this in mind, a large portion of the difference in results is likely to be due to flaws in the experimental design. One key flaw was the data sample size, which was restricted by limited resources and time constraints. While five straight chain alcohols were tested over a spread of carbon chain lengths, only three other isomers chain length variants were available for use. By chance these three isomers all had carbon chain lengths that directly proceeded each other in a row. This meant that anomalies and individuals results would have had a larger impact on the trend line. Results were less accurate than the straight chain as individual results had a larger impact due to the smaller sample. Repeating each variable three times meant the results were more reliable than if just tested once, but in general the experiments showed a fairly large disparity between specific tests for the same variable. Theresults weighed down a particular end of the spectrum, and had a larger impact on the averages that were used for calculations. Due to this differentiation, for a credible result a larger number of tests should be done. As the carbon chain length increased another common problem experienced was incomplete reactions, which meant there was a lot of potential energy in the form of soot. This carbon substances has a significantly higher potential energy which is released when the carbon reacts into carbon dioxide, and therefore the incomplete reactions meant a lot of the heat energy
Procedure: Using distilled water, premeasured containers and objects determine displacement of fluids and density of objects. Use ice and heat measure temperatures in Celsius, Fahrenheit and Kelvin.
Students will carefully observe acts of aggression and prosocial behavior on television, report their observations, and analyze their data to draw conclusions.
2. _C____ Divide your subjects in half. One group receives one treatment of the independent variable and the other group receives a different treatment of the independent variable. Subjects were all told they were going to see a video of a therapist's session after which they would rate the quality of the session. The groups differed in that the subjects in one group were told that prior evaluations indicated that the therapist was effective whereas subjects in the other group were told that the evaluations indicated the therapist was not effective. These different subjects were used for the two levels of the independent variable: subjects were in either the "effective therapist" or the "ineffective therapist" condition.
C. An unknown, rectangular substance measures 3.6 cm high, 4.21 cm long, and 1.17 cm wide.
Corresponding to the previous experiment, this week’s experiment measures the participants’ ability to conduct basic, fundamental laboratory procedures. These procedures revolve around scientific measurements of volume, mass, and density. Unlike last week’s activity, this week’s experiment had a few modifications. In addition to distilled water, saltwater and an unknown substance were added. There was a total of five substances to choose from; Hexane, Methanol, Ethyl acetate, Ethylene glycol, and Dichloromethane. Part C, the unknown liquid number was four, which the average density was 0.789 gmL-1, and from looking at the chart the unknown identity was methanol. Part A, the temperature of the water was 20 oC, which was in front of the class,
8. The people who make up this article is the students from 7 different universities. It was rather representative because they were from universities that were located across the US, not just from one specific area. This was a unsystematic selection procedure because they weren’t from specific groups or students, just casual students from the seven different universities which created a representative sample of a big population.
Exercise 1: Cell Transport Mechanisms and Permeability: Activity 2: Simulated Facilitated Diffusion Lab Report Pre-lab Quiz Results You scored 100% by answering 4 out of 4 questions correctly. 1. Molecules need a carrier protein to help them move across a membrane because You correctly answered: d. they are lipid insoluble or they are too large. 2. Which of the following is true of facilitated diffusion? You correctly answered: c. Movement is passive and down a concentration gradient. 3. Examples of solutes that might require facilitated diffusion include You correctly answered: d. all of the above. 4. Which of the following would not affect the rate of facilitated diffusion? You correctly answered: a. the amount of intracellular ATP
To improve the experiment, the methodology could be improved by having an efficient calorimeter to retain as much heat as possible, rather than just a tin can. Additionally, more trials for each of the experiments could be conducted to ensure correct and precise data is collected to determine more accurate conclusions.
The author Joelle Charbonneau wrote the book The Testing. An amusing fact about Joelle is that she taught many students how to sing. In an article Joelle states “My students are a wonderful source of inspiration and continue to teach me life while I teach them about singing” (Charbonneau… New York Times). The Testing by Joelle Charbonneau is about a girl named Cia who is selected to go through a testing program to test her knowledge and see if she can attend a certain college. Cia has many roadblocks, but that does not stop her from doing her best. People should recommend this book because of its connection to the article titled New Surveillance Technology. The message of this book is that knowledge is power, so don’t betray it.
On Tuesday the 20th of September, a presentation was required of all students to show a video of individual experiments after a week was given on the day of the original assigning. Given the task of performing an experiment in order to become acquainted with the Scientific method, students of Biology 621A were required to record their experimentations in full - providing a question to be answered, constructing a hypothesis, designing an experiment that would aid in the proving (or disproving) of the hypothesis and collecting the data found from the experiment. These would go on to be graded based on their overall presentation quality, and content in regards to the mastery of the scientific method while proving its functionality and existence in scientific experiments no matter how small, while determining factors like independent or dependant variables.
Also, the way scientists experiment on helpless animals is equivalent to the way WICKED experiments on clueless kids. Editing their minds and putting them through harsh situations which can alter how they react to certain things and make them adapt to different harsher living in the future. Even though, some may die in the long run it would save the future society. If they did not do this than the future population would be smaller and weaker. Therefore, without putting these kids through grim situations they would not know how to protect themselves, though they would be saving them from existent things it would not be a permanent cure. Although saving a greater majority would be superlative, it would be prerequisite to sacrifice a few, if
So my guess was correct again. The blue water did slowly enter the red water.
This study will be comprise two experiments. The animal trials will be conducted at the Experiment Research Station and the laboratory work in the facilities of the Institute of Animal Science, University of Hohenheim. Field studies will not be included.
“After thirty years of feminism, I look at the society in which I live. What has gone wrong? I ask myself. Though I wouldn't want to return to the situation women were placed in before this current feminist movement, it is also clear to me that many conditions of our lives have gotten worse, not better, since the onset of feminism,” (Gross np). From the words of Rita M. Gross in “What Went Wrong? Feminism and Freedom from the Prison of Gender Roles” featured in Cross Currents, the way feminism has evolved is a problem in which a new focus for feminism is needed for our generation to prosper. With the rise in modern feminism views and active protests, we, as a society, should not focus on defining equality among the sexes, but rather embrace
The results that were revealed were thought to be accurate and reliable as many factors were controlled to enable the best quality. The results that a constant rise in the combustion occurred as each alcohol’s carbon chain increased with one exception indicates that the reliability of this experiment has to be examined. With such a high percentage error from these results means they cant be definitive. Also only three trials were conducted on the five different alcohols. If the experiment were to be conducted again I would conduct five trials on each alcohol to get a better average.
