staff and students epitomized who I aspire to be--loving and caring. I hope to pursue my yearning passion through counseling. Counseling allows direct contact with people in need of help. Currently, I volunteer for many different activities in order to help those people. My personal goal has gratefully been achieved. My goal in life was to be happy, and then
Many people including ourselves were not fully aware of the D.A.C.A program and its benefits. This project allowed us to look into and learn what the D.A.C.A program is all about; therefore, allowing us to form our own views on the program. We learned that many young immigrants are benefiting from this program by being given the opportunity to get a higher education while being able to feel more at home in the only home some of them know. Many of us grew up with some of these people in our communities and in our middle schools and high schools we call these people our friends which allows us to also feel happy when we see our friends able to better them self and join use in college and mile stone. Many benefits come with DACA, such as boosting the economy, and introducing more people in to the work place.
Starting the new semester will be a different experience as to the first semester. My first semester was a beginning to a new chapter, it was my first semester in college. Everything was so different compared to high school. Some things do not change when it comes to school instead, they need to improve, and in this case, it is being successful and not getting into bad habits. As the semester proceeds, there are things I hope I do not change, so they can help me succeed. There are also many obstacles that can get in my way, but with motivation I can overcome them. Some obstacles that might stand in my way of being successful this semester are laziness, distractions, and my social life.
The first year of college comes with many changes and challenges. These changes can include the food in the cafeteria, study habits, time management skills, and much more. Every student has to find their own way to handle the first year and determine what works best for them. For many the most essential change is living away from home. Campus life provides opportunities to become a part of a unique, diversified community. With these opportunities come challenges, such as having a roommate, being away from one’s parents, and determining self-limits.
One of the biggest movements that is beginning to be implemented in many college campuses is that of the First Year Experience (FYE) program. Orientation can go only so far in making these first year students feel connected. Many institutions now build into the curriculum first-year seminars or other programs that bring small groups of students together with faculty or staff on a regular basis. These programs bring together aspects of both the academic and student affairs worlds. First Year Experience programs vary from campus to campus, but many of the characteristics that each share are tied to the common goal of helping those new freshmen feel at home and better adjusted to the expectations that are associated with being a college student.
My ambition from this program is to learn how to work with people that are not from the United States. London is one of the biggest international cities in the world and it is most likely I will be working with people that are from different countries. This will benefit me by the time I graduate from college and settling into my job, I will be dealing with the situation where I will be working with a person that is not from the country I grew up in.
