On November 6, 1869 the first game of American football was played, players from princeton university and rutgers university met to play the first intercollegiate football game. Back in those days football still resembled rugby more than modern day football, with 20 players to a team. In 1873, representatives from Columbia, Rutgers, Princeton, and Yale Universities met in New York City to form the first intercollegiate football rules for the now popular game.These four teams established the Intercollegiate Football Association (IFA) and set 15 as the number of players allowed on each team.

I feel that college and professional sports share some of the same categories, college is just on a smaller scale than professional. Some of the expenses that both college and professional sports have in common are; travel, salaries, athletic scholarships (college), and facilities just to mention a few. The coaches’ salaries, especially football and basketball head coaches, has become one of the biggest issues in the last few years. These salaries create the largest expense acquired by most athletics programs. They average from $200,000 up. There should be a limitations set by the board as to how much they are paid. The SEC(Southeastern Conference) and the rivalries between different college teams are fun to watch, the rivalry I am going to talk about today is the Auburn and ‘Bama rivalry. It may just be the biggest and longest rivalry in College Football. This rivalry is +100 years old. The rivalry is most likely the craziest rivalry in college sports. From the way, they earned their slogans to what the fans have done to each other.

During the early 20th century college football played a bad role and influence on American culture by diminishing a good college education. I oppose the role that college football had on American culture because it took away from the main purpose of going to college, which was getting a good education for most Americans. Since the US was involved in World War 1, many veterans came back to the US with no jobs. College coaches were exploiting veterans by concentrating on making their team better rather than wanting them to focus on an education, so that they could get a good job in the future.

Many compare the National Football League (NFL) with college football but the two are not extremely similar and should never be compared. Yes, besides a few minor rule changes the NFL and college football are the same game; but there is much more to football then the rules. College football is better than the NFL for a wide variety of reasons. First, there exists more passion in college football all around the sport. Passion cannot be measured in anyway but can be observed and understood by the fans, coaches, and sports community. Many problems going around about college sports and colleges athletes. Most colleges all over the nation allow the college to have sports but then there are some that don't. Being in a sport in college is just like basically having a job. You would need to be dedicated to this and not have much time for anything else. Practices can last anywhere from 4 to 6 hours a day just for one thing. Kind of crazy to think about something like this. Many people just simply don't have the time to do sports in college because they have a real job outside of school. This is different compared to high school because you would have time then and now you don't have much time for anything else at all. There are college athletes basically everywhere you go. Whether they play for universities or juts community colleges, it's all the same thing. The only big difference about this is the price differences. Universities are much more expensive then when playing for a community college so that's why people get scholarships.

The next sport to be held in intercollegiate sports was baseball in 1959; the two teams were Amherst and Williams. As time past there were other sports that were played at an intercollegiate level, but as football was getting bigger a lot of people got injured

Rivalry often causes those involved and others to get hurt from the actions that get provoked.

My prompt is ”tell us a relationship between you and your arch-nemesis” If I had an enemy I would probably have to say it would be another football team. I say this because it relates to me because I love football. Kind of like superman vs his enemy they fight to see who wins and so do we two teams battle to make it to the end to see who wins. You have to be the superman of your team and win the game and help your city your city is your team in this case and if you win you save the day. I think me and my enemies obviously have a bad relationship we have a dislike toward each other because we are from different schools and we want the same things to win. Me and my enemies would not be friends and the only things we would say would be trash talk
