Being an indie video game developer is tough work as there's a lot that goes into the development of a video game. Unlike bigger AAA studios, indie developers only have themselves or a small team to accomplish this great amount of work and with that, comes a large amount of time having to be invested into the games creation but how does an indie developer know or gain enough knowledge to form a prediction of whether that game in development will be a success or not? The answer is simply data. Just like larger studios, indie studios or developers can use data to collect valuable feedback from their players/audiences; even if the developer/studio doesn't have any preexisting game titles of their own. The only thing required is simply a game …show more content…
However the generation of publicity can be put into the Alpha stage if the studio/developer feels confident in doing so. An example of this being successful is from the studio 'Dynamic Pixels', who shared both their Alpha and Beta builds with popular 'influencers' on YouTube, such as 'Jacksepticeye' and 'Markiplier'. This decision has allowed their game "Hello Neighbor" to become a wildly poplar title while gathering plenty of feedback and data, despite that it's yet to even be officially released! An example of how many views each "Hello Neighbor" video generates can be found in the below linked playlist from the YouTuber, 'Jacksepticeye' who himself has over 16 million subscribers. "Hello Neighbor" YouTube playlist by Jacksepticeye. As demonstrated by the above, the usage of beta-builds can generate large sums of publicity which in turn provides valuable feedback from the general public which can be turned into critical data about your game and its current development. As these comments/data is provided by the general public, this is usually provided by the members of the public who have become increasingly interested in your game and therefore your potential future consumers and once this data is collected and analysed
Video games are an ever-growing franchise that is constantly undergoing change. Ever since the dawn of video games, new consoles, games, developers, and teams have come together, fallen apart, triumphed, and failed. What is it that has allowed some to thrive where others failed? Several different factors have changed and influenced the world of gaming, including the history that is continuously being written, the people who have built the games behind the scenes, and, of course, the actual video games themselves. Numerous video games have been more successful than others, but identifying what components set the successful apart from the unsuccessful is something definitely worth observing.
Though there have been so many factors to determine the success of a game especially in sports, there are only few that provide real life experience. With the growing gaming market and the increased number of gamers who are aware of the world market in games and sports, the requirements to keep up a competitive game system is essential to the business of gaming (Ruggill & McAllister, 2011).
Coding is what puts all the gaming elements together to work as one. Games are written based on C programming to generate the codes for the polygons to make the environment with the shadows and textures. After the coding is complete, the testing phase begins by selecting a group of people interested in the game to find bugs or problems in the games. The alpha version is the first version released to fix the major flaws and the beta version is tested until the developers release the final version. The marketing phase begins with the publisher spending money to advertise for games for profit. Some methods include a
Creating programs require different steps for the program to run smoothly. When providing a program to the community it at some point require an evaluation in order to determinate the effectiveness of the services provided by the agency. It is relevant to receive feedback from the participants in order to be able to understand what works and what does not work from the program, and therefore be able to make the required changes. There can be times where the hypothesis of the program is wrong, which leads to an unsuccessful program. If the program that we have developed is successful, we would have proof on how effective it is and we can publish the results for the public to see. It is important to let the participants from the program know
The results will be analyzed by our developers, and a statistical summary will be produced after meeting with key individuals. The statistical summary will be used to evaluate the problem at hand and provide a solution as well as alternative solutions.
I was drawn into video game design because I love video games and technology. Playing video games increased my interest in video game design. I already know having an interest in video games and knowledge about computers helps while becoming a video game designer. I hope to gain knowledge about their role in creating a video game, what they do daily, and their income.
Thesis Statement: Though video games have a controversial and sometimes negative reputation, when used correctly they can benefit a person’s emotional wellbeing, motor skills, and potentially aid their health through video game exercising.
BUILD stores all information of clients, program reports, annual reports, and findings to measure program effectiveness. BUILD uses this information and evaluate it to measure it effectiveness, by research it.
It is important to realize that games were created so the user could enjoy his or her leisure time, not have their personal data collected and watched for corporate gain. This has the potential to raise real concern about how much and what kind of data is being collected. According to the online article “Data Mining: What is Data Mining?” written by Bill Palace which suggests, “…data mining (sometimes called data or knowledge discovery) is the process of analyzing data from different perspectives and summarizing it into useful information - information that can be used to increase revenue, cuts costs, or both” (Palace, “Data Mining”). With this in mind, caution should be showed in how data from games is collected and how it

Adcom games should allocate all costs from the Product Development Support Center, as well as the project team labor, to the games that are developed. I believe that all costs from the Product Development Support Center (PDSC) should be allocated in order to properly match expenses with revenues. Costs should be allocated on the basis of lines of code written. For example, 16% of all code written pertained to “Secret Agent”. Because 16% of work product went towards this game, 16% of all costs incurred by the PDSC should be allocated to this game as well. Labor costs pertaining to this game should be added to the allocated PDSC
It seems to be a popular trend for big developers to branch off and make small and unique indie games. From Ubisoft's Child of Light to Insomniac's Song of the Deep these games are immersive, breathtaking, intimate and, mostly, well received. Most recently is Ready at Dawn's foray into indie development: Deformers.
Herman et all (2002) points out that history of video games begins from 1971 year, when Nutting association released 1500 machines with Spacewar video game. At the beginning it was too difficult to control the game process and playing machines had huge dimensions. But by the time with new technologies they become more compact and easier to play. According to the information given by Herman et all (2002), the period between the years of 1978-1981 is called ‘golden age’ of video game industry. In this period the arcade games ‘Football’ and ‘Space Invaders’ were released. All previously known sale records were broken by these two games with nearly equal wages. In this time interval great breakthroughs in the field of graphics were achieved,
