Christianity and psychology are needed and can be engrafted together to provide doctrinal truth as well as worldly truth. There are several types of counseling with several challenges and risks. Integrating psychology and theology were said to be a slow process but there is a need for it. Medication may be needed by a client for mental health issues as well as other health issues and counseling, rather secular or Christian counseling the concern should be for the client’s well-being and restoration.
There are many forms of prayers such as prayers for salvation, prayers for forgiveness of all kind, prayers for strength and healing and they should all be utilized in all areas of counseling. God is the only one who has redemptive powers to a believer unlike the views of those that are not of the household of faith. Nonbelievers think they have nothing to be redeemed from. Sin is the cause of the separation between God and man. If a client has spiritual issues which include physical and mental ailments those issues need to be addressed correctly by the correct person. I would not send a person who is physically ill to a mental health facility, but would address the issue to assess if the physical illness has anything to do with their mental health. There are many theories but the right theory should be utilized for each client, all clients are not suffering from the same issue. Enwistle explores through time to reveal how psychology and Christianity have been both closely studied and intertwined throughout time.
