Mark Ortiz 9.2 Persuasive essay final draft Gun control or people control? Society should be against a gun ban because people should be able to protect themselves. Why should honest, law-abiding citizens lose their rights and freedoms because there are people who violate laws? The failure to obey laws is here to stay. What we have to do is deal with those people on a separate basis, not take away the things they disobey the law with. A gun ban will only keep the 'good guys' from obtaining firearms. Bad guys will always have ways of getting weapons. New gun laws will not do much in stopping them. A gun is an inanimate object. It is a tool, just like a baseball bat, a knife, screwdriver, or hammer. Any of these are as dangerous as a gun; …show more content…

We need to own guns for self-defense or else the deaths of people will increase. Also, there are several recreational activities which require guns to be used. Sporting clays, target shooting, bowling pin shooting, and trap are four commonly activities which require firearms to be utilized. Banning guns would just spoil somebody’s hobby, which could be those recreations. A final reason is that crime is reduced according to a few reports. One in 1998 stated that the percent numbers for crimes decreased to low numbers. Another one talks about a commissioner not stating gun control for the solution to reduce crime. These three reasons eliminate the point of banning
Gun violence kills 33,000 Americans and injures over 80,000 people per year. It is ridiculous how much damage guns have brought to not only us, but the world itself. From Columbine, to Sandy Hook, to the movie theatre to the Oregon Community College shooting, it has just been ridiculous. This is all because we in America believe it is okay for people to carry guns and for them to be used if “needed”. If they were always banned to begin with, we would never have had this problem. The private ownership of handguns should be banned in the United States. Handguns have been proved to be dangerous to society in recent events, they are the deadliest weapon in America, and lastly, guns cost Americans hundreds of extra dollars that could be avoided if they were banned.
Guns have been used throughout history for war, hunting, and protection. Since then, the killing capacity and speed of guns has improved dramatically. Guns have been a part of American culture from its roots. However, as times have changed and guns are no longer a necessity, gun control has become increasingly urgent to prevent unnecessary crime and killings. Guns should be banned for everyone but the law enforcement and military. Guns should be banned to prevent mass shootings and lower crime rates, while being supported by history and the constitution.
In today’s society the majority of the crimes are still being committed by people who have possessed a firearm that has been obtained illegally or without proper permits. That being said there has been a strong push for gun control because of the rise of shootings involving a large group of people such as the Columbine massacre, Virginia Tech shooting and latest Aurora movie theater shooting involving people who have purchased firearms legally. Gun control laws in the United States have been established for many years but to maintain a civilized society with limited crime stronger control laws need to be enforced in which will help reduce crime in our country. Establishing stronger gun control laws will educate
Gun violence in the United States is higher than ever, and criminals with guns will “…kill as many as 1000 people each day” (Alpers&Wilson). Taking this into perspective, it is only right to fight fire with fire or, in this case, use a gun to protect yourself and those around you. Gun control does not only decrease the ability for protection, it also decreases our rights as U.S citizens. The constitution clearly states that we are given the right to bear arms, meaning we may carry fire arms. Even if we have stricter laws for guns, it will not stop killers from shooting innocent people. These men and women causing damage to the lives of numerous individuals do not care if there is a law banning guns, because all they truly want to do is
America is a special case of male violence dictated by circumstance and society. In no other country is individualism as fetishized and reified into the national identity. The subtext of the American Dream is a story of one person pulling themselves up by their bootstraps. The measure of one’s success is calculated by the difference between the start and end points. Ultimately, the necessity of individual accomplishment undercuts cooperation and nonviolent success. Today more than ever we have the ability to self-segregate from society, and become trapped in an echo chamber of fear. The lone gunman phenomenon has very little tie to genetic success. If anything, the lone wolf adopts his dangerous mindset through shutting himself off from
Thesis Statement: Government should impose restriction on purchase and use of guns because it is used widely for illegal purposes all around in U.S.
Guns don't kill people, people kill people. Society looks at guns and thinks “These are horrible weapons that are only used for murder” but, that is not the case. Guns have been used for a very long time and recently they have been a big topic in the media and many people seem to have strong opinions. Gun Control is necessary but, not the way society sees it.
So should we ban guns all together? No, that would cause more harm than good but what we could do is make it harder for people to get guns. At this moment I could go down to a store like Walmart, fill out a couple pieces of paper, cough up forty dollars and in two weeks, may be less, own my very own pistil. That is too easy, what should be done before I’m even allowed to buy gun, is some sort of mental health screening. Something that is going to say “Yes, mentally she is in no danger to herself or to anyone else.” A mental evaluation will lessen the number of people able to gain a gun, keep a gun and help the final verdict of a case.
In brief, I am strong concerned about mass shooting in the U.S so I support to ban gun as soon as possible to protect innocent people away of shooting. However, to get a comprehensive ban gun in the U.S, the Federal Government needs more time and has to have a completely lobbying campaign to change the constitution, especially the second amendment. Only then, the U.S government can stop further violence in future.
With the banning of guns the United States would be going against are the constitution and that would be going against what America is supposed to strive for. There is also no proof that Banning all guns would actually decrease murder counts, reason being is that Luxembourg banned all guns and it still had a 30%
I really had to think long and hard about my opinion about banning guns. I do believe that they are a problem. In this article, it said that there were "11,000-12,000 gun homicide victims and 20,000 gun suicides every year." This number astonished me. I knew guns were a problem, but that many people killed? However, the article also said that "anyone who wanted a gun badly enough would still be able to get one" if guns were banned. I personally agree with this and that is why I believe that guns shouldn't be banned.
Guns are not just used to hurt people, but they help defend people, and most importantly save our lives. If there is someone dangerous that is trying to harm you, what will you do? Even if you do not own a gun, they are the quickest and easiest route to defend yourself. People become shocked when they are scared and lets say, when a burglar breaks into your house and you have no idea what to do. A gun would be a safer option in that situation because you could put yourself at higher risk if you fight them. Learning a fight takes special training, and so does learning how to fire a gun but it takes less time for your body to be coordinated to shoot the gun. The next time you think about banning guns, think about self defence. There is only one reason why people think guns should be banned, and it is not the guns, it's the people because normal people like me or you are doing this. People are killing other people.
I believe it shouldn't be banned because of many reasons. One of the reasons is that without guns the people will not be able to protect themselves and will have to trust the police to take care of them. That reason is important due to the fact that people don't like to put their own safety in someone else's hands. Another valuable reason is that the police will not always be there on time. Like in what happened in texas when someone started shooting at church. If someone over there had a gun then he could help neutralize the shooter before the police would come and the
There have been people who are against guns for almost as long as they have been around. Although guns are necessary and part of the amendment some people think they should be banned. Guns are important because they provide instant protection to people before the police could every reach a crime. They are even important for sports because there is even an Olympic sport that revolves around firearms. Also hunting is increasing in popularity more than any other sport. Guns also play a huge role in our economy and if they were to be banned our economy would be critically damaged. Years ago gun sales had highs and lows but now they have been increasing more than ever. The reason is because the threat of guns being banned or heavily controlled
