Should Gum be Allowed at School? You either love or hate the idea of chewing gum at school but have you thought of all of the evidence supporting it? Many different studies show the effects of gum on students, but each show a different result, leaving people’s opinions diverse. Some studies show that chewing gum helps test scores increase while teachers and students say it can be distracting and messy. Some students stick their gum under their tables or desks instead of taking the chance of getting caught while throwing it away. Personally I think that gum should be allowed during testing and other concentration based work.
I believe that students should be able to chew gum during classes. It tastes good, its low in calories, and helps to reduce hunger. By allowing kids to chew gum in class, they won’t be as hungry, therefore they will be able to concentrate more on their schoolwork. When a student focuses hard on their work they tend to put more of an effort into it, which can help to increase their grades.
Should Students Be Allowed to Chew Gum in School? An increasing number of students today are showing more signs of anxiety, stress, and ADHD. A solution to the issue is allowing children to chew gum while in the classroom. Evidence shows that the process of chewing gum increases the blood flow to the brain and heart as well as increases saliva in the mouth, which gives the individual certain advantages. Students should be allowed to chew gum while in the classroom because they demonstrate increased memory and alertness, higher test scores and concentration, as well as decreased stress and anxiety (Pooley, Smith).
