Gun laws have become the hot topic over recent months because permits to carry a concealed weapon are in most states no longer needed. Criminal uprisings and terrorist attacks in the past two decades have had a extreme influence on the people of America. And many have realized that local, state, and federal government is unable to protect the masses when disaster strikes. People are now more aware of the crime in their own communities than in past because of our new technologies. So, many millions of Americans have taken their own security measures. The history of the concealed carry permits starts with Florida adopting a “shall issue” permit process. Shall issue says that if a citizen of the state has a clean criminal record and passes …show more content…
Even when some people see a gun on your hip they instantly look and feel afraid. Walking around a store with a 45 on you and what would happen if somebody just went nuts got made and went crazy and shot up a big store what’s from stopping that. If we don’t require permits people can just go out and buy any old gun and walk around until they snap then somebody or multiple people get hurt. Everyone has a right to defend themselves and everyone has a right to own a gun. The second amendment protects your rights but do really need people to be carrying a glock in there purse. There is no background checks to see if a violent person or psychopath to buy a gun and walk around with it. That’s why I think that permits and proper training should be required to carry a concealed weapon. If people would just open carry it would make things a lot safer too. A state recognizes the right of any resident with a clean criminal background above the age of 21 in most states to carry a concealed handgun without a state issued permit. Currently there are 11 constitutional carry states that do not require a permit for state residents to carry a concealed handgun. Many of these states also issue carry permits. No sate should give a gun to any old person and not require a permit to carry it in you pants. In conclusion I think that this whole thing is just one big bomb waiting to go off. Not many people would agree with my
Gun ownership has increased over the years due to people not feeling safe. Due to this increase of gun owners, many lives have been saved. “Federal law prohibits, with certain exceptions, the possession of a handgun or handgun ammunition by any person under the age of 18. Federal law provides no minimum age for the possession of long guns or long gun ammunition” (Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence). The government is trying to tighten regulation of firearms because of the school shootings, terrorist attacks, and workplace violence incidents that are happening in the United States. Gun control is a huge debate and people on one side want the ability to carry a gun to be abolished Gun control activists also wish to ban all gun purchases because they believe the firearm will make it into the hands of the wrong people. However, the people that are for the conceal carry laws believe that increased gun laws are what is causing the violence because it is harder for law abiding citizens to obtain a gun while those that are committing the crimes are still able to get firearms illegally.
Laws regulating the use of guns in America have been a hot topic for years. Media coverage of mass shootings, acts of terrorism in and outside of the United States, and stories of families being murdered in the night has resulted in a desensitized, or perhaps, overly sensitized nation. People are scared and have centered their idea of safety on one of two main approaches: creating stricter gun laws so less crime occurs, or taking away gun restrictions so everyone can protect themselves against crime. Policies stemming from these vantage points begin by the agenda set by pertinent support and opposition groups, reflecting these approaches.
Each state gets to determine if they will allow concealed weapons. If the state does permit concealed carry then people have to go through a long process before they can receive their concealed weapons permit. A person must first fill out the application, then "State police post the names to a private website for local law enforcement agencies to review and object to if police feel there
For hundreds of years, the United States has debated to what extent the 2nd amendment has really applied to the citizens of the nation. Concealed weapons licenses have almost always been an option for the people to feel safe knowing they are protected, but many think that this is the reason for such crime this world sees, and have tried to take that power from “We the People.” Concealed weapons availability should not be tinkered with, and the 2nd amendment shall stand as it has for the last 224 years.
(Handgunlaw.us). Today, carrying a concealed weapon everyday has become increasingly commonplace in areas all over the
In this paper, I will discuss Pennsylvania Concealed Carry laws, benefits of concealed carry and my views on such, states that Pennsylvania has reciprocity with and the troubles this creates, and the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2014. Concealed Carry is the act of carrying a handgun that is hidden, usually under clothing. Concealed Carry is a controversial topic in today’s age, especially with the gun laws that were dominating politics in 2013 and 2014. There is currently a bill in office to make Concealed Carry laws much better for the carrier. I will write more about this later in the paper.
Since 2007, over 921 American citizens have been killed by concealed carry weapons (VPC: Concealed Carry Killers). Concealed Carry should be illegal in the United States because countries with stricter gun laws have lower homicide rates and concealed carry weapons provide an easy way to commit suicide and other forms of violence. As of right now, the United States Government leaves concealed carry laws up to individual states to decide. Thirty-one states have shall issue laws, which entails that if law-abiding people complete specified requirements then they are eligible to get a concealed carry license (NRA-ILA). Connecticut is the single state with reasonable issue laws. Reasonable issue implies that the state has some discretion over
Let me start with a couple facts to provide some background information on the issue. 40 out of the 50 states have the “right to carry” and 9 states have restricted or denied the right to carry a concealed weapon. The 40 states that have allowed the use of this with a permit have seen a fall in crime rates since this was enacted. After passing the
license is based on only meeting determinate criteria stipulated in the law; the issuing authority has no discretion in the awarding of the permit, and there is no demand on the applicant to present or demonstrate good cause before the permit is issued. The typical law in a shall-issue jurisdiction states typically that a granting officer shall issue a license if the criteria are met. This is a contrast from may-issue jurisdictions where the issuance of permit is based on the discretion of the issuing officer. There are basic requirements needed to qualify for a permit to carry concealed firearm and these may include minimum age, residency, passing a computerized instant background check or a manual background check, handgun demonstration
Concealed Carry Laws are in place to issue concealed carry weapon permits to citizen who want the right to bear arms. Americans who are full believers in the Second Amendment. Some states do not allow citizen to carry concealed weapons, other states have “may-issue” laws leaving the permits to be the responsibility of law enforcement agencies who have the job of approving or denying applications. The law enforcement agencies can investigate an applicant’s criminal record before issuing a permit (“Concealed Carry” 1). Most states have “shall-issue” laws having it so law enforcement agencies issue concealed carry licenses to any person who applies unless they have a specific reason, such as a felony record. In 1998, 31 states established “shall-issue” laws for concealed weapons and by 2010, 6 more states hopped on the bandwagon (“Concealed Carry” 1).
We have all heard of all the tragedies throughout the country regarding guns. According to the President (2013) "We know that we cannot stop every act of violence with guns, but what if we tried to stop even one?" Weapon controls in the U.S. is structured at a state level and each state has their own restrictions on gun control. In different parts of the nation, there is significantly more resistant to firearm laws. For instance, in Texas, the gun law permits individuals to carry handguns on their side like in the cowboy era. In Kansas, firearm owner is not required to have a permit to concealed weapon. In Missouri there is not required that a gun salesman to have a background check or a waiting period. However, there is a requirement to take a gun class, once you pass the class a buyer can purchase a gun then register it with the sheriff department. In California a person can petition the court to remove a firearm from a family member capable of violence.
Currently, the right to conceal carry differs throughout the fifty states. For example, in Arizona, no permit is required to legally carry a concealed firearm, but in the neighboring state of California, a permit is required, according to both state websites. If a resident of Arizona was traveling to California on vacation, and concealed carried their firearm within the state, they would be charged with a crime. This pattern continues throughout the fifty states: there is no singular license. According to the tenth Amendment, powers not specified as belonging to the federal government are reserved to the states. As this bill does not specify a singular nationally regulated license, it is still up to individual states to decide whether concealed
A. This world is a considerably dangerous place. Self defense seems to be the only way we as people can survive situations that require skills and intelligence, concealed carry is one of the ways in which we can defend ourselves. It also has proven to be effective if the person posses the mental stability and a good moral compass as well as good marksmanship. B. To get a carry permit there is a minimum age of 21 and the person getting the person must have a clean background, the background check includes fingerprinting the person and law enforcement will conduct an official background check. Law enforcement will then send the person approval/denial in the mail with your license attached if the person is approved. The license will be good
There is a small percentage of the population that has a concealed weapons permit. In that small percentage everyone is a law abiding citizen, except for a few here and there. They are a set of citizens hard to tell apart in a crowd because of their normality. This meaning that they do not plan on doing harm with their weapon. They respect the fact that having a concealed weapon is serious business. They are willing to go through the tests and classes that one must go through to obtain their permit. They know all the laws, which they must fallow, with that one could safely say that a concealed weapon would be handled safely by this set of people.
If you are not of 21 years then you are not at all eligible in getting Concealed carry license. This is because in United States this particular age is treated as the standard age for using concealed carry. The holder can be higher in age but should not go below 21 years.
