Question 1: Impact of engineering on society and the environment
The project proposed for the final evaluation is a Graduate Residence building for the University of Ottawa. The location of the residence is 149 Chapel Street, which is located in the middle of Downtown Ottawa close to a lot of amenities and major infrastructures. Also there is a lot of construction going on in the area. The building will be welcoming a lot of graduate students and will facilitate the transport and the living for the students. Since the student population of University of Ottawa keeps increasing, this new graduate building will be very useful. The project will have different effects on the society and the environment.
The residences to be constructed will be conforming to the environmental regulations of the City. A permit for construction was delivered by the City of Ottawa. Also the residences are owned and managed by the University of Ottawa that ensures the safety of students and also conforms to the City 's weekly operational activities such as waste collection. Student residences are a necessary component to the University because they provide students with safe and convenient accommodation while enabling a shared living environment, which promotes the exchange of core values and academic ideas. The building will be constructed according to the National Building Code of Canada (NBCC).
The residences are built in a way that will also help to reduce energy
