Ever since I was a freshman in High School I knew I wanted to be a Police Officer. It started as an interest in doing the right thing. I picked up trash along the sides of roads once the snow melted, if I got more change back from a cashier, I would return the extra money to them. I understood the importance of giving back. My father and grandfather both were police officers, both worked for St. Paul. They're my main inspiration when it comes to being a police officer. I grew up idolizing their work and being impressed with how much they did for their job and community. I hope to become half the officer that they were. In High School I took many classes that talked about law: Criminal Law, Criminology, Sociology, and Political Science. My
As a Deputy Constable our main focus is the civil side of the criminal justice system. As a Deputy, I serve Civil Citations by which a plaintiff gives a defendant notice of suit. My duties as Constable Deputy also extend to the following. Executing and returning writs of possession or restitution, serving orders of protection, serving civil and criminal summons along with subpoenas. In addition, we act as Bailiffs to the courts. As a Constable Deputy we have the same powers as a police officer, however we act within our specific precinct.

In order to combat these problems and have a positive future in the criminal justice system, everyone must work together on a bigger scale.
1. As an individual I have always been appreciative of front line responders and their willingness to step in and assist individuals in a time of need. Witnessing this has inspired me to pursue a career in law enforcement and criminal justice. Since I was a child I have always had an interest in law enforcement. A lot of my family has experience in this field including two police officers. Originally I had planned to go to Waldorf University and major in criminal justice to become a police officer. I saw many two faced/unreasonable officers throughout my years of growing up that I wanted to do something different. I remember hearing about the cases on tv and thinking, hey, I can make a difference. I wanted to become a police officer to show people that not
From a very young age I have wanted to pursue a career in Law Enforcement. However, as time went on my parents said I would change my mind on what I wanted to be at least a hundred times before finally deciding on what I wanted to do, but for me the dream has stayed the same. For me getting a bachelor's degree in Law & Justice is the next step in making that dream a reality.
Higher education has become more valuable in many occupations and careers. Law enforcement is one of them, even though it is a slow transition from not requiring college education. Some of the requirements for a law enforcement officer is to have advanced writing skills, think critically, work in a high-pressure environment, and effectively communicate with citizens that they are protecting and serving. These skills can be learned on a job through training and experience, but they are also thought in college through homework, exercises, communication with other students, and required reading material by professors. When hiring college graduates with a four-year degree, they already possess many of the qualities and attributes that are highly
I grew-up watching my father advance himself to the rank of Colonel in the Marine Corps. It was because of him I developed a strong desire to be part of a brotherhood. By the time I got to college I knew I wanted a career that was structured similarly to the military, but with opportunities to serve my community at a local level. I started my educational career at Hillsborough Community College, where I received my associate’s degree and continued onto the University of South Florida, where I received a bachelor’s degree in Criminology.
There are many different career paths that make up the professional field of Law Enforcement in this country and around the world. It has been a dream of mine to be part something that is bigger than myself, that offers the opportunity to help the community I live in. To me, Law Enforcement offers me that chance. It is also the closest thing to the military that I believe will allow me to put to use what I have learned and experienced from my time in the U.S. Army. Finding the right fit for my skills and knowledge is a challenge that I look forward to. The research into the different fields of Law Enforcement provided me with a better sense of what I have to look forward to and what I believe to be the
Police officers are responsible for protecting people and property. Related job titles include Sheriffs and sheriffs deputy, detectives, and state police officers. However all of these job titles have similar duties for example they are all responsible for the protection of people and property. These job titles might be very similar but they do differ in many ways. Police officers patrol the city issuing citations keeping the peace and conduct traffic stops. Sheriff 's and deputies hold practically the same duties as police officers but do so for the entire county. A state police officer could also be addressed as a state trooper. These officers usually patrol highways and issue citations and are frequently called for comprehensive law enforcement services. Detective is the title that differs from the others the most. Detectives aren 't in uniform. They investigate crime scenes and find evidence for criminal cases. Detectives conduct interviews, observe activities of suspects, and also participate in raids. Although a normal police officer does not earn as much income as related titles it is still a very demanding and dangerous job.

The debate on the value of higher education for police officers continues to be one of the most persistent and pervasive issues in policing. Although there are several different interpretations of what constitutes a professional police officer there appears to be a consensus about the need for professionalism in policing. Researchers have attempted to measure performance through such variables as officer attitude, discretion, ethics, cynicism, decision-making, and use of deadly force. Despite the different measures of performance used, several studies have reported a positive relationship between educations and "job performance" found that college-educated officers consistently received higher performance ratings from supervisors. One of the main experiences that got me interested in pursuing a law enforcement career happened throughout my childhood. Born and raised in Mexico City why did I end up living in San Diego? And that is because of the lack of insecurity that I and my family felt while living in Mexico for 12 years. Being young and listening to all the violence that was going on even a few streets away from home definitely affected me while growing up. My worst experience was when I saw my mom coming home shaking and crying because she had
