What do you think of when you hear the word “genetically modified”? Do you think of how they are harmful and have no regulations or do you think of how they help improve our health and increase food produced. I’m betting it is the first one because the media has manipulated us into believing these horrible things about GMO’s without any real scientific evidence. The media right untrue articles because they desire money and will do no matter what to get, even lying.
I’m sure you heard of GMO’s, but do you really understand what they are. GMO’s, also known as genetically modified organisms, denotes organism’s with DNA has been altered and does not occur through mating or in nature (WHO). The media portrays GMO’s in this negative light …show more content…

In fact, Dr. Neil DeGrasse Tyson, a highly educated astrophysicist, said that “practically every food you buy in a store for consumption, by humans, is genetically modified food” (Tyson).
In contrast to popular beliefs, there are in fact regulations and standards that a GMO must satisfy (FDA). The U.S. Food and Drug Administration regulates the food consumed and medicine prescribed for consumers (FDA). In order for a company to research, produce or market a drug or food they must first do extensive research and test the product on animals to ensure its safeness and effectiveness (FDA). If the product does not meet the health and safety standards, regardless of its manufacturing method, the item is not sold (FDA).
In addition, the media uses trickery to portray GMO’s as something dangerous and should be avoided at all cost which has influenced you to believe their dishonesty. The purpose of GMO’s is to enhance our life, not harm it. This may be through creating medicines for disease, increase crop yield, produce food with higher nutritional value and much more. Article titles such as “Why GMOs Can Never Be Safe scare the public into believing GMO’s are bad even though the media does not have sufficient evidence to support these claims (Mercola).
