Just like books or movies, music has genres. The top two genres according to best selling charts are rap and alternative. Certain instruments and lyrics can affect the genre of the music.
Rap is a genre of music that has great history, songs, instruments, and rappers. The most used instruments in rap are drums and mix/sound boards. Rap music started when slaves would work in the fields and sing “call to answer” songs, where one person would sing part of the song and everyone else would answer in the next line. Nowadays, famous songs for rapping are “Lose Yourself” by Eminem and “Remember The Name” by Fort Minor. Famous rappers include Chris Brown, Wiz Khalifa, and Macklemore. Rap has an interesting history and popular songs.
The alternative
Music has been evolving for hundreds of years, leading to major breakthroughs starting in the late 1950s, early 1960s. There are many different types of music genres, which all have different sounds. We have the blues, folk music, classical, country, hip-hop, pop, reggae, and rock and roll. Rock and roll has continued to grow since the 1950s. Some of the most iconic music comes from the 1980s, especially from the hair-bands.
Musical genre is defined as a category of artistic composition, as in music or literature, characterized by similarities in form, style or subject matter ( the music genre list 2017 ). Today’s music comes in all styles and forms, this makes it difficult to categorize those new and emerging genres. Hip Hop and Grime both have a culture and are both a rap style genre, that share many of the same music and stylistic characteristics. All these similarities does not mean they are the same genre, and here is why.
Rap is a language that is composed of rhyming lyrics that send a message in their verses. Though it “is often intended to confuse and even affront many members of the listening public” (Bradley xxxvi). It has become a voice that can be heard and express opinions. Like many male and female rappers who have used this form of language to get their point across. In where we will compare both genders in viewing their similarities and difference in how they portray rap.
“Rap and hip-hop music as we know it today actually began thousands of years ago in Africa with the “griots”, who were village story tellers who played a simple handmade instrument while they told stories of family and village events” (Nova). Not all of rap came from these villages. Slaves who worked on plantations also used. This is where Americans got the rap idea from. “n addition to the griot tradition, rap is rooted in the pain of Black-American experience which began with slavery. While slaves were working in the fields, they would often sing. Part of the songs they sang were "call and answer" selections. One leader would call out part of the song and the rest of the slaves would answer with the next line” (Nova). Call and answer methods are still used today by modern rappers and especially DJs. An example would be when a DJ yells, “make some noise” and the crowd goes crazy. Rap is all about the quick, elaborate lyrics put into it. “By the 1990s, rap matured from an old-school-style – which was based on relatively simple lyrics – to a new-school-style, which was louder and included more complex lyrics” (Plastic Little Raps). The rap industry started when two DJs, DJ Hollywood and DJ Kool Herc used turntables to remix old records, giving short and uncommon beats. This happened in 1978 and not too shortly after, the Sugar Hill Gang came out with the first rap
My favorite type song is different from my least favorite type song by the beat, the way the words are organized, and the way that the people who sing it. In my favorite type of music, wich is usually rap, has big base drops and is very fast paced. In the slow paced music like poems it is obdviesly slow most of the time and there isn’t any base. I like to lay in my bed listening to rap music and it just soothes me for some reason I really don’t know why,but it just makes me feel better. Other slow paced music like poems being sung just makes me scream speed up,be louder, make some more noise, and vibrate these headphones.
Rap music is derived from Hip Hop culture which is deeply rooted in the African American community. The word, rap, has a Middle English origin. Originally, rap means to beat or strike. Beginning in the 1960s, African Americans gave the word another definition. In the black community, rap meant that someone was conversing about everyday life. However, Africans who were captured against their own will would tell stories while playing instruments way before the idea of rap was conceptualized as it is today. The origin of
There are a large amount of genres and subgenres in the modern music industry. Many musical genres borrow from the same foundation or even borrow from each other. Hip-hop and rock are two popular genres, with hip-hop, now being the most popular music genre in the United States. They are two very distinct genres that have their own styles, elements, and culture that are the foundation of their music. Rock music is a broad genre of music that originated as "rock and roll" in the United States in the early 1950s, and developed into a range of different styles in the 1960s.
At some point in our lives we have heard a song that instantly related to it. That moment our souls speak to our minds telling yourself “I know what you mean” or the deep feeling of “Hey, I know how that feels.” Music is capable of generating millions if not billions of emotions and messages produced by every small sound to the last word in every song. It's been said that music is an art produced by people/groups that may vary in several genre styles. Rap music is a typical genre style that receives the most stereotypical misjudgments up to today in society.
The rap genre originated from some of the most underprivileged areas of New York in the 1970’s. What was once DJ’s talking over a beat they were playing to encourage more activity on the dance floor, turned in to a new genre of music called rap. The majority of earlier rap songs were fun inducing tracks, but in the 1980’s, Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five introduced social consciousness to the genre. They sparked a long lasting impact on rap as it started to evolve rapidly as time went on. The 90’s was home to “gangsta rap,” followed by a softer side of song writing pioneered by the likes of Outkast and Kanye West in the 2000’s. Today, rap music is very diverse and more accepting of different styles than it was before. However, throughout the entire history of rap music, the one thing that has stayed

What is rap music? Rap music is a type of music that is mostly listened to now in 2017. Some people like and don't like rap music, but I'm my opinion I think it is the best genre of music in the whole world. With so many different types of music out there, there is most likely something for everybody to enjoy. Most of the music that I listen to is either rap, hip-hop, rock, or trap. Trap is a more recent style of music that sort of combines lyrics into a beat that hits hard and is fast paced. Trap became really popular about 3 years ago, and is still a very popular genre. Although millions of people listen to music everyday, many people never take notice of how many genres exist throughout the world. Two genres that take popular notice in the music industry, that may be considered as “opposite sides of the coin”, the genres can easily be compared and contrasted, no matter which compare or contrast side is favored. The Broadway genre, which is notably alongside musical theatrics, or simply theatrics in general, is not only for the sophisticated population in it’s essence, but is even favored by adolescents of all ages. Due to the variety of musicals that have been created throughout the past one hundred years, there is a musical for any type of person, no matter how much or how little they favor the Broadway genre. The rap genre, however, can seem extremely different from most genres of music. Nevertheless, if a person finds an area of the rap genre that comes to their own liking, they may come to the realization that not all of it is the same, which can be true. Typically, rap, which stands for “rhythm and poetry”, has a fast paced, recurring beat, with a vocalist rhythmically speaking patterned lyrics throughout a song. In many popular songs today, rap can take up an entire song, or simply be put in a single verse in another vocalist’s performance. Although the rap genre and Broadway genre are slightly similar in terms of the music production, they are, however, significantly different in the way that they are performed, and the reasons why
