The President of the United States of America often faces many challenges in his work of area as a leader. More often than not, these powerful chiefs have very notable characteristics that help them overcome those problems. In the past, Presidents have had to be headstrong, brave, the ability to be empathetic towards their people, and many more. Today, our country holds a rich diversity of civilians from many nations. Some may be here illegally, but they are here. In our present times, we need a new president to represent the new generation of Americans, and with that comes a variety of characteristics that will lead our new and improved country. Franklin D. Roosevelt was one of many great American Presidents with his ability to have a curious mind. Most might agree that was his best trait. One that our future president needs to have acquired in our order to be willing to accept new and benign ideas. In other words, open-mindedness. We cannot have a president who only gathers ideas that best suit him/her. Our new leader will have to make decisions based on the people to make sure that they do well to all. Racism in our country has caused massive arguments to break out. Sides have been chosen, places conquered, and names called out. It is up to the president to listen to all sides of the story for him to ensure every decision he makes will be the best. …show more content…
So a leader would not be a leader without an important trait such as...leadership. Whoever our new president will be will have a lot on his/her chest with a country of 323,800,000 civilians. As a libertarian, many citizens might find fuel to burn in my political views, but at least I think of what would be best for the country and not just myself. The unlucky person who will be the key to hold this powerful position in our country will have above average-normal intelligence, and minimal organizational
In addition to Theodore Roosevelt’s visionary leadership characteristics, he also depicted many ethical leadership traits. An unwavering example of this was his ability to be a critical thinker by using intellectual courage. Intellectual courage is being able to foster the ability to consider ideas that are considered absurd or different based on our viewpoints or beliefs and rationally justify them (BCEE, 2017, pg. 15). A perfect example of this attribute when Roosevelt had a “vision to increase the influence and prestige of the United States on the world and develop the country into a world power. His diplomatic maxim was to “speak softly and carry a big stick,” and he maintained that a chief executive must be willing to use force when necessary while practicing the art of persuasion” (Milkis, n.d.). During the Spanish-American war, the United States gained control of the Philippines from Spain. Roosevelt was forced to enact policy to govern the island and appointed William Taft for this position. Roosevelt was able to foresee the benefit of enacting a civil government to further the democratic process for the island (Milkis, n.d.).
Mister Theodore Roosevelt, a man of reputation and influence, dominion and power, superiority and supremacy. No man embodied Manifest Destiny so exactly: winning a war, becoming a hero and taking our country’s powers to international borders. From Governor of New York, the Presidential Seat, and beyond, Mister Theodore Roosevelt changed from an average American to the President of the United States of America, and finally to a status of legendary inspiration. His actions paved a path for aspirants and nobodies alike, to do something and become phenomenal beings in their own right!
President Roosevelt went into office when the nation was in the middle of the "Great Depression". Roosevelt was very brave to be president when a lot people had no jobs and no money and those who didn’t use it in the right way. Churchill had to unite a government that was at war with themselves throughout World War 2 Prime Minister Churchill created a new government the government that didn’t fight with themselves fight with themselves, a government that would win the war.
The biggest reason of why these presidents are famous is that they were both involved in two World Wars. Even though World War One started in 1914, the U.S. was not involved in the war at all until American passengers were killed on a ship off the coast of Ireland. After the war, Wilson created the League of Nations, which his famously presented the fourteen points. These points made some changes around Europe, but it did not stop the U.S. to be involved in another World War. Eventually, World War Two would happen. Similar to the First World War, the United States was not involved from the beginning. However, the attack on Pearl Harbor changed everything. The United States once again found itself in a World War. During the war, the United States
Throughout history we have had a plethora of people that were called “a leader” in the public’s eyes. Of course, when a leader steps up to the plate; they will have “Haters” as Maya Angelou stated. Yet, are they a True Leader, or an infamous leader? Weather a true, or infamous the traits of that leader had to appeal to the particular public to gain that popularity. A leader that I look up to is none other than Theodore Roosevelt a.k.a Teddy! Now President Roosevelt has shown great characteristics of a great leader. The traits that he that stood out the strongest in my opinion was honesty, his integrity, and in a way him being a humanitarian. The beginning of the 1900’s would have been as successful if it wasn’t for President Roosevelt.
Franklin Roosevelt stated that, "The only thing we need to fear is fear itself." This is showing America that he is not afraid of anyone or thing and that he is determined to fix America in its bad state. Through his New Deal and his ways of keeping the U.S. out of fighting against the Europeans he was fixing America. Within his First hundred days he proposed, and congress enacted a program to bring back agriculture and businesses. His programs helped to bring America back from the brink of collapsing to a somewhat healthy state. He also enlisted "social security" which taxed the rich even more to help everyone else out in the long run. Franklin Roosevelt was a very intelligent.
No matter the size of the group, every group has a figure that leads them. Leaders need to have leadership; leadership are the skills that a leader uses to move a group forward. It propels the group to move in the right direction. Presidents are leaders of a country, an enormous group, a group nonetheless. A president has to have a transparent leadership in order for the people of America to trust him, if his leadership skills are lackluster, the people will begin to doubt his ability to move the country forward. In this paper, I will try to explore the type of leadership that is needed for the next president of America, what can be accomplished with great leadership skills and how depending the leadership of the next president, will affect
Accepting the Presidency at the profundity of the Great Depression, Franklin D. Roosevelt helped the American individuals recover confidence in themselves. He brought trust as he guaranteed immediate, incredible activity, and declared in his Inaugural Address, "the only thing we have to fear is fear itself." Roosevelt confronted the best emergency in American history since the Civil War. All things considered, Roosevelt, without any hesitation, helped the U.S. through the Great Depression, World War II, and enormously stretched the services of the national government through a progression of developments and plans known as the New Deal.
Stanley Huffy explains that “[i]t is not the position that makes the leader, but the leader who makes the position.” Even though an individual may hold a specific position, it does not mean he or she is equipped for the tasks involved. Many people in the community continue to be blind to the shortcomings of presidential candidate Donald J. Trump. The president should not only comprehend what occurs in the United States political system but should also be an honest and an inspirational person. The leader of our country should be an individual who inspires a vision for the future, motivates people to action, delivers on their promises, and helps the people by leading. These roles can help the leader achieve their vision (MindTools). A president, is someone who should be confident, but humble as well. This is because the leader of the country should believe in him or herself and stand up for the rights they believe in but should also accept when he or she is wrong. Trump fails to meet these criteria. According to New York Times most of Trumps votes are coming from “Republicans who are less affluent, less educated and less likely to turn out to vote.” Although he is on the way to capturing the republican nomination, Donald Trump should not be president because he is ignorant to the national and foreign policy, dishonest, and a poor role model.
Early Life/ Education- Franklin D. Roosevelt was born on January 30,1882 to a rich family. The Roosevelt Family has only been well know ( popular) having made fortune and trade. He was an only child. Growing up he had a lot of privileges and a sense of self importance. He was educated by tutors and governess until the age of 14. In 1886 Franklin attended the school of Groton, a school for boys, in massachusetts. Franklin didn't really fit in with the other in school, and the school he went to focus a lot on athletic and he wasn't very athletic him self. After Franklin Graduated from Groton he attended Harvard University. He received his degree in only three years.
“…History is created by people and the role of the individual cannot be denied, even though it needs to be seen in a historical context. While there are limits to the role played by individuals, might the part they play in critical circumstances be decisive in the chain of causality?” Pertaining to this ‘Great Man Theory’ it can be said that Franklin Delano Roosevelt upheld his victorious and highly regarded government through means of social, economic and political reforms, as well as ambitious personal and strategic decisions that have successfully remained influential to American society today and maintained his image as a prominent historic leader.
Franklin D. Roosevelt’s presidency was characterized by large-scale domestic reform and the threat, and eventual involvement, in World War II. After World War I, there was no hiding from the necessity of foreign policy, which is “a government’s strategy in dealing with other nations” (___). The most significant policy in international relations of Franklin Roosevelt’s administration was the of the Good Neighbor Policy in 1933. There were several factors that contributed to the development of this policy during that particular time period and also individuals who aided in its creation and implementation.
For America to remain strong, it must have a president capable of leading it to greatness. As a free country, a delicate balance between power and individual must be sought. Free man to, have a need of leadership. A government that is to be controlled by man can be difficult to run because you must first keep the governed in line; and in the next place oblige it to control itself. And the leadership from the president has helped America shape a successful democracy. To grasp the quality of this, we must first understand the groups and men that he provides guidance over.
Established, frugal, intelligent, bold, resourceful, honest; all of these adjectives should come to mind when trying to describe the qualities one must posses to be an effective president. Anyone falling short of these simple, yet, demanding words would probably lead to utter failure as an established leader of any kind. America is a prime example of how poor leadership can ruin a country. Our nation started from nothing, but we had a many remarkable leaders that gradually formed it into something magnificent and highly respected. Sadly, with just a few bad decisions for leaders, our country has taken a turn for the worst. America needs someone who will stand firm in the right direction and get our nation back on track. In the upcoming 2016 Presidential Election, one potential candidate stands out: Donald Trump. He is a very blunt man who does not care about political correctness and he
There are many aspects needed to become a great leader. Before a voter can decide on a candidate, certain attributes are deliberated. Individuals want to know if a candidate possesses strong leadership skills that are necessary to lead a country. Some voters have a preconceived notion that a President has already obtained the abilities to lead. However, history has proved past presidents have lacked the skills to successfully lead the country. Presidents from Franklin D. Roosevelt and onward have helped define the requirements of leadership. Ideally, a president should be required to have leadership skills and possess strengths and positive qualities in order to have a successful term. Some believe, the president elect Donald Trump lacks these
