How to Analyze a Web Site
Designing a website may vary from person to person depending on their taste and style. There are millions of websites out there, each one designed differently from another. When you want to analyze a website quickly and simply there are a few fast standards that all websites should follow. These are 10 steps someone can follow to analyze a website in minutes. 1. Don’t make me think, this means when you go to a website you should understand it from the minute you open it up. The website should apply to what you are looking for and you should be able to go through it quickly with no problems. 2. WOW factor, when the website

8. Consistency, is the website the same throughout or does it change drastically as you go through the pages. A website should be consistent from the first page to the last. 9. Browser compatibility, each website allows different rules and codes for the website. Some websites might look really great if your browser is Firefox, but it might look horrible and not legible in internet explorer. If a professional designed the website they should know this and they will use codes that will make the website look great in any browser used. 10. Speed, a website should be built light and fast, if it is done right the website should be able to load in no time. Now a day you should be able to present large images with no problems and have no problems with file size and website loading time.
With practice you can analyze a website in just minutes. These are just a few key points to follow when you are analyzing a website. Of course if someone who has never analyzed one before, it may be a little more difficult and might take some more time to do. We have so many websites now a days, some in which we cannot even figure out or even be able to navigate through without hundreds of pop ups coming up. I think it is important to have a crisp clean website where your visitors do not have to scroll around everywhere trying to find something. It should be
Currency is to view and evaluate when the page was last updated. Lastly, Coverage which is to compare the information with information found on other websites. Does one site provide more information, more references, and more contacts? Also compare the information on the website with information available in print sources such as books, journals, reports, etc.
The Internet provides learners and trainers with the ability to access large amounts of information quickly and easily. Turning this information into a valuable learning resource requires organisation, planning, and careful selection of material. Trainers/Tutors should select websites that are appropriate to the needs of their learners and that support the objectives of the curriculum. Learners should be encouraged to develop a variety of analytical, searching and critical thinking skills and strategies to become confident and competent users of the Internet. Selected websites will need to be revisited regularly, however, to ensure that the content and/or the URL have not changed.
I used Easywhois to look at the last time the website was updated and Way Back Machine to determine what the original website looked like. I also took note of how the design changed over the years. Other tools I used were the links to access the cited sources that were found on the website I evaluated.
For this assignment you are asked to SUMMARIZE or CRITIQUE the various features of each of the ten web sites NOT to simply copy and paste information directly from each site into your submission. Please don't just list a lot of historical or biographical information. You should describe each of the ten sites and discuss the various interactive and web features of each one. You can think of this assignment as if you were writing a review or critique of the 10 different
Hunting for the correct information is not a problem with the University of Alabama in Huntsville’s (UAH) website. While some websites lose their users among clutter or badly named tabs, UAH’s website keeps their visitors interested and on track. Since these visitors are usually families exploring the school, it is important to have an efficient website. Without this efficiency, a prospective student could be deterred from further pursuing the school. As a college website that provides information and services to prospective students, current students, and parents, the University of Alabama in Huntsville’s website successfully contains pleasurable design, vibrant readability, and fluent navigation.
All information is accessed through a basic navigation bar on the top of each web page with the City’s logo constant on the left. In lieu of providing additional information, a small block of information about each highlighted area is given. This limits the accessibility by other businesses within the City.
The aim of this report is to critically analyse the architecture of the website www.flinders.ed.au. The information gathered from the analysis will be used to devise solutions to problems with the website. The technique of examination for the website was to thoroughly
A website is used by different people for different uses. Each website can be evaluated for its usefulness by the general public based on certain criteria as discussed in this article.
The purpose of this evaluation is to analyze the HTML website ‘We the Fans’ and estimate the feasibility and overall functionality of the site. When creating websites, there are many factors which need to be considered to make a site look, function and feel professional. 2. I found it super helpful to look up different examples of the website that you want it to be. It could be from your academic advisor, other classmates in the department and also other scientists. Looking at these examples will help you understand what the website should look like and so on.
Even if a website has good information architecture and content, poor design can take away from the two elements and negatively affect the usability of the site. According to Johnson, successful web design is minimalistic and easily readable with font choices and color palettes (39). The design of Sassy Fox’s website is either extremely busy and misleads users or is minimalistic to a fault. Examples of these extremes are the website’s header and user forms.
A website is an essential tool for a business that is expecting to thrive. An efficient, attractive site is a pace-setter. We design first-rate responsive websites, detailing everything whether it is content, color, typography, IA (Information Architecture), UX/UE or e-commerce
Usability is a term that refers to the level of ease with which users interact with a particular website. Success on the Internet is a combination of factors. The website should be aesthetically distinctive, yet simple meaning, it should be eye-catching and interesting to look at, but it should not be overly busy or conform to some sort of aesthetic principles clearly. Users are distracted by ugly websites. Ugly is a relative term, so the aesthetics must appeal to the intended audience. Website designers and the organizations they represent must know their audiences well.
Usability comes in many forms, and has many ingredients to it. For a start, the layout is the most important. You can have good graphics but bad layout, and your site is ruined. Not thinking further than your own computer screen is a big mistake. If a page does not fit my screen when I open it up it already lost some points, so standardised width is a bonus that all good sites have. Even if you don 't fill up the screen on bigger resolutions, having it usable on all is n good point (like nokia.com or cnn.com). Where you place everything is going to make it a good site or not.
Web sites are just like magazines, newspapers, brochures, menus, or even directions on how to make nitroglycerin from house-hold goods, in that they all have to be put together in such a manner that whoever is reading or browsing over it will be able to clearly distinguish this from that. In this sense, a critique of any particular web site will have justification, while carefully considering also that this is an altogether new medium of information exchange. Now, all of this talk of togetherness is actually a general reference to basic design principles, such as color coordination, if color is used, text size, font choice/ style, art integration, accessibility, and just plain and simple design of the page.
