Dogs in Entertainment
Dogs in entertainment are highly trained performers who are eager to please. Canines currently entertaining audiences worldwide include television and movie actors, models, kennel club show dogs, athletes, live stunt performers, and more. Have you seen one lately? Canine actors and models appear in commercials, print ads, catalogs, movies, television shows, music videos, live shows, and probably a lot of amateur YouTube videos. There are hundreds of these opportunities for dogs every year. Of course, it takes a highly motivated owner to launch and manage a successful canine career in “show biz.” Just as in the world of human show biz, some dogs do become famous. (But most are just playing a lot of small parts.) For example, a spunky Parson Russell Terrier named

Many dog actors were once in animal shelters. After a long run on the show and many magazine covers later, Moose published his autobiography My Life as a Dog (which a human probably helped him with). Keep your eyes peeled for canine actors as you watch your favorite shows. Some dogs perform in highly entertaining live shows that tour the country or are the subject of television specials and special appearances. For example, the traveling production called Superdogs is “one of North America’s premier live entertainment events, enthralling audiences of all ages with a stunning, riveting canine spectacle unlike any other performance seen before.” Stunt Dog Productions puts on the “world’s largest and original stunt dog show.” Sea World hosts a show called Pets Rule in which dogs (plus cats, birds, and pigs) put on a highenergy show that fills the audience with awe and laughter. Some dogs also compete in kennel club dog shows. These dogs must meet specific pure breed standards. Their handlers take great pride in showing their purebred dogs to judges who ultimately decide how closely they match the breed standards. Dogs first compete to win the title of Champion in
Dogs are not just cute and fuzzy friends. Since it has been thousands of years that dogs have been trained to do things for humans, we can now count on dogs to do very specific jobs. For example, the article from the U.S. Department of Justice says, “Service animals are defined as dogs that are
Greyhound racing is one of the popular action sports, the sport of racing greyhounds. It started in 1974 in Western Australia, controlled by the Canning Greyhound Racing Association. In 1981, the Western Australian Greyhound Racing Authority, a government appointed committee, took over the control of the sport (Racing and Wagering Western Australia, 2002). In the race, dogs chase after an artificial hare on the track which leads them to the finish line, the first to arrive is the winner of the race. In many countries, greyhound racing is purely conducted for enjoyment, thus the dogs are almost invariably pets and are therefore generally well treated. However, in other countries including the US, UK and Australia, legal
Imagine a life with a best friend that never gets mad at people and never talks back. A famous saying you hear dad to day is a dog is the only thing on the earth that loves you more than they love themselves. This is a pretty ideal situation for most people. Studies show that a dog can be more than just a pet. A dog can be a best friend, a listener, and a healer. Animals have influenced humans through out our evolution they have become domestic and we have become reliable on our house pets for many reasons. Dogs assist many different groups of people. They play a major role in child development, heal the sick, and benefit the elderly.
In ancient Rome, Roman warriors marched into battle alongside fierce war dogs. Some hunting dogs of Ancient Egypt that were greatly prized got mummified alongside their owners. Before cutlery and napkins had come into the world, people would use them to wipe their greasy hands on after an evening meal, and afterward, when they went to bed, on a cold winter night, the owners would make the dogs lie on their feet to keep them warm. The Kings of Europe, to avoid poisoning, wouldn't eat until the dog ate some of the food on their plate. On Lewis and Clark's exploration of the new world, their trusty companion, a big black dog named Seaman, saved their lives by chasing away a buffalo that was trying to stampede their camp. In modern times, dogs are used in the armed forces to sniff out bombs on a war field, sniff out missing people from the rubble of a natural disaster, and there are also police dogs used to sniff out drugs, food, and even people. They are also used for companionship in families today. For paralyzed people, such as a blind person, is led by a service dog. In nursing homes, some dogs have been proven to be effective when comforting the sick or elderly. What other jobs do dogs have in our
Throughout history dogs have been prevalent, the upper class of Egyptians took pride in their Papillion’s, Paul was believed to have a Maltese when he was stuck on the Island of Malta, and they have been used in many wars. The issue being faced now is puppy mills. Many believe that all dog breeders are bad but that is not completely true. There are dog facilities that mistreat their animals and it is horrifying to witness, yet there are others choosing to breed and raise the best quality dogs in the best possible conditions. Not all dog facilities are outside in the dirt in the winter, some
Dogs are used for a lot more things than just pets. They can be used for a variety of different things. For example, they can be used to help people with different kinds of disabilities. These types of dogs are called service dogs and to be a service dog they have to fall under this definition written by the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) “ ... any dog that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability....”. People have service dogs for all types of reasons.
When owning a dog, studies show that more people that own dogs have less doctor visits and miss less days at work. It also motivates people to be more active in society and become social. People with a lot of energy tend to buy or adopt a dog. There are so many dogs that have just as important jobs as humans. Many people adopt dogs for their disabilities. Some common jobs for dogs include guide dogs, therapy dogs, war dogs, and search and rescue. A couple less common jobs are herding, acting dogs, hunting, sled, and dogs who are trained to detect seizures. Dogs can not only find bombs and weapons but also bedbugs said one book (Hare page 116)
The professional shepherd also stated that it was challenging for the reality TV series' celebrities, as well, who had to act like the dogs' masters to get their canine colleague onside. He further added that, “They had to sound like a farmer from Suffolk in many of my celebrities' cases. “They had to make lots of compromises to make it a success. They had to shape themselves to the dog, thinking like a
Well, the viewers of the reality show see not one or two dogs on stage, but more. Each animal appears to have their own tricks followed up by a group performance with all the dogs. It’s quite spectacular and definitely unique when it all comes together on stage. When this act comes on stage, the reality show happily goes to the
For dogs to have a championship or Ch designation that is added as a prefix to their name, they must qualify for a championship. In the past, title are earned from conformation shows, where dogs are judged based on their breed, and how they conform to established breed types and individual breed standards. These days, however, dogs are considered champions if they attain a high degree of perfection in other dogs sports and performance championships.
Cute, fun, loving, cuddly, outgoing; these are only a few words to describe the animals that we have come to know and love as a part of our families. Dogs have been man’s best friend for hundreds of years and were the first animal to be domesticated because they are great as companions, highly intelligent, and were found to be very useful in human’s everyday lives. Even though they made excellent house pets they were highly successful at working side by side humans as well. They are not limited to being just best friends, but they have been found to be protectors and saviors as well, to their owners, others people and even other dogs too. One type of working dogs in
Once the dogs prove to be ready, they are placed in the pit against larger dogs to test their willingness or determination to face collapse and future defeat. If the dogs pass the test, they are deemed ready to fight. When this happens, they are brought into the arenas after being washed, to make sure they have nothing on their coats that will harm the other dogs. A pitch usually consisting of plywood walls, about twenty feet in diameter with carpet, is where the fight will take place. Inside of the pit there will be an indication of lines, usually marked by masking tape or paint. The animals are brougt to the pitch by their owners. Inside the arena there will be one referee and the two owners of the dogs. On command, the dogs will be released, they smash together like a couple of mac trucks. They look like a wrestling match with teeth, biting one another, trying not to let go of their opponet. The matches can last up to forty-five minutes and end when one dog can no longer fight back because of exhaustion or death.
Although I wasn’t sure exactly what I was getting into, I was drawn to the opportunity to work with dogs. After a few sessions working with my first dog, Gail, we had bonded. She came to favor me above all others. When I saw how excited she became to greet me, I knew I was making a difference in her life.
Pets can have real jobs like people. Dogs-rescuers save lives together with people. For instance, when people get in an appalling avalanche, courageous dogs-rescuers help to find them. Also, some breeds of dogs, e.g. sheep dog, badger-dog, labrador, spaniel, and so on, serve at customs. More than that, they can find illegal things like drugs, dangerous weapons, or explosive stuff. What’s more, they help to control order and assist in avoiding terrible acts of terrorism. Some people literally can't live without pets. For example, blind people need guide-dogs to move around their homes. The connection between such masters and their pets becomes really strong and truly close, and a person gets pet-dependent in this case. Enthusiastic owners devote their lives to pets. They try to make the best for them and like to take part in exhibitions. Pet's clothes, food, houses, brushes take on special value for
Dog personality based people are more of a social breed. These types on average are more likely to be men. This is not much of a surprise since dogs are usually referred to as “man’s best friend.” Their personalities center on being conservative and extroverted (Reader’s Digest). As such, they hold to tradition and are an outgoing, overtly expressive person. Within social gatherings, they move around a lot usually seeking attention or people to talk to. Their sense of humor tends to be drawn to slapstick humor. Slapstick is a type of broad physical comedy involving boisterous, violent activities which may exceed the boundaries of common sense. The home life of a dog person usually resides within rural areas, and are most often married with a family.
