In the busy life of an everyday high school or college student, health is pushed to the bottom of the totem pole, in most cases. More times than not, school days are crammed with various activities, there is no time to eat, and homework and jobs cut into sleep time. Most students do not realize how often they neglect their own health. Intelligence is an advantage to succeed in school, but a more important aspect to succeeding in school is the lifestyle of the student. The best lifestyle to have is a healthy one. Students do not realize the impact sleep has on their health. The on-the-go life of a student can be extremely damaging to their health. A student needs to be well rested in order to focus in classes. Lack of sleep can cause a student to be inattentive in the classroom. In some classes, if a student does not pay attention to the lecture or lab, they will fall behind and it could be hard to catch back up. This causes more stress on the student. In this case, the easier path is the healthiest one. When students get enough sleep, it is easier for them to stay on top of their school work. I believe that physical education and health give a unique opportunity to the students to contribute to the overall well-being and student’s development.
