This essay will discuss how my use of online information has grown from being merely a consumer, to now being able to critically evaluate online sources for credibility and suitability for use in academic work. My role in producing an online informational resource has been enhanced by both the readings, and the experience gained in the collaborative process involved in working as a team. This is my first experience at online collaboration and I will examine the challenges encountered using this medium of communication, how I dealt with them, the lessons learned, and what I would do differently during future collaborative work.

The threaded discussion simulates traditional classroom discussion allowing students to post comments to a particular topic and respond to the comments of others. A threaded discussion, or thread, takes place asynchronously with each thread beginning with a topic identified by the instructor. The students in the class facilitate the actual discussion. Each student logs in and posts to the thread during class (or as part of a homework assignment). All responses are displayed according to the order of submission below the original topic. The goal is to involve the students in facilitating their own group dialogue through the use of technology. This project introduces word processing, proper writing mechanics, internet search functions and appropriate etiquette in online forums.

It is effective for building fluency, since students can focus on their speaking. Additionally, they help to keep students focused on instruction. Customer relations management consists of the processes a company uses to track and organize its contacts with customers and it improves services offered to customers and uses customer contact information for targeted marketing(Bidgoli). Salesforce.com was founded in 1999 by former Oracle executive Marc Benioff and former Left Coast Software software developers Parker Harris, Dave Moellenhoff, and Frank Dominguez. The company was a $4 million dollar startup based out of a San Fransisco apartment. They offered free trials to friends in exchange for customer feedback and suggestions. After a month of feedback the founders hired an official sales person and their assignment was to convert the 5 trial customers into paying customers. Through the years, they have made changes to their selling techniques but their products have always been focused on the customer. Now in 2015 Salesforce is the #1 CRM company with over 100,000 users, and it’s a public traded company with a market capitalization of $50 billion(Nasdaq). The rapid success of Salesforce is the result of their mission to stay innovated and relevant.

The VLE teacher technology tool selected is Elluminate Live. This technology is easy to use, flexible and a very effective tool for online learning. In utilizing synchronous learning, the student will feel less isolated and more motivated to participate. There will be contact with both the facilitator and other students. Elluminate Live is used in real-time and functions within a collaborative environment supported through demonstration. Linked data is the process of utilizing and sharing individual data on the World Wide Web. It is more specific than just uploading a large file to the Internet to be shared. Linking data gives very specific information about all of the components of a document, not just a complete file. By utilizing this process researchers can collect data more easily about similar topics without having to read large documents of information. By linking this information in computer readable data format, this data can be easily searched for on the web. This data becomes easily searchable on the web and can be found and used with current library information. This machine-readable information can be read by computers and does not have to rely upon the human eye to read and understand the data. This process will limit human error and produce information quicker and better than ever.
