Education As long as society has been present, there has always been a yearning to learn; likewise, there is always a need for someone to teach. Today cities are filled with hundreds of schools, multiple universities and colleges. Children, as young as five years old are learning the basics; such as reading and writing to prepare them for a life long journey of learning. Modern education has evolved over the years, and countless professionals have spent their lives trying to construct the perfect way to teach. No matter what technique is used, it most likely came from the ancient Romans. Education in Roman society set the primary foundation for today’s modern school system. In this way, ancient Romans establishing various schooling areas, setting a standard for important subjects to be taught, and introducing ideas for successful teaching. The Romans of the antiquity era knew that true learning stemmed from the home. The pater familis, who was head of the household, took pride in teaching his children the cardinal rules to becoming a proper Roman citizen. Even girls of the time learned from their mothers; cooking, sowing and how to take care of the household. In modern day society, much of what a child learned comes from their home. Depending on what part of the world they are in, the child would learn to speak the areas language, and possibly another language.
