I believe group performance-based projects supports student motivation by promoting teamwork. I am a firm believer that a student learns and works better through team driven activities. The students are placed in mix reading levels cooperative groups to better assist their performance in lessons/activities. When students are placed into cooperative groups, all learning styles can be supported. The students work alongside each other despite their reading levels and work to guide each other on an assignment/project. In addition, group performance-based projects supports team building and partnership workmanship.
As previously mention, one technique that I utilize in my own classroom to support motivation in writing and reading is literature
When students learn about subjects they are familiar with, it allows the content area being taught to become meaningful. As mentioned in Chapter 6, on page 149, motivation to read can come because they are interested in the content. When students are interested in the content they are reading, their needs are being met, and they will be well prepared for a successful literacy experience.
The movie “Keeping the Promise”, shows examples of how colonial life was like in the 1600’s. For example, in the movie, it showed how life was like with the Fever/Disease when James died because of the fever also how the family could not board the ship because the town they came from had the fever. Moreover, the conflicts with the Indians described in the movie relate back to how it was in real life during that time. Indians didn’t like the white men in the movie just like in real life. The Indians described how white men raided their village, one man was Loomis.
I have been in many group project where the group decides based on the ideas that not always the best because not everyone says their idea. When I am in a group project I try to ask everyone’s opinion because someone could have a brilliant idea or talent to make the project awesome. I see where going though and yeah group projects is also the main area I have seen groupthink happen.
If you have a very negative environment or intense environment in our classroom kids don't learn as well as they do in a positive environment. Group projects allow students to work together with their peers and talk amongst themselves as one but do it while getting the knowledge and materials they need to learn. This causes the students to be less nervous when working with other and that makes the classroom they are in a more positive setting for them. I can speak from experience and I would rather work on a project with more than one person rather
This also takes the form of creating motivation in my students by allowing them to see how their learning relates to their lives outside my classroom. Reading and writing assignments allow for students to individualize their assignments so the learning can be applied outside the
Even though I start off quiet, and may have problems with procrastination,. I should do well on this group projects long as I work in a small group where the work is disturbed evenly. Plus I am a very organized when it comes to group projects and writing essays. I take one step at a time and work with my group members and cooperate with distributing the work into four parts. Myer Briggs is known for the indicator test. Myer Briggs talks about how people take these test to indicate what type of personality they have. This test was made to see how people have their own personalities and understand them Myer Briggs developed a list for each personality: Introvert-Extravert, Sensing-Intuitive, Thinking- Feeling, Perceiving- Judging. All of these
World War I happened in 1914-1918. It was a big destruction. Hundreds of thousands died in single battle, while thirty million died as a result of the war. Progressives believed that new ideas and honest, efficient government could bring about social justice. Many progressives were from all political parties, social classes, ethnic group, and religion. Imperialism is a policy which strong nations extend their political, military, and economic control over weaker territories. The growing trend to emphasize science and secular values over traditional ideas about religion became known as modernism. Following European success, Japan and the United States also began to consider the benefits of imperialism, the policy where strong nations extend
Overall, the performance was okay, however, there were many flaws. My own performance was not at all perfect because I definitely could have done a lot better. I should have taken more action to actually lead the group more, but instead I was a little shy because of the fact that I was the youngest. For example, I should have pushed the group to rehearse more, so we would have been better at our lines. However, I was not the strongest leader and did not do so. In my performance I should have been louder and projected my voice more and I should have done more acting instead of standing. I could have also spoke a little deeper to sound like a boy, but I did not think about that and worried more about my lines than I did the quality of what I was saying.
I think this is the perfect time for me to be involved in a team-based research project. I have enough background knowledge to work with others to successfully carry out research. Yet, on the other side of things, much more still remains in my study of anthropology. The new skills I will gain from this research experience will prove to be beneficial as I continue my education and I eventually run independent research projects. By working with a team to conduct anthropological research, I will be more prepared to complete independent anthropological research in the future and after completing the project, I will be able to appreciate the ethnographies of others more fully.
Motivation will be key for my literacy program. I know that if the students are highly motivated then they will learn more readily. I will build motivation in my classroom by having a positive, warm learning environment. I will have a variety of literature of different genres and of different levels within my classroom. I will also have a variety of areas and centers for the students to participate in.
When I first find out that there’s a group project, I wanted to work with people that I know are responsible, capable of doing the assignments, respectful, and don’t procrastinate. I did not want to work with negative people at all I’ve learned from past group presentation experience, so I quickly ask Carolyn, Britney and Adina if they want to work together, they agreed and that’s how we formed our group but, we still needed to add one additional person for our group. The second time we meet up in class the other group members had already ask two of our classmates to join our group so Alexia and Wendy came along. I was excited about everyone that’s in our group because, I know that they’re all are capable of getting the assignments and project done on time and they are very respectful. We were assigned by the professor to come up with a group contract, I have never done any group contract before so I was happy with the assignment. We all decide that in order for us to have a positive group experience we would have to follow the contract we’ll of course follow the contract and we came up with things that we all agreed on. We add on the contract that “everyone will keep their feelings in check and keep group members informed of how things are going. No one is expected to give full disclosure of their situation but a general advising that something is going on is expected. Respect each other and don 't be afraid to ask for help. On the second meeting we also came up with a
The Motivation, in this lesson was considerable short the teacher made few questions, but I think that it helped fantastically in setting the mood and pace for the rest of the lesson. I liked that she leaded the students to connect their feelings with those of the main character before she even started the read aloud. If I were to change something in the motivation component, it would be the time frame between her question and the students answer; I would give the student a little more of time to process the question and develop their answer. This would help no only main stream students but also ELL students, to feel more interested in the reading to come.
When I was in the first grade there was a state mandated test that all first graders took to determine what skill level we were at with our reading and writing. I was really excited about this test because, I loved reading and writing so I felt I was good at it. However after the test results came back I was put in a reading and writing recovery program. For obvious reasons I was extremely disappointed, and determined to get back into my regular class. As the year progressed I became increasingly better with reading and writing, by the end of that year I was 2 grade levels above what I was supposed to be at. I even had my “Young Authors” book put into to finals, I got to go to a seminar at MSSU about writing. I like to look back on that memory because it reminds me that I can do anything I put my mind to no matter where I start. As years go by my passion for reading and writing keeps growing. My 8th grade year, however, was probably my worst year yet. I really struggled with motivation to do my work, to go anywhere, to see anyone, I really just wanted to stay in my room by myself all the time. Then I kind of rediscovered my love for reading and, would read all the time, it even got to the point where I would read multiple books a week. In reading I was able to find a whole new life, I was able to become the character and put myself in the story, I had their feelings, I experienced the things they experienced, I had their personalities, I was the story. Being able to read, I
The second reason I agree with group projects is it improves student's performance in school. They would get better grades because it is easier to get through difficult steps or parts. The quality of the work will be much better that working alone. Speaking from experiences, parents would be much happier if their child not only got a better grade but also made some new friends as well.
2. Cooperative learning directed towards focusing on students’ team work while doing their project assignments.
