Basketball has been a big part of my life which started when I was twelve and wanted to go to the NBA. The problem being, I did not put in the work to do anything to get better. The only thing I did do go to the park about once or twice a month and play. I thought video games would help me because I thought would increase my IQ in basketball... sounds stupid to me now. Anyways, I did not make the team, simply owing to the fact I did not practice. My 8th grade year, when I moved from Jardine to Derby. A big move considering, I went from one of the smallest middle schools in Wichita to a ginormous school. One of the hardest thing for me to cope with not knowing anyone at that school and not being able to try out because, I did not get my physical.
I can remember walking in the door to Mac Williams for the first time and thinking that I was actually grown up but not knowing that I still had a abundant amount of growing up to do. In middle school sixth grade is probably the worst grade to be in from my perspective because you can't play sports until seventh grade. So when seventh grade came around I couldn't have been anymore happy to for the first time try out of an actual sports team. I played football for both my seventh and eighth grade years along with wrestling. I also tried out for the baseball team me eighth grade year because I wanted to get most athletic but was beaten by one vote to Andrew
I asked the coach about my weakness and trained specifically to improve it. I spent additional hours on the court working on my dribbling, shooting skills, asking others for the help of difficult strategy while simultaneously managing my heavy load for legs and elbows, getting stronger. Although I was not chosen for the official team, I never gave up training. I made many new friends and became more confident because of my increasingly proficient skills. I realized that no matter what I do, I should always try my
My 9th grade year was a memory to never forget. 9th grade, i was new to the school just like the rest of the freshmen's i came into the school with, we were not really focused on the education we were more so focused on having fun and seeing different and older people and just experiencing the life of a high schooler. As bad as that may sound it was the truth but that was the year i meant my home boys Block, Tick and Jalen, i knew block and tick for some years already but i meant jalen when i got to high school and instantly we became close like brothers.
I tried to play basketball, and i was really bad at playing because i had played softball all of my life i have never played anything else other than softball. My Dad tried to help me practise basketball but he didn’t know how to play either because he only played baseball. I was not any good at it, and i hated it because it was so hard to play and every time my coach would yell at me i didn’t know why because he never explained to me what i was doing wrong. I did want to give up because i hated it and i could not play at all and our team never won a game. I will try knew things out in the future and i hope that i will succeed in what i want to do because i am a person who sets their mind to things and gets them done even if it takes me my
The year you were a tiny fish in a big pond. I remember freshman year being a complete disaster, there is so many juicy events that took part in making this year a disaster but the one that hits home the most was during the middle of the year.
One of the activities that I took part in that I feel has shaped me as a person, was basketball. I joined the Sea Point High basketball team in the tenth grade, in South Africa. Now basketball was not very popular in South African high schools, as such we lost our coach in my junior year. The choices that were given to the team was to either end the program or to continue without a coach. As team captain I rallied my teammates and we persevered through without a coach; we showed up for intensive training and competed against other schools. At the end of my senior year I was presented with the basketball player of the year; however I feel that award did not necessarily celebrate my skill in the sport, but it acknowledged the determination and
Learning the game of basketball has changed my life for the better. As a little girl, my father believed that I would be an incredible athlete. As soon as I could shoot a basketball, my dad took me to a park to develop my skills. Practicing constantly led me to fall in love with the sport. Basketball became more than just a game, it became a passion. Pursuing this passion has been rewarding, inspiring, and empowering.
However, starting from the age of seven, I have been participating in skills and drills camps and leagues for basketball. I had tried playing soccer, tennis, and softball, however the only sport I truly excelled in was basketball. When fourth grade came along I started playing on my very first basketball team. As the games started, I
When I look back over my life and I think back to the days of my youthful experiences, some of the greatest and most impactful moments of my childhood happen to have occurred while I was playing sports. It isn’t surprising that during my childhood that the most popular sports were football and basketball. More specifically, basketball was extremely popular. With superstar players like Shaquille O’Neal, Scottie Pippen, Alonzo Mourning and Michael Jordan dominating the hardwood night in and night out, it was quite hard not to become mesmerized by these athletes and wanting to go immolate them in the backyard on my pint sized hoop.
Mo’Ne Davis: 13-year-old, right-handed pitcher for the Taney Dragons, a Little League baseball team. Hailing from Philadelphia, the young talent has been the topic of discussion on many sports-related headlines for her phenomenal pitching ability. She is able to throw 70 mph fastballs and strike out many batters, most being young boys around her age. I wonder what it means now “to throw like a girl.”
I was introduced to the game of basketball by my brothers. At first I didn’t like the sport, as football was my passion at the time. Being the youngest sibling however, I always looked up to my brothers, so I wanted to do anything they were doing. I never would’ve guessed the impact basketball would have on my life. I never knew basketball would allow me to travel the world, meet amazing people, and help me grow into the person I am today.
All throughout my childhood, I have played a large part on my basketball team. I was the star player, competing in the large majority of the game. All of this changed junior year when I barely made my varsity basketball team. My coach said I would have to work very hard to obtain playing time, and that really upset me. Until this time, I had relied solely on natural ability to carry me on the court.
Playing basketball is something that changed my life. It made me to start trying to be healthy because I love the game. I played ever since I was in elementary school, and I knew that I was not very good. I was able to play for the 6th grade students vs teacher basketball team. There was a time in my life when I injured myself in middle school and stopped playing for a while. I guess I was good but I didn’t want to try out because I knew I wasn’t that good. Also playing basketball helped me improve the relationships between me and my friends, since we all love basketball we talk about it and playing it together.
I was able to write about my feelings and what I saw and describe every little moment of what was happening. I thought that it was a little difficult because I didn’t know how the other girls were feeling and I wanted to write about their feelings, but I did not know how to do that. What I really like about descriptive writing was being able to use all the different forms of figurative language that I learned throughout my high school career and combine it into one paper. Dialogue, imagery, metaphors, and many other types of figurative language are important to use in a descriptive paper because that is what makes the paper seem so real. Learning how to write a descriptive paper aided me in my development and success as a s student because it helped me be more open to different writing techniques and find my inner self With any type of writing a writer is able to see outside the box.. When I first started high school I did not know about all the different types of writings and throughout high school I learned how become a better writer and I learned how to become a better descriptive
