In high school I was involved in a lot of community service. I participated in a group that was focused mainly on preserving the environment. Every year, our school celebrates Earth Day, which is a huge event that is held every year in April to celebrate the earth and the environment. Our group was actually the head of the celebration. Hensler’s Nursery donates hundreds of baby trees to our school every year. We go and dig up the trees, get them ready to be handed out and then hand them out, every year. We also put on a program at the elementary school every year teaching students about the environment and why it is important to protect the environment. We always passed out either baby pine trees or plum trees. We teach the kids how to …show more content…
It was a lot of fun and we got to raise money for a good cause. On the last day of the program we would encourage everyone to wear pink, we even got most guys to wear pink to support the cause! We would hold class competitions to see how many people could dress up in pink, we had a lot of enthusiastic people who wore tutus and crazy outfits. We usually gave the winning class an ice cream treat at lunch, which was donated by the school to the winners to support our cause. We would also have a pep rally with a short presentation on breast cancer awareness and before the end of the day we would actually take a photo of every student who wore pink for the event. We even got teachers to participate in the event, wearing pink and getting their face painted. It was really nice to see people come together to support a great cause.
I had an amazing teacher in high school Mrs. Awald. She was the sponsor for our group. Her grandson, Caleb, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Mrs. Awald and some other people came up with a charity called iCaleb&Co. it is a nonprofit organization that raises money to give children in South Bend Memorial and Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne an iPad. They try to raise money to give each child who is undergoing treatment, a new iPad to keep them occupied during their recovery. It is a great program. Each year our group would do several events to raise money
I have been going to school since I was four years old and, that means that I have been attending school twenty to twenty two years, including kindergarten, middle school, high school and now college. As every student, I had my ups and downs in school; I had some failures and some successes. One of the failures that affected me the most and that I will always remember was the time that I was in high school during my junior year. I failed almost all my classes and, I only passed two classes and with a C. In the other hand I had some really good success. The most recent one and the one that I am still happy about is getting my Family Development Credential. We learn from our mistakes and also from our successes, these two times in my life
So far, all throughout high school, I have done my best in school. I strive to get the best grades I can. There are many opportunities out there, college related, that many people out of high school don’t have. I make sure I take advantage of these opportunities because all the hard work will be very rewarding in the end. During my sophomore year of high school, I had the chance to get into a four-year program that would have me take college classes while still in high school. Also, I would be able to job shadow different careers, practice interviewing skills, and get an internship. By the end of this program I would have an associate’s degree and have developed very useful skills necessary for a career. This whole program would be free.
I dance 20 hours a week, and found it very hard to keep up with my school work. Many other students have the same problem with their after school activity. If we didn’t have the option of attending a K12 high school, there would be fewer up and coming athletes in the world. In this essay, I am going to tell you why it is a good idea to have a transfer offer from public high school to online high school. There can also be many issues that teens face in completing their school work on time, and correctly. Some students do not have time to do their work in the best effort and skills that they can do, which brings their grade and self-esteem down in a flash if they do one thing incorrectly. Some students do not have time to do school work at
Throughout my four years of high school, I have participated in the Red Cross club. During my time there, I've helped my local community and communties else where. I have helped raise money for premature babies with the March of Dimes, I have cleaned the woods around my town, and I have taught little elemetary school kids about water and bus safety. Whether it was organizing books in the library or mangaing a game booth for less foruntiate kids, one of biggest highlight of my four years at high school has been helping my
I took part in a school club, Habitat for Humanity (HFH), for two years since 10th grade. During the years, I participated in a regularly scheduled bake sales, twice every semester, and volunteered in activities hosted by Habitat for Humanity. HFH held two large events annually, which were festivals and fashion shows in school. I volunteered in these events every year and helped to raise funds that were sent to Cambodia to provide a clean water supply. Furthermore, I went on a voluntary trip to Cambodia to help build houses for people in need. For a week, 20 members of HFH, including myself, was able to help build restrooms at a school located in the rural areas of Siem Reap.
In the years of 2012-2013, Oklahoma 's percent of students graduating with a high school diploma was 84.8%. In 2012-2013, the graduation rate was at one of the highest points it has ever been at. It is crazy to think that over 1.2 million students drop out every year just in the United States. That is a student ever 26 seconds or you could think of it like 7,000 students a day. A student that gets a high school diploma but does not go to college is going to be doing better than students that drop out. The majority of jobs will not hire you if you don 't simply have a high school diploma. The income of college degrees, what work expects from people, and how it all relates to high school is important in todays society.
once in college, Rose explained “all in all there was a dreary impotence to the years, and isolation, and a deep sadness about my father” (44).
During our meeting on March 23th, we discussed options to increase enrollment in the Early Degree Program (EDP). However, we quickly realized that low-income EDP students face a financial hardship when attending college without being eligible for the FAFSA. At this meeting, we decided that the best way to enroll more EDP students is to offer additional financial aid.
Over the last few years of high school I feel like I changed in a positive way because in the beginning of my freshmen year of high school, I didn’t really think of how much my grades would affect my chances of graduating and going to college. I didn’t think I would make it this far and it didn’t matter to me because dropping out and getting a GED seemed like an easy way out for me at the time. But I realized that life could be hard out there when all you’ll have is GED that gets you little job opportunities when you could just finish school, work on getting your diploma and maybe go to college to study for what you’d want to do for a career that can get you tons of job opportunities because of the experience you have.
I was sure when I graduated high school I was ready for college. My senior year in high
dad had been hired at a company nearby, and Saline was said to be one of the best school districts in the state. At Saline, I grew in my love of reading and most everything else (expect for math), and the classes offered there challenged me to work hard. In high school, I enrolled in all the honors courses I could, taking math a year above the majority of my class and studying hard. My school offered many AP classes, and because of the classes I took there, I entered IUS in my first year as a sophomore according to my credits. No matter what, I know education is important to me and that I will continue in my education for many years. I’m good at school, though sometimes I worry that it’s not so much that I am intelligent than it is that I know how to give people what they want.
I have participated in Acts of Random Kindness club, whose purpose has been to spread positivity in the school environment. High school students encounter a variety of emotions such as anxiety, stress, and drama. Hence, we have done uplifting projects such as putting nice complements inside books. We have also reached out to teachers by delivering messages of appreciation to their mailboxes. Furthermore, I have partaken in Colts for Animals, whose motive was to spread student awareness in regards to animal cruelty. We invited guest a few times speakers to talk about issues relating to animal abuse. Moreover, as a member of Garden club, I have helped in beautifying our campus from watering plants to picking out the weeds to digging up for new plants.
The normal teenager or even preteen goes through a phase in their life when their parents become annoying and desperately want to be grown and on their own. They feel like their parents just nag and fuss for the heck of it. Though I use to think my mom was just nagging for no reason very often, I now realize that everything she told me was beneficial and that I would need it later in life.
“The future belongs to the nation that best educates its citizens. We have everything we need to be that nation … and yet, despite resources that are unmatched anywhere in the world, we have let our grades slip, our schools crumble, our teacher’s quality fall short and other nations outpace us”-President Obama (Splitt).
High school and college are both important periods in a student’s life. It’s the two most important stages in which students prepare to be professional in their studies. In high school students prepare to be successful in college. In college students prepare to be professionals in their careers. Although high school and college each serve as a place for preparation for students they are very different in scheduling, grading, and paying their education.
