Once viewed as taboo, it is not uncommon in today's society to see people with tattoos. From symbolic to decorative, tattoos have infiltrated the culture and have become normalized amongst commoners. Tattoos are no longer how people remember as a kid where they stick on and last for a while, and there is a lot of thought and value that go into it yet alone the pain aspect. With that being said why would one want to get a tattoo just to be told it doesn't meet the requirement of the work field and they most cover it up? When people get new cars and decorate them or even anything that holds value to them, they embrace and boost it so that others can see what they take such pride in and embrace it as well; tattoos are the same way. In recent times, the debate has been whether tattoos are appropriate for the workplace and if so, to what extent. I feel as if tattoos should never hold any negative connotation to any desired workplace as they do not deter away from the tools and performance skills one has to offer to a company. When asking employers about how they feel about the appearance of tattoos, many will reply with adjectives such as unprofessional, unethical, and improper but what they fail to realize is that professionalism lies in the treatment of people, not the appearance of one's skin.
