Today in the United States, there are about 88.8 guns per 100 people; that ratio is equivalent to about 270 million guns, which is the highest amount in the world (Gun-control). In today’s era, it has been a hot topic on whether or not America should have stricter gun laws. Gun control is the regulation of selling, owning, and the use of guns (Merrriam- webster). I believe that we should have more regulated gun control laws because I don’t think an American citizen should have the right to just walk into a store and be able to purchase an assault rifle because no one needs to have an assault rifle or a high-end gun if it is just being used for self-defense. The article “Gun Control Isn’t the Answer,” by Nick Gillespie, has many …show more content…
This mass shooting was the nation’s worst mass shooting until this past October when Las Vegas had a mass shooting. President Obama believes that this act was out of terror and an act of hate (CNN). On October 1, 2017, the deadliest mass shooting in modern day history occurred. At the music festival on the Las Vegas Strip killed 58 people and wounded more than 500 others. The gunman, Stephen Paddock, 64 years old, opened fire on about 22 thousand people from a hotel room window. Stephen had no criminal record or any known affiliations with terror groups. Authorities said that “he was the son of a notorious bank robber and his own crime demonstrated some amount of sophisticated planning.” In his hotel room he had 23 guns, one of the guns being an AK-47 type rifle. The leading investigator, Joseph Lombardo, the sheriff of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, stated that “I can’t get into the mind of a psychopath.” Meaning he does not understand why people, just like Stpehen Paddock would do such a crime of evil. The investigators found Paddocks gun purchases. He purchased legally more than two dozen firearms across a period of years. When they went to search his home, they found at least “19 additional firearms, thousands of rounds of ammunition and the
Gun control is a vital necessity to the welfare of our nation. Many people out there are supporting the “anti- gun control cause” with the excuse of “self-defense”. I believe that not everyone will handle a gun for self-defense. The possession of a gun is a sign of power. One of the bigger ambitions that one has is to have power and the easier it is to obtain a gun; the faster a criminal will gain power over an innocent person. When one is in possession of a gun, that person has complete control of their actions and may act upon the weapon however the person may please even if they know that their action will cause harm to defense-less people. There are many deaths caused by guns out there that could
There are gun control laws to try and reduce the number of violent shootings that occur. They are trying to put limits on weapons that Americans can own. The government is trying to take our guns away mainly because of people that are criminally insane. Most of the people who commit crimes don’t even have the weapons legally. If the government takes away the rights of people who are allowed to have firearms in their possession, it will most definitely cause an outrage. Most people believe that the people should be more capable of maintain proper use of the firearms instead of having them all taken away. Taking the firearms from Americans away would cause a lot more problems than there actually are. The people will be upset with the
News is all around us and is readily available to everyone. There are many flaws in the system that hurts the authenticity of the news when you see it. The media is indirectly part of the political system. Most news is either considered liberal or conservative by many.
President obama said at a press conference on October 01, 2015 “The solution to such violence is obvious. It cannot be this easy for somebody who wants to inflict harm on other people to get his or her hands on a gun.” (Simple Minded Gun Control). Gun control is a controversial issue worldwide. The reason why this has attracted so much attention is because not everyone is in favor of gun control and each side brings up excellent points about the issue. Research related to this issue strongly supports the claim that there SHOULD be more gun control laws. Three arguments that prove this position are (1) Incidents like Sandy Hook will be less likely to occur (2) It reduces the high rates of accidental deaths (3) As the years pass by and technology updates the laws should be up to date as well. Members from the National Rifles Association state that No law-abiding American should be forced to face evil with empty hands. I say I agree with President Obama there SHOULD be more gun control laws because it should not be as easy as it is for someone who wants to inflict harm on others to get their hands on a weapon.
“When Governments fear the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny.” (Beck 35). This quote is from one of the greatest men in the history of the United States of America, Thomas Jefferson, the father of the Declaration of Independence, and the third President of the United States. The validity of his statement is not only historical, but as pertinent today as it was when spoken anew. It is learned in schools across the nation, although the importance of the words depends on the teacher, school, and region of the country. During the revolutionary period, King George learned this same concept the hard way, “…an armed populace is a populace that will not be pushed around.”
As a citizen, I am concerned about the future of this country if this type of violence goes on. It not only impacts the current generation but also future generations. That is why I support gun control, while I realize that guns are needed for protection, safety measure are also needed to keep people in

The American Constitution and the Bill of Rights are amazing documents in their wording. Its writers showed astonishing foresight in some ways, and understanding that they could not accurately predict the future in others. These documents grant specific and vague powers to different departments of the Federal Government. The wording allows for changes to be made in its content and interpretation. One example of all these qualities, is the Second Amendment, and its interpretation has caused heated debate in recent years.
It is essential that the United States government implement the following three policies to protect the lives of its citizens: mandate a gun amnesty program, require owners to pass tests and insure their weapons, as well as prevent persons lacking mental capacity from possessing such deadly weapons.
Gun control is one of the few things in today’s society that is a major problem and that is extremely prevalent in the United States. This phenomenon has been a controversy for decades that is still highly debated today. One of the reasons why this topic is so important is because of how dangerous firearms can be towards others or even yourself. Just in the past couple of years there has been multiple incidents involving firearms and death. For example, the shootings at Sandy Hook elementary school and Aurora, Colorado shook the Nation as a whole. In addition, many authors argue whether or not they are for gun control for obvious reasons, but what they do not talk about is religious reasons.
The people of the United States of America are given special rights that are guaranteed in the Constitution - The Supreme Law of the Land. The Second Amendment of the Constitution declares, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of the free state, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." People may have this right, however advocates of gun control believe guns are too risky.
In the United States, there is approximately 88.8 guns per 100 people, which is the highest per capita in the world (ProGun.org). Due to gun violence, 306 people in America die every day (Brady Campaign). Pro gun control activists claim that gun laws are weak which causes a dramatic increase in deaths amongst the U.S. The nation has lifted gun laws in several states over the past two decades, and with the freedom caused a series of deadly shootings (LaFraniere and Palmer). Gun violence is said to be from the loose gun laws emplaced in government. The Second Amendment is a controversial topic within the gun control debate, pro gun control finds a flaw in this amendment, claiming that it is a misconception. The Pro gun candidates argue that the gun rights should be limited to the general public by promoting detailed background checks, and restricting the ease of getting gun permits, therefore resulting in fewer deaths amongst the country. By enforcing gun control in every state, gun violence will be decreased throughout the U.S.
Belarus and Estonia’s laws were individually crafted based on each nation’s Constitution. Their laws were enacted right after their separation and freedom from the former Soviet Union. As the time goes by, each country was able to create their respective gun laws, which are based on their current needs and situation of the country. Each country aimed to create a government that enforces the laws of the land, which will strengthen their sovereignty as independent countries. Estonia, for example, enacted “The Weapons Act” in 2001 that establishes legal procedures in relation to ammunition and hand handling (Riigi Teataja n.p.). This law covers the granting of permission for ammunition and weapon, which are intended for civilian use. According to the law’s general provisions, the weapons of the civilians must only be used for specific purposes, such as engagement in sports, hunting, and for ensuring personal safety.
The fight for strict gun control is a big problem for the honest American since guns are a big need for self defense, criminals will always get their guns illegally, and the right to bear arms is a constitutional right. Americans and people all over the world need some kind of self defense like a gun to show the aggressor where you stand. A woman named Sonya Dowdy was at the post office when a man tried to rob her when she pulled her gun out he fled the scene, if it was not for her having that handgun he would have robbed her and very well possibly hurt her (Currie-McGhee, L.K.). In Sonya’s case she was able to defend herself, but she also could have helped someone else if they were the ones getting robbed, the only thing that can stop bad people is good people. Carrying a firearm can help with the number of woman raped, fewer humans killed, and less neighbourhoods vandalized (The Right to Bear Arms is a Human Right).
58 people dead, 500+ injured. That is the number following the mass shooting in Las Vegas, Nevada. This marked the worst shooting in modern American history, but it was certainly not the last to come. America’s gun culture has spawned from their gun laws, or rather lack of, which has been a polarizing topic in the US for years and has recently been up for debate again following the shooting. With the lack of guns laws being linked to shootings like these, it is clear new gun laws need to be put in place. Along with the lack of gun control being linked to mass shootings, it has also been linked to domestic and gang violence, making America one of the leading nations with gun violence. Furthermore, it is important we analyze these effects of limited gun control as to see just how it significant it is in facilitating violence in the US, on both a global and local scale. Some of the most significant effects of the gun culture in the US are increased domestic violence, gang violence, and mass shootings. It is important to understand how and why these factors were cause by the current gun culture in the US in order to understand the severity of the problem, especially in the local community where Nevada has one of the highest gun rates in the US. Furthermore, by analyzing the effects of the current gun culture, we’ll be able to promote the solution of gun control.
