distance totaling 60 possible targets for those matches. The Internationals, or world championship match, was always double the standard course of fire, or 80 targets. Since many people traveled long distances, 5 preparation sight-in shots were also allowed at most matches. In the case of a tie, shoot-off targets, usually chickens placed at 200 meters, were shot in banks of 5 to determine a winner.
IHMSA competitions were family friendly. Wives and children were encouraged to participate as shooters, spotters, or scorekeepers. Each shooter was permitted one spotter to advise about shot placement, to keep score, coach and to assist with time management. Although it was common at the larger shoots to award separate trophies for subclasses such

I did not own the proper handgun to participate. The rules and classes made it possible to compete with almost any production handgun, but some did not have the inherent characteristics to shoot high scores at long distances. My obscenely competitive nature would prohibit me from tolerating any such limitation. I had decided that my first purchase would be a longer barreled revolver with a good adjustable sight in a big caliber that was capable of knocking down those 50 pound steel rams at 200 meters. That meant that my seven and one-half inch barreled, Ruger Super Blackhawk with its shorter sight radius and limited ability to be effective at 200 meters, would be traded in at a loss for a new Ruger Super Black with a 10 inch barrel. This “silhouette” model revolver would be made of stainless steel and designed for the purpose of shooting targets at long distances. There is a law of diminishing returns associated with trading in guns before they have aged enough to appreciate in value. Needless to say, my quest for the ultimate production long range revolver began a repetitive cycle of losing money to upgrade my equipment, a model that the computer and cell phone industries have adopted to take advantage of our insatiable desire to stay …show more content…
Each has specific characteristics that may affect the accuracy of loaded ammunition. Reloading methods vary from dumping fired cases into a hopper and letting the machine do all the work: manipulating them back into shape, priming, charging with powder, and finally seating and crimping a bullet into place. Automated reloading processes limit what can be done to monitor consistency which ultimately could affect long range accuracy. (Please keep in mind that I am referring to reloading ammunition and not to what ammunition manufacturers are capable of given their new components and their level of technology.) The automated reloading processes are more suited to small pistol cartridges intended for close range, where tiny differences in manufacturing will have little or no effect on the results. Ammunition for silhouette competitions had to be prepared more akin to ammunition used for long range rifle (bench rest) competitions. Everything that could possibly affect accuracy had to be precisely monitored and painstakingly held to the tightest tolerances. After all, the goal of a bench rest rifle shooter is to place all of his bullets into a single hole at inordinate distances. Even the tiniest differences from cartridge to cartridge may potentially move the point of impact, and in silhouette shooting that would be magnified by the relatively short sight radius which could result in missed targets, in other words
As two new co-advisors step up to lead HOSA, Health Occupations Students of America, Lisa Cardillo and Sarah Brink do their best to assist the club. The goal of HOSA is to introduce health careers to students, for the hope to enhance future health care. Students who are interested in the health related fields can benefit from joining the club since HOSA allows them to have an opportunity to shadow health professionals. Being dedicated towards the club and having motivation to lead, Cardillo and Brink use their experiences to help guide students to find their passion. Familiarizing themselves on how HOSA runs is a challenge for the new co-advisors; however, other obstacles that they have to face are planning field trips, and helping students
Although, the Glock is famous, it still needs the proper ammunition. As indicated in Campbell’s article, I also experienced the difference between poor and quality ammunition as well as reloaded. The quality impacts an officer’s confidence and shooting record. Although the situation was saved due to quality ammunition, hand-loads aren’t incompatible. Certain rules need to be adhered to in order to; function properly, save money, have specific tolerances to avoid overpressure and avoid blow ups.
Prohibitions against the sale of cheap handguns originated in the post-Civil War South. In the 1870s and 1880s, small pistols costing as little as 50 or 60 cents were obtainable, and since they could be afforded by blacks and poor whites, these guns posed a significant threat to those who were wealthy or powerful. They were afraid that blacks and poor whites possessing guns would break their established social structure. So consequently, in 1870, Tennessee banned “selling all but ‘the Army and Navy model’ handgun”. Of course this type of gun was the most expensive one, which was beyond the means of most blacks and laboring people. In 1881, Arkansas enacted an almost identical ban on the sale of cheap revolvers. In 1902, South Carolina banned the sale of handguns to all but “sheriffs and their special deputies”. In 1893 and 1907, respectively, Alabama and Texas passed extremely heavy taxes on the sale of such weapons to put handguns out of the reach of the blacks and poor whites.

We will discuss when the club will meet in the future and hand out a permission slip to be taken home. The meeting will take place in room C57 (Mr. Meyer's room) at Shattuck Middle School on Thursday November 8, 2012 from 3:30 to 4:15. Please make sure a ride will be here to pick you up. See you then, and stay on target with your grades. If you cannot stay for the
When the constitution was written the most advanced gun only shot one bolt at a time, and took 30 seconds to reload (Murphy). Now in the 21th century guns have “high-capacity magazines were used in at least 50% of the 62 mass shootings between 1982 and 2012. When high-capacity magazines were used in mass shootings, the death rate rose 63% and the injury rate rose 156%. David H. Chipman...stated that a high-capacity magazine ‘turns a killer into a killing machine.’ Some gang members use high-capacity magazines, such as 30 rounds or even 90 rounds, to compensate for lack of accuracy and maximize the chance to harm” (“Background of the Issue - Gun
We have a commercial order 16309586 that was added to the wrong service region. Please see email below from Joshua with details asking for NH202 to be added to service region MI31. This will be for this one order only. Cam is traveling right now, we need to get this one expedited. Approval below from Brendan.
This allowed the cylinder of the pistol to spin freely while in half cock, enabling the soldier/wielder to easily reload whenever he/she felt necessary. With such numerous advantages over the flintlock pistols , the Colt Revolver essentially revolutionized the way weapons were created and their mechanisms. In the current day, most firearms operate with a magazine which holds the bullets that are to be fired from the weapon. Similarly, in the Colt Revolver, there was a cylinder containing the bullets that were to be shot from the Revolver thereby maximizing the efficiency of weapons.

In this short paper I will go over my thoughts on the article provided for this week’s article summary, Diagnosing Hunting Rifle Accuracy, Part Two, American Gunsmith June 2015, by Wendell Dwight Deaner. I think I’ll just begin by saying that, just as with part one of this article this really help me get a better idea of how I can get my long guns running the way they need to be. I’ve continued to have problems getting some of my small caliber weapons to maintain accuracy, so I’ll be looking to implement some of what I learned to continue to troubleshoot my weapons.
Perfect example would be the 7.62x51mm vs. .308, both cartridges use a .304-.307 projectile. The .308 however, has a moderate charge and has less bore pressure associated with it. Unlike the 7.62x51mm which tend to run on the higher end of the spectrum, in terms of bore pressure. It’s important to identify whether your rifle is designated to .308 vs. 7.62x51mm. It can directly affect the longevity of the barrel, and if not checked it can be a detriment to the overall safety of the shooter. Having the ability to identify specific cartridges is a skillset that is dire. I’m going to cover the importance of being able to identify
Mr. Carlos begins his article by comparing winters he is accustomed to living in the far north part of our country. He explains that due to harsh winters, most shooters will shoot indoors. Surprisingly, he stated that a few people have set up their own indoor ranges. For those without the necessary space (or spousal permission) there are a lot ranges with indoor accommodations. It also serves to help keep shooter's sharp during the cold season. One downside of these ranges is their shunning of full metal jacket ammunition, or ball ammo. So shooters will use a conversion kit to change their rifles into .22 lr shooting weapons. However when this was first done by Colt many years ago, there were accuracy issues. Mr. Carlos further elaborates that due to a larger bore, and rifling twist rate differentials One solution
Since I was about 6 years old I have been exposed to shooting firearms, within my family it wasn't uncommon to have a weekend day set aside to go to the rifle range and shoot our old tin cans from the meals we prepared that week. My experience with shooting firearms ranges from little, basically antique, single shot bolt action 22LR all the way up to high powered hunting rifles, Ar-15’s and AR-10’s. The day after I turned 18 I went out and purchased a tactical Mossberg 500 shotgun. Then shortly after in light of some political discussion about banning AR-15’s I purchased one for my self in hopes if laws did change that I could be grandfathered into whatever the new law may arise. From there my firearm collection has grown incorporating a wide
Made in the 1860s, the rifle could shoot almost double what the musket could. The rifle could be reloaded twice as fast. But there still was a problem the bullet would wigel because the bullet would hit the side of the barle.
