Baughman, Michael Prof Fullinghim Comp 2 7:00 The “Consumerist” Empire I find the essay “From Inside The Mouse: Work and Play at Disney World” a well worded essay, however I must disagree with Willis on the topic of Disney being consumerist, Disney has always put a monumental amount of time and money in designing, imagining and creating a fun space where both the little tikes and the parents can play. Aunts and uncles, Moms and dads and grandmas and grandpas can all have a fun time at a Disney theme park because they provide a general environment that any family can mold into any type of vacation for all family types, whether it’s go, go,go or to just relax in the sun for a few days and take in all of the glorious atmosphere in. Walt Disney created some of the greatest and most advanced technology ever. Much of his Technology is still here today. Until he created Disneyland there were no other theme parks of it’s kind. He didn’t stop there he created Disney World one of the biggest theme parks ever. No matter what it was Walt always thought he could do better.

Disney has created the idea of ‘imagination’ in American society and perpetuates it in everything America does and influences everything America stands. Imagine entering a place where the air smells like fresh homemade cookies, the lush green trees are shaped like animated characters, and the sidewalks are always squeaky clean. The employees or “cast members” appear to be clean-cut, happy, wholesome, all-American people. This is the image Walt Disney World provides for its guests. But what goes on behind the scenes at Disney? Until a person has worked for the “big mouse” she won’t be able to understand the torture that can go on for employees. I’ve been in that Disney “cult,” part of the “wonderful world of Disney.”
