Houston Food Bank, knocking out hunger, one mouth at a time!
The Houston Food Bank (HFB), their mission, “leading the fight against hunger” their vision is “food access for all”. The Houston food bank is a member of the nations largest non-governmental, domestic hunger relief organization Feeding America. In the fiscal year of 2013-2014, HFB distributed 59 million nutritious meal food and other necessities.” The vision for the future is to expand services to the community to 100,000,000 nutritious meals by 2018” (HFB, 2014).
My sociological experience at the Houston Food Bank, a formal organization ( a group designed for a special purpose and structured for maximum efficiency), I used my time to social network (social relationships that link a person directly to others, and through them and indirectly to more people). I wanted to see and know why these volunteers were here at the HFB. Their stories along were amazing; some were there

He was not alone, I actually was surprised at the amount of people their that were there just to give back, there were families, couples, and individuals that know, by them being there for that short about of time, they were making a difference in so many lives. I liked the social interaction (the way which people respond to one another), I found kinship (the stats of being related to others) we all came for one common goal, to do good, along with giving back. Now because we are a industrial society (a
During my second week of my community health hours, I was placed at River City Food Bank. River City Food Bank’s main goal is to lessen hunger in the Sacramento region by offering healthy food and assistance to vulnerable populations. They do not only provide healthy food but they also provide nutrition education and counseling. In addition, they provide diapers for babies and the older population. They also provide health services for mothers and assist them with contraceptives and other important education for their women daily life. Their mission is to help people from all ages, from homeless to the working poor and families who are struggling.
Thesis Statement: The Houston Food Bank uses the efforts of volunteers as well as donations to support the reduction of hunger in the community.
On Tuesday evening, over fifty of our leaders from Auto, Innovation, and Recovery came to fight hunger and feed hope at the San Antonio Food Bank. Collectively they sorted through 20,330 pounds of food which resulted in 16,264 meals for the city of San Antonio and it's surrounding counties. It was an evening of camaraderie and fun that will never be forgotten.

This semester the agency that I chose to work closely with is the Hays County Food Bank. This is a private nonprofit agency that distributes food to the people who are truly struggling to make ends meet. There is currently no longer a social worker at the food bank, but I did interview my two supervisors. I worked closely with my two supervisors, Jason and Chadwic, while both work for this nonprofit agency and both have a bachelor’s degree, they have very different backgrounds and experiences. The Volunteer Services Coordinator, Jason Kamimoto, achieved his bachelors at a school located in Hawaii. Jason makes sure there is enough volunteers present each day to make every distribution successful. Although this is Jason’s first nonprofit
The Volunteer Center of North Texas (VCNT provides agencies with training programs, background checks for volunteers and employees, and goods donated by area businesses.
I have volunteered our local chart choose around my neighborhood that have partnered up with the Houston food Bank . Once a month on a Saturday the Houston food Bank sends a truck full of food and the church distributes the food to people in need around the neighborhood. I along with others would work behind the scenes and package all the food into a box and prepare for it to be distributed. Volunteering for this cause was super fulfilling. Regardless the hot weather I would wear again I knew that it was going to such a good cause. Just imagining a family who would otherwise struggle to have a meal to eat would now have a whole feast f have a whole feast ready on their table for their families.
It was my first time ever volunteering for something. I believe I was more nervous because I didn’t know exactly what I was going to be doing and I didn’t want anything going wrong my first time. When I showed up to the mobile pantry it was completely different. Everyone volunteering was very friendly and helpful. They all work together as a community which is admirable. I was a stocker at the event. A stocker is one who is in charge of stacking tables with produce and disposes of empty boxes or makes them available to participants. I definitely enjoyed this because it opened my eyes of how many families out there are in need. Sometimes we take for granted what we have while other people wished they had what we do. I believe the Denton Hunger Coalition is a great organization that has many goals they want to accomplish and will continue to grow. One of the weaknesses the organization has is getting more people to come out to the food pantry. Since they are just starting some of the agencies out there maybe forget to promote them which is why many people don’t know about the pantry. Although, one of their strengths is that Denton community comes together as one in order to help others. I believe my volunteer time was of value to the agency because they were able to work faster with an extra pair of hands. I enjoyed volunteering and helping others
On July 23, 2015, I applied for food assistance. As you would be able to find out from the attached application, you would find out that I stated clearly in my application that both of my children were in a 50/50 timesharing arrangement (including 50/50 overnights). See attached application “Frank-07-23-2015,” page 15 and Court order, “Agree Final Judgment July 14 2015.”
Unfortunately not all organizations see the world in a humanitarian point of view, but the handful that do includes The South Texas Food Bank. This organization was founded in 1989 and has been helping the community of Laredo ever since. The South Texas Food Bank allows the unfortunate to receive food and also educate the community about the realities of hunger. It has helped more than ten thousand families throughout the years.
I was taking an online journalism class 362, and an assignment was to pick a non-profit organization and write a biography of its chief executive officer. We were provided a list of various non-profits on web-campus, after reviewing the list I choose Girl Scouts, since I spent many years growing up as a girl scout. Instructor Espin indicated that this would be a very difficult non-profit, to look at a local non-profit. After reviewing the list again I then choose Three Square Food Bank, located in North Las Vegas. Instructor Espin thought this too might be difficult however; I had to get going so I stuck with Three Square.
It gave me the chance to vanquish my fears while also realizing that it is God’s plan for me to help out my community. However, I am not surprised that there are still unanswered questions in my head such as: Why is there such a big hunger problem? Why is this problem not spoken about more often? Is there any other way I can help stop this problem? This service has made me more knowledgeable and aware of my community. In addition, this service project has made me take matters into my own hands. Currently, every time my family goes grocery shopping I make sure they get at least five canned goods for donating. As more of my friends volunteer and more donations come in I think we can end this fight for hunger in southern Louisiana. In addition, I believe that we should all take a step back and be thankful for all that we have because some people don’t have such luxuries. God is omnipresent, He would not want to see His children starving. Finally, I see it as a mission that we volunteers get more people involved to volunteer for the greater
Gleaners is extremely creative when it comes to how they go about serving the communities in which they serve. They help to serve families, kids, and seniors that live in underserved areas of Indiana. They strive to make sure they make food more accessible in communities where there are a lack of many resources to enable the families or seniors to get nutritious food. Gleaners is always responding to the needs of these specific individuals. This food bank that is a member of Feeding America has two programs that specifically aim to provide children with food. One program is the Backsacks; this is where they send food home on the weekends to the at-risk students. They are sent home with enough food for roughly 5 small meals and some snacks to
